He just is an average player now. Lost his burst of pace to get past players, could see that today a few times. His passing etc is all still good but his touch is as unpredictable as always and so he isn't that great in tight spaces.

He really struggled today. Almost all his passes went awry and totally misjudged the pace of the game.

I thought his first touch was great today, a few times he brought the ball down effortlessly after we lumped it forward, but was swarmed immediately by at least 3 liverpool players. His pace and dribbling is no longer there, so inevitably he gets dispossessed.

Think I've already said it before, but does anyone think he may not get to 250? I mean he most likely will, but the guy is so far off the pace that I really think he might not score again.

He can't dribble, his passing ability is awful, he loses every 50/50.. Everything is gone. Including his determination. When is the last time he has gotten really angry? Remember the Rooney who used to lose the ball and everyone at OT would roll their eyes because they knew Rooney was going to aggressively hunt down his opponent and hack him to the ground? When's the last time we've seen that tenacity?

The guy has to leave, I don't care if he's one goal away from the all time top scorer, being sentimental is one of the main reasons why football clubs can fall behind, just get rid.

Actually, Rooney created our goal. I did not see Mata doing anything at all.

How so? He put in the cross before the cross that we subsequently scored from. That doesn't vindicate an otherwise woeful performance. Mata has shown time and again how useful he can be at unlocking resolute defences. Rooney hasn't done as much in years. Does this really stating yet again?

he'll do it against the lower teams, cup games etc. even coming on at half time he still looks slow against better sides

I actually like Rooney, but I was completely against him coming on. I loved the positivity in bringing on another attacker, but Rooney was not the right choice. They were pressing us into oblivion and a player who has an inconsistent touch and can't dribble is not a wise choice.

Can't even claim that.

Martial wasn't working, Rooney didn't play wel but brought a piece of good play that resulted in us getting an equaliser
Martial was involved in two good chances too but the finish was lacking from his teammate. And he had half the possession losses conpared to brave wayne.

Pretty much agree with all previous posters criticising Rooney. He is done like dinner, and has been for far too long now.

To think, in recent years, that his 5/100 "good" actions have been enough to look past his other 95/100 absolutely shite actions.

Tainting his own personal legacy as well. It's pretty comical how he can barely control the ball at times.

I'm all for him breaking the record but since the record is for all competitions anyway he should never ever get subbed on again whilst we're chasing a goal, definitely not against top opposition, even less so in the Premier League.

If he stays beyond January, he can have a last go at the record in the EFL cup or the FA cup… if we're leading and the match is all but over.

Even though he was involved in the equaliser today, he's generally finished at the top level.

It's almost getting a bit sad now how poor he is. It wasn't even so much that his ability has dwindled, his first touch has always been fairly erratic anyway but one thing I can't forgive is what seemed like the lack of drive or hunger he had on the pitch. It's almost as if the fire he had in his belly has now completely gone, even a Rooney in poor form could inspire a team just by his sheer hunger to drive the team forward.

Had his routine (few) moment of brilliance per game, but then too many occasions being the dead end of our play with sloppy play. Can't say he's bad today, but not really worth a good one neither

Don't wanna criticise him for today, just a general comment but it's pretty sad nowadays that anytime he gets the ball for us, I just urge him to play a simple pass as possible to the closest teammate.

Main man, to bit part player in the space of a few months, and no one has really noticed, well played Jose.

Yeah, I'm happy how he's been handled. From a massive problem to managing game time for a fringe player. Not even much drama in the press.

The lack of effort today bothered me, though. Coming on as a sub and making starting players close the keeper down on his behalf. If he's not gonna put a shift in then he's no longer even useful as a fringe player.

We need to do something about him quick.. Terrible player.. The sooner we ship him to China the better.. Rashford should get his minutes from now on..

Seems to me he can't learn how to press well. In the past when he's full of energy he used to ball chasing, but not efficient. Now when in his older age where efficiency is the name of the game, he found lacking when it comes to pressing. I think it's too late to learn for him.

Sabotage!!!
That's what I thought as soon as I saw him coming in. He should never come into games against top oposition, or premier league games where the game is still in the balance.

Thought he was pretty good to be honest and certainly had a huge part to play in us equalizing, brought some urgency and desire in there (though Martial was pretty decent while he was on as well, just a bit quiet). His attempt at a dribble made me laugh though. He doesn't know how.
Shouldn't be getting the criticism he's getting but it's redcafe so I expect no less.

Spot on. Toys everywhere on here when United don't win.

The best manager in the world still rates him. Even if you disagree with Mourinho on the finer points of football (that's what this forum is about), to call Rooney terrible just makes you seem clueless.

Who did martial set up? I saw mhiki miss after Herrera through ball and pogba miss after mhiki through ball?

Then he gets involved in the equaliser, funny that, what was mou thinking

Rates him but doesn't have a place for him in the starting 11 anymore. Sure thing. Mourinho is managing Rooney's uselessness. He can't be trusted to start games anymore and Rashford would've been the much better option coming off the bench. His first touch has gone to shit, he can't dribble or run past players anymore and he can't shoot for shit. Even his corners can't get past the first man. Yes he was involved in the build-up that led to the goal but he offered nothing else. Got dispossessed more than once in key areas, and I feel he was really out there doing his best. He's finished

Indeed... there is no middle ground......apparently......

He's not finished and he's not useless. He's not a top class player anymore, but he is still Mourinho's first option to come off the bench. I probably would have preferred Rashford as well, but that doesn't mean I'm blind to the fact that Rooney is still a good player. People discredit themselves by stating otherwise.

Yet he came on instead of rashford, brought the ball down in a tight spot with good control, beat his man and put in a good ball with his wrong foot which lead to the equaliser.
Offered nothing else apart from a major part in us getting a point? What on earth is that, he clearly didn't have a great game but the moaning on here when he contributed to the game more than most our attacking players did more than mata did is a bit OTT

To be fair, there's only hatred and then sober realism. Apart form maybe one or two posters, there's nobody who thinks he's amazing. 'The middle ground', as you put it, is being able to judge Rooney without agenda.

Yeah I never understand people who see players and think, if they aren't good enough to be automatic starters anymore, then suddenly they have no role and should be sold. He can still be a very important squad player. Who gives a feck how much money he makes. He's earned it over his career.

What's most annoying is you try to highlight that and you get labelled a "fan boy" he has a part to play this season, rightly from the bench but until rashford matures and a replacement for Roo is brought in he is worth keeping around otherwise lingard will end up getting more game time

But he's trusted to come on when we're one nil down in a big game.

Not true. And his corners went to the first man just like Miki's which is obviously Jose's tactics.
