He's absolutely shite these days. No other way to cut it. I'm fairly confident that Mou won't put up with this if it's affecting performances, and I've no doubt Zlatan will have a word in private if it's affecting his game too.

Plenty of people have questioned if he has a contract clause (to play % of seasonal games) so that's not a new suggestion.

There is no such clause.
Why would any club in the World, be forced into a situation to play a player who is playing badly.
The manager must have the ability to remove any player from the first team, as he sees fit.
It's ludicrous.

The truth is that managers rate him highly. So highly in fact, that they make him Captain.

Cant say that i am Rooney basher but i just cant understand how the feck as professional player you can have first touch that bad,its like concrete wall or something, his passing is another thing...

The question, "what are you really angry about?" comes to mind.

This.

But I'm starting to seriously belive that Moyes gave him a clause in his last contract, guaranteeing him a startingplace. There are no other logical reasons that both LvG and Jose kept and keeps playing him. Madness..
I think he has that clause too. Remember, Moyes isn't the brightest person - he was also desperate to have an ally in the dressing room. He bent over for Rooney. I don't think we can blame Ed for this too much as Moyes was there to advise him about the player - Ed knows nothing about how to judge if a player is finished or not - that would have been Moyes' responsibility.

I had hopes that Jose would be strict with him. I still have some hope left but he just shouldn't start any games for us

I just hope that he gets a red card as it looks like it is the only way he will ever be out of the starting 11. Frustrating to see him start for United and not be able to have a first touch.

if players like Buttner supposedly had guaranteed appearance numbers then it will be rife in football

If he plays as a number 10 all season, we wont qualify for the CL, it's as simple as that. It'd be such a detriment to the side and it would most likely mean Pogba plays deeper.

I would defend him insofar as he is playing in a position wherein he is surrounded by defenders and thus it would be expected that he is going to lose possession or a through ball wont hit its precise target. But having said that he was giving too many passes away and then couldn't even retain the ball enough. If you look at Silva or even Mata, they would retain the ball better and also give better passes. Now they wouldn't be perfect, but they would be much better. Ibra for example who likewise is surrounded by defenders controlled the ball better at times and offloaded it better. Ok, hes bigger, but still Rooney can drop deeper at times and even then he was relinquishing possession very cheaply. Like against Iceland in the Euros, his confidence looks shot. I would be a bit concerned although we have the players at our disposal to deal with it (Mata and Mykitarian). But having said that Rooney could go out next week and be completely different. He is a bit of an enigma in that way.

People keep mentioning about Rooney's backroom influence, however, I sincerely think it's no longer a case. He holds his close ties with media alright, but so does Mourinho and Manchester United. In fact, Rooneys inclusion in the side does the adverse and potentially can create a locker room disturbances, especially, with the likes of Mhicky, Mata even Rashford who would be questioning Mou's authority, which is far worse than having few bitter articles out there written by Rooney's propagandists.

Someone needs to make a compilation of his involvements from this game. It was so bad that I actually want to watch it again. I think Mourinho will ease him out of the team eventually. It would create too much of a shitstorm in the media to just drop him straight away.

And post it on joses Instagram

He's fecking awful. He quite literally brings nothing to the team. I hope Mourinho has the balls to drop him.

Well at least under Mourinho, he won't be able to suddenly revert/change into a '20 goal a season striker' or randomly metamorphosise into a deeper midfield playmaker ala Scholes at whim, when things aren't going well for him. That too with Pogba and Ibra (Rashford) occupying those roles. It's swim or sink in the second striker/#10 position for him and it looks like there is only going to be one possible outcome for him.

Just release him on free transfer or something....
Please note more of this dog shit. I don't care is he's a legend. Bobby Charlton shouldn't play either and he's a bigger legend.

Rooney's relationship with the media is hugely important though. Usually in situations like this, you'd have the press writing articles on-end highlighting the poor performances or asking if it's time to drop the player, but you'll hear nary a peep about it for Rooney. Their treatment of him takes away a lot of the media spotlight associated with situations like this.

But that's the point - he's too inconsistent to have in such an important position. He's already underperformed there in seasons past, so persisting with this has to be he strangest thing the club has done.

Inconsistency doesn't win leagues. So the club needs to decide if they want, to win or if they want to please Rooney.

That's true. But United need to bite the bullet and accept any bad headlines the club might get. What the press says pales in comparison to having an underperforming player that seems undroppable. The club needs to win - it's very important for all sorts of reasons of course, not least, to keep the sponsorship money coming in.

Would rather have Mata in the 10 position any day. Don't want to get into an argument about who is better. But on Rooney's off days, he effectively plays for the opposition. At least Mata is t this sloppy when he isn't playing well.
We now have Mkhitaryan. This nonsense has got to stop.

If today is anything to go by we'll get a bucket load of goals from around the edge of the box due to Martial and Zlatan. He needs to start taking those chances if he's to stay in the team, goals will keep a lot of people quiet in the short term. There was a great example today when Zlatan set him up on the edge of the box and he took the worst touch imaginable.

He's in real trouble now.

Our squad is looking really fecking good right now and it just makes Rooney stand out even more for how utterly shit he is. Some of his first touches today were embarrassing.

Rooney's touch and passing today was abysmal, not good enough for the captain of the club.

So frustrating today, all our promising attacking moves broke down by his poor touch and passing.

He keeps letting his team-mates down in the pitch, would it really affect the team off the pitch if he gets dropped?

Noticed that Mourinho expressed some of his frustration on the touchline during the first half after Rooney lost the ball, so I believe it's only a matter of time for him to be dropped, unless he improves drastically.

There's no other explanation. Mourinho does not care about stepping on anyone's toes. He shuns Bastian fecking Shweinsteiger to the reserves because he sees weakness in him. He doubles subs off Mata for being too short. I just would not be able to fathom why he keeps a player that can't trap a ball at this stage. Wayne's deal obviously included some sort of marketing/image appearance clause. Quite possibly moyes' biggest mistake.

Come on. This was first competitive match. We all know Rooney takes some time to get into the groove

*** I ll get my coat ***

People have covered practically every base of how bad he was today, a #10 needs to be able to play on the half turn, but his complete lack of first touch and poor mobility means that he plays the role with his back to goal and just shoves the ball back where it came from, if he manages to control it, which kills any attacks momentum.

It also has to be said that he couldn't be paired with a worse #9 to compound his problems. Ibra drops deep a lot of the time and is used to playing in a spacious front 3 with a midfield 3 of pace behind him. Rooney can't operate in tight areas so struggles even more, we saw the other day that he looked marginally better when Rashford was played as the #9 with him as he stays higher up and is always looking to get in behind...

No place for him when Pogba arrives.

If there is a clause saying he has to start, no problem. Let him kick off then sub him :)
