Our season is dependent on how long it will take Jose to realise he's rubbish.

What are we, as viewing fans, missing that three successive managers are seeing?

At least I have some faith that Mourinho won't put up with it. But so far, no indications.

He's back to his absolute shiteness again today. What's even more worrying is, Jose didn't subbed him off until 86th minute despite Rooney stinking out the place.

His first touch was woeful, his passing was erratic at best, his link up was more than enough to kill off any good attacking move!

It's absolutely baffling how terrible his first touch is. Almost everything seems to break down when we try to go through him.

He's the reason after all the great business we have made in the summer, AND winning the Community shield, I still feel a bit down. Knowing he just won't be dropped.

Quite weird the way you'll see comments on Zlatan being slow and old in his thread. Yet, Rooney literally plods around the pitch, bit overweight (for a footballer) and generally looks shattered after 60 minutes.

Zlatan has a first touch and doesn't give the ball away at least 5 times a game.

When Rooney takes his first touch, he's not playing his best. His touches have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems to the team. They're bringing slow play. They're bringing lost possession. They're the first touch of rapists. Some, I assume are forward passes, but the majority are not. He's earning 300000 a week and laughing at us folks. His agent must think we're so stupid.

Diabolical performance. He really is a media darling. Hardly any pundit or commentator picks upon his poor form which has been stretching for 2-3 years now.

You'd be hard pushed to find any attacker in the top flight with a worse first touch. On the rare occasions that he does manage to get the ball under control he seems to take an age to make a decision and, even then, doesn't even have the execution to get it right. I'll be amazed if Mourinho perseveres with him for the entire season - he's a total liability.

Did you read his post properly? Your responce makes it look like he was having a go.

Biggest mystery in football for me.

We need to sell him before it's too late.
I have a feeling there's a clause in his contract that guarantees him play time - I just cannot fathom anything else

Wouldn't get a fcukin bean for him.

Yes I read the post correctly, was just stating people that say negative things about Zlatan and his age forget that he does the basics extremely well.

I don't really care about selling him for a fee... I'd even eat part of his contract... as no team that could actually afford those wages (outside of China or the MLS ) would want him.

But he really should be the first one out the door.

fecking shit. But I'm used to this now.

I have a feeling he's on borrowed time as both Moyes and Van Gaal wouldn't have subbed him today. Jose sent a message to Rooney he isn't undroppable.

It's scary how the public and media perception of Rooney is so much different to proper football fans opinions on him... It's like living in North Korea where the rest of the world is seeing different !
When will the media like Sky and press boys reflect fan opinion? Which is what they should be doing..

I think most fans want to see Rooney finally "taught a lesson" and shown who's boss by our manager for how badly he treated the club during the transfer request saga.. They want to see Rooney suffer and ruthlessly treated

Pogba should be the new face of the club and build the team around him

It's just so frustrating how much of a better team we could be if we just had the balls to bench him.

Is it too ridiculous to think the moneymen insist Rooney plays whenever he's fit? He's the face of the club, after all.

I'm sure people will think this is a ludicrous suggestion but he's stunk out the place for the last two years and yet still starts ahead of palpably superior players.
Not really. But now they have Pogba, so there should be no more excuses for Rooney.

Someone needs to make a compilation of his involvements from this game. It was so bad that I actually want to watch it again. I think Mourinho will ease him out of the team eventually. It would create too much of a shitstorm in the media to just drop him straight away.

He just doesn't contribute anything anymore unless it's against a really average side and today he was constantly miscontrolling the ball and giving it away in dangerous positions.

What happens if we break the clause?
Think that's a job for Football Leaks..... Without seeing the contract, we don't know. We would probably have to pay him some money I suppose?

Played badly today but to say he was the worse on pitch to me is wrong. But, he should be better than this, he is the captain. Trying too hard at times and looking confused when the ball at his feet. Below average performance.

I've not criticized Rooney a lot because I think he gets enough (and sometimes way too much) stick on here. But today was probably the worst I've ever seen him..
It's unbelievable that a player can go from being that good to ...this.

I say it again, Rooney's not even premier league level player, he's total piece of shit, Hope Mourinho will asses this problem asap, didn't look good today as he let him play until the 86th minute, whereas he should have been subbed of after 30 minutes...

Hmmmm, I seem to remember a poster who said he would age incredibly badly and decline quickly about four years ago....... Who was that? Oh yea.

Sparky for DOF!

In all seriousness, same old shit from wazza

I wonder if Jose has the balls to drop him if he keeps this up. One thing is his abysmal technique, but what really grinds my gears is what a pussy he has become

Now, in the end it lead to a goal, but there was a moment before our second where he gets the ball right outside the box with loads of space, but instead of trying to create something himself, he just shuffles it wide to Valencia. For me, that was the perfect example of the current Rooney. If there is a safe solution or a way to get rid of the ball, he is going to take it. I guess that's why Van Gaal loved him

No all managers probably knew Rooney was shit, they aren't dumb or blind but Rooney's situation is a bit of a tricky one. Due to his influence in the locker room and the media it's extremely hard to just simply get rid of him and think things are going to go smoothly.

Basically it's a choice between dropping Rooney and perfecting a nice game plan w/o constant mess up during build ups with his horrendous plays but at the risk of losing the locker room + media wrath upon you which will make it hard for any manager to work under.

Playing Rooney is basically a sacrifice managers(new ones) have to make in order to avoid repercussions and chains of events which will lead to their eventual fall.

That's why it was very important to have managers do well in the past few years with us, win trophies and have that freedom to not have their decisions questioned every time, especially if things go wrong. I'm pretty confident that if Mou delivers this year he'll have freed himself from many shackles and would find it easier to deal with Rooney by dropping him.

We'd have had to be mad to give such clause to him when he was 29 while signing his last contract. Then again we had Moyes in charge at the time and he was willing to do anything to get Rooney to sign that 6-year deal.

It's just so frustrating how much of a better team we could be if we just had the balls to bench him.

I dont think there is option like benching him,you play him or you get him far far away from the club.

This.

But I'm starting to seriously belive that Moyes gave him a clause in his last contract, guaranteeing him a startingplace. There are no other logical reasons that both LvG and Jose kept and keeps playing him. Madness..
