I wouldn't be surprised if the club is somehow related to the new media politics towards Rooney. He was shit last season too, maybe even worse in the first half, but was protected by the club. Maybe it's curtains for him in the summer. His presence on the bench is too expensive to make any sense. His form will probalby get worse if he doesn't play regularly. Already Fergie knew that Rooney had to play in order to hit form.

Yeah the person called dumb on a regular basis by people somehow is masterminding and manipulating the club hierachy and the media behind the scenes.

I think United can solve the right back problem by playing Wayne Rooney there. Can save the money buying Colemen.
Valencia can take on the defender but his crossing is poor. Not many of them find the strikers.
Rooney still has gas in his tank and is robust enough to play on the right back position.
His crossing is as good as Dalvey Blind. With their crosses, United will have more chances created.

How about in goals, Scholes thinks so at least!

First of all I have never been the biggest fan of Wayne Rooney nor I am a big fan of the boring dross that they call international football and absolutely dread the international breaks .
However some of the poisonous , Vila abuse aimed at Rooney is just unacceptable we should remember that he is England's all time leading scorer and as such deserves some respect , he doesn't pick the England team ( nor the man united team ) so why on earth would he refuse to play for either when asked to do so .
At his peak ( and yes I agree that was 3/4 years ago ) he was a beast of a player , aggressive , quick, determined and full of goals , so where did it all go wrong ?

in my opinion he has lost his identity by being constantly played out of position mainly because up to this season United have had 6 or 7 years of mediocrity in the middle of the park we made such a hash of replacing Becks , Keane , Scholes , that a series of managers had little choice but to try and turn Rooney into a pseudo midfield player a position that absolutel oes not suit him .

When you consider that this was after SAF kept playing him wide left eg in the Europen cup final v Barca we Lined up with the worlds best right winger Ronny at CF and one of the worlds best CF's In Rooney playing out wide ! ) .He was played wide left for many games even though he ever wanted to play there and didn't have the skillset required for that position .

Then came the Moyes period when the manager was that desperate to keep hold of the 1 proven class player we had that he gave him the most ridiculous contract ever , should Rooney have turned it down ? Would you ?, he continued to be used as the go to player to fill gaps in midfield , out wide etc .

Then came flat face ( groan ! ) who made it clear that Rooney was the 1st man on his team sheet , declaring that Rooney was going go be his goals scorer before playing him constantly in midfield !

The past few years we have played him in all sorts of positions ,most of which are not right for hm , to a degree he has become a victim of his own versatility , he is past his best absolutely , he should not be allowed anywhere near the midfield of either United or England especially as at last ( after many years in UNITED's case ) both teams have viable alternatives .

I agree he's past his best , but don't expect him to retire from England or United voluntarily that is up to the managers , the inevitable is in front of us but instead of looking for every opportunity to stick the knife in , let's try and remember all the great things he did for both teams and show him the respect he deserves

That can't be true. Lampard gets a guaranteed salary of 6m and he gets less than Gerrard does. That alone comes upto roughly 120k for a midfielder.

It's true.

The number you cited is USD. Rooney's 300k per week is GBP.

Think my per week number is off though. I literally just copied and pasted a post I made months ago so conversion rates are off.

That comes later. Until he fecks off I'm quite happy to stick the knife in.

And also let's stop pretending he's done us some kind of favor sticking around all these years, or that we owe him anything. He's been extraordinarily well (many would reckon too well) compensated for his efforts.

Just found out he's also been dropped by England. Feck me:lol:
From untouchable captain for both club and country to bench player in less than 6 months.

Really good press conference though from him and Southgate. The latter with a line for Redcafe

Southgate: "I don't like that there's an element of satisfaction for people that he (Rooney) is not in the team."

You find it strange that people are satisfied an under performing, overpaid has-been is finally being treated fairly and like every other player? Weird.

His self serving, arrogant attitude has earned the animosity towards him.

If he was a bit more self aware and genuinely humble, he'd have a lot more sympathy.

The club is capable of pulling strings in the media to protect United players, especially the captain. It was important to protect Rooney when he was starting for United, both for commercial and footballing reasons. Now there is little point to defend him, the club is backing Mou's decision to phase him out.

Although they both spoke quite well I couldn't help feel sorry for Rooney, he looked the epitome of deflated. It's all unravelling pretty fast for him (in his eyes at least)

Even a broken clock is right, twice a day.

Rooney is in poor for at the moment, since the Watford game and was utter crap for the first 6 months of last season. People take hating players too far, for now im happy he is out of favour because he has been pish. If he comes on as a sub and has an impact, like i would day to any player, he deserves to start.

Until then we wait. Dont hate the player, hate the game.

Feel a bit bad for him but on the otherhand he's been treated as untouchable for so long while more deserving players have been stuck on the bench so it's fair enough really. If he had just been treated like any other player before now there'd be no issue.

To be honest, the writing was on the wall from Jose's first press conference.

He must absolutely hate the Jose right now.
Convinced he's done at this club.
It just needed one manager to summon the courage to drop him. Now Jose has, it's not really that big of a decision for Southgate.
I can't see a way back for him for both club and country. He's not physically capable.

It happens to all players past 30. Rooney, while only 30, has the body of a 40 year old where his speed of thought also looks to have deminished. No one can deny hes been great for us but Moyes should have got rid as soon as he walked in. Instead he bowed to him and gave him the freedom to do as he wanted, it wasnt great for the team and it certainly wasnt great for Rooney.

I'm convinced that this is the case.

I think Jose and the club briefed the media following the defeat at Watford that Rooney was no longer untouchable, maybe even that he'll be going next Summer, and then the media changed tone on Rooney and actually started reporting the truth.

I think @SteveJ nailed the reason for the sudden burial from the media, they went boots in after the last international break where Rooney dictated when he would retire from England followed by Allardyce acting like his star struck bitch in the post match interview. Suddenly United's problem was England's and so they started to tell the truth about how far he's declined.

His self serving, arrogant attitude has earned the animosity towards him.

If he was a bit more self aware and genuinely humble, he'd have a lot more sympathy.

Exactly, I have no idea where this sudden pity party is coming from, him and his media buddies dug his grave.

I am not going to take pleasure in his demise, but this is just great for us going forward. It couldn't come sooner, sad as it may be.

Yeah Jose really "screwed over" Rooney. Had he not been dropped by Mou, Southgate wouldn't have dared nor dreamed of benching Wayne.

Now things are easier, Jose has shown and proven Rooney SHOULD be benched and since that hurdle and step has been taken, there is less pressure in dropping Rooney.

Had Rooney been in our last 3 games starting line up, even with poor performances he still would have picked up in the line up for England(probably until his retirement).

Only Rooney being dropped from England would make it to the main headline on the homepage of the BBC. Any other player is dropped and no one gives a shit. This is and has been the biggest issue all along; he's not treated like any other player. He's been given a free ride for years because of who he is, and not what he brings to the team. It has to stop. The whole situation is mental. I can't wait until he's gone so we can return to being Manchester United, instead of Wayne Rooney FC.

Anyone who thinks Rooney was better than Shearer doesnt remember those Blackburn years for big Al (oh how i hated him)

Not even close....

Shearer was the one player I was desperate for us to get.
Newcastle broke the World Record (£15M).
We offered over £18M!!!
He turned us down twice.

I remember discussing this with my friend in 1996, who was a CFC fan and he said that if Shearer goes to MUFC, the league title is almost guaranteed to go to MUFC for the next 4 years. THAT'S HOW GOOD SHEARER WAS!!!

At this time, Shearer had just spent 3 seasons with Blackburn.
His league goal tally, per season? 31, 34, 31 << these numbers are real and not made up

So, if a striker existed today, who had scored 30+ league goals, for the last 3 seasons in a row, what would price tag be?
Well, Kane has been discussed in terms of costing in the region of £50M+, but more likely £70M. Kane has scored 3, 21, 25 league goals in his last 3 seasons.
It is not unreasonable to think that Shearer, with his record breaking goal tallies and in his prime, would cost in the region of £120M+, in todays money.

Rooney, as an 18 year old, would probably cost in the region of £70M+.

Where Rooney is better, is in his build up play and creativity. Rooney was also a more dynamic, faster player.
I think the better comparable player to Shearer, would be RvN.

So, there's my comparison: Rooney vs Shearer.

I think he was extremely humble and respectful even today and he handled it really well and could have easily avoided the media as he knew he's dropped. He's nowhere as bad and arrogant as you guys make him out to be really.

Yeah he could have avoided the media, but surprisingly he chose to talk to them. Hmm can't imagine why. It's not like Rooney to talk to the media when he's not getting his own way.

just read he's been dropped

surprised Southgate has shown more balls than Allardyce

Wish Rooney had retired after the Euros and had a reality check about his form the last few seasons

was reading about Coleen defending him on Twitter - he deserves better than the abuse he's taking

hopefully he has a decent end to his United career and can leave with some dignity
