99% of match goers want him to play?! Thats almost as funny as comparing him to Beckham on the wing ffs.
In fairness the majority of the matchgoers I have witnessed expressing their opinion want him to play.

I know loads of ST holders and all want him dropped, but it's by the by. Even if we accepted the plainly false idea that 99% at OT want him to play, who gives a shit? Are fans at the stadium meant to be more knowledgeable or something?

I've been to OT plenty of times and invariably the stuff I overhear is absolute feckwittery.

This thread will get to 500 pages if he plays 50 games this season. It's mental

"I've known for a few years. I have played there a few times throughout my career and I can play that position.

"I have played and watched Ryan Giggs play that role for years and I always knew that one day that is where I would play, so I have tried to learn and watch what he did.

"It is still early days, but hopefully, if I keep playing there, I can develop and get better."
...

Mou better not take too long to drop him. He is not a midfielder, he is a 9 or 10, maybe a 9 1/2, but never a midfielder. Let him swim or sink on that basis.

I wish he'd bench him for just 1 match so we could see how different the team plays

Maybe when he is injured we will see how the team plays without him. But then we will need to see how Mou sets up the team without him. He needs to set us up properly, in a 4-3-3 with a mid of Pogba, Herrera and one more, with Pogba the most advanced. Or we need 4-2-3-1 with Mata or Miki at number 10.

We will know more about what Gaz thinks on this issue on MNF but I thought this line was strange.
‘Mourinho has to decide whether Rooney brings value to this Manchester United team’

It also sums up why he is in the team. The whole first station pass thing, Pogba would be first station pass.

That's quite possible. You see Sterling and the other City player already shaping to close Pogba down. I'd argue that they're too far away and Pogba would already have a picture in his mind of what he's supposed to do by the time he gets the ball, but instructions are instructions.

Sitting in the middle of the stretford end singing rooney chants, hypocrisy at its finest.

Haha, people are damned if they do and damned if they don't. If someone goes to a match and partakes in Rooney chants but ultimately wants him gone from the lineup, they're a hypocrite. If they don't chant, they're not getting behind the player.

I'd fancy the chances of a simple pass to Pogba making it over another floater making it over to the left without getting intercepted. And there is no way Rooney would have been instructed not to play that pass, Pogba gets that ball and can drive at the defence with options for a through ball to either side. Truth is Rooney doesn't have the vision to play as a true 10, he must have watched a YouTube video of Scholes crossfield passes as that's all he knows to do.

Instead of s simple pass to Pogba and City are in trouble, he wants to go long. De Bruyne cuts that pass out, City reload and we go one goal down less than a minute later.

Its these moments and decisions that I simply cannot take. An Ozil/Silva/De Bruyne wouldn't make this mistake.

Typical Rooney. He just always prefer the ball out wide vs a pass through the middle.

He wasn't that bad either in the derby, but he really has no place in the team.

I don't think there's anything wrong with Rooney attempting that pass. City defend very narrow and compact, and win the ball back pretty quickly. I mean, look how narrow Sterling is. Spreading the play would have given Lingard a one vs one against Sagna. Rooney was just too slow to execute the pass.

Anyone who still thinks starting Rooney has a overall more positive impact on our performances and that we need his presence in big games needs their head examined. Tactically he puts us on the back foot and it's like starting with 10 men.

We will struggle in all the big games if he continues to start.

Agreed. I do not blame Rooney. I blame Mourinho, he is the one to blame. Its going to be a terrible season if Rooney is not dropped.

I will ask Sir Alex Ferguson, David moyes, Louis Van Gaal, Roy Hodgson, Sam Allardyce and Jose Mourinho to examine their heads as Raees from redcafe thinks their footballing IQ is in question by starting Rooney.

SAF was here three years ago..

Anyway, if/when Rooney (finally) gets dropped, will you also tell them that raees from redcafe was right? ;)

All of these managers were wrong to start Rooney with the exception of SAF maybe in his final year where Rooney was still playing ok with RVP but I remember many wanting Kagawa to start ahead of Rooney.

Just looking at Totti of Roma today. An absolute legend who is on a decline did not start today but was brought off the bench and got a goal and an assist that was vital to the team's victory.

Wayne does not have to and should not even start just because of his name and imo, Totti is a bigger legend than Wayne Rooney will ever be. There will be days when he will have his usefulness but is it not this day!

Rooney isn't exactly as declined as Totti, there is a decade in it after all.

It needs a big manager to do it, I think that's why Ferguson tried to push him out when he retired. Moyes didn't have the balls and neither apparently did Van Gaal, as for Allardyce he already admitted he's not a big enough manager to tell Rooney where to play.

Jose needs to find his spine and do what's best for the team, and soon. Unfortunately I think his experience at Chelsea is making him wary, maybe he's hoping that if he leaves Rooney in long enough either his teammates will lose faith in him or he'll pick up an injury and have a reason to be left out.

Please do as I have been right about this for years and will continue to be right about it. Hopefully they might start to take notice and please don't bring Fergie into it because he was onto Rooney before any of us.

Not to mention the last time Fergie started Rooney was nearly 3 1/2 years ago against Chelsea before he dropped him out of the squad completely for his last two games in charge.

If you remove Fergie and Mourinho ( when Fergie was still here Rooney was still good and Mourinho hasn't been in the job long enough to be accurately assessed) there that list is an illustrious one indeed.

My point was that playing Rooney or wanting him to start isn't as ridiculous a decision that warrants checking your head. We both agree Mourinho is a credible manager. When we have a better alternative to Rooney, he will drop him. Until then it's useless to cry over #10's that don't play for us and compare them to Rooney.

He was suggesting him as one of the possible changes before half time yesterday too. He seems to be slowly moving away from defending to the hilt and talk of silent domination.

If these many pages are filled up when he's actually been one of our better players, I shudder to think what will happen when he actually plays poorly and has no contribution.

Are you Wayne Rooney too? How many you lot are here?

So we wait till then? At this rate he only has 2 years before he's immobile on the pitch.

No I just wanted to point out that obviously Rooney is in better shape than Totti, just by the fact he is a lot younger. Absolutely nothing to do with playing not playing blah de blah, I don't want to get involved in that discussion again for point out he has been one of our better players so far this season and then someone shouts something back about not being the best number ten in the world or something.

I don't think you're getting the point majority are making; however how Wayne Rooney is playing, the team will look and play better without him in the starting XI. Simples.
