However, the club's wage bill is also 18.9% higher. That figure includes the arrivals of Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini last season, plus new deals for Nani and Adnan Januzaj.
Interestingly, Wayne Rooney also signed his new contract during the period concerned, but it is not thought the striker's deal resulted in any material wage rise.
Instead, United will provide commercial personnel and expertise to assist in maximising the revenue from his personal image rights.

Hmm....

So the 300k per week was just media bollocks?

The £300k p/w was never true.
Good to see that video, as others have said, hopefully he can keep it up. I'd love Rooney to have a phenomenal World Cup.

Like a lazy student cramming for his exams at the last minute...

:lol::lol:

I think he got a bit bulky top half after his last lay off and he looks to have lost the bulk a little, which is good. How he plays all depends on how the team lines up. As a no.9 I have faith in him as a .10, not so much.

It's a given like the sun rising and setting over the course of a day that Rooney will be terrible after an injury layoff so he'll probably be terrible for the first few games then get sent off in the last group game/first knockout game after the frustration of being crap in the first few games gets to him.

Not an entirely serious post.

He'll have friendly games to build up his match fitness. Indeed, he was never that badly injured. He could've played for United towards the end of the season if he'd really had to, but because they were essentially dead rubber games, Giggs did him a favour by making sure the minor 'niggle' wouldn't be aggravated.

More training footage from Portugal:

I must say, these do remind me of the training Montage from Rocky IV somewhat. Dub 'Heart's on Fire' by John Cafferty over the top of them, and there's basically no difference.

People who hate Rooney just use the £300k thing to beat Rooney up with. Rooney whether some people like it or not brings alot not only on the field but off the field as well, being a very marketable player but of course none of us know what each player is on at United its only speculation.

I think he needs to have a decent world cup or his stock will decrease slightly

I hope he plays brilliantly this World Cup, England really do need him to shine if they want to get far.

Is it just me or is he looking leaner?

He is, he bulked up a bit too much. Good to see him working hard. I like the fact he is working on sprint speed over short distances and his work when tightly marked. Two things that he isn't that good at.

Great video. Looking sharp. As much as people say about Rooney, in our toughest season where you want your big characters to stand up, he was arguably our only one, and really dragged us through games, at times. Hope he has a great World Cup and comes back firing for us next season.

"Dragged us through games". We came 7th, thus, by your reasoning if it were not for him, we might not have made the top 10. The rest of our players must truly be pathetic despite the fact they were the reigning prem champs.
For every person who thinks Rooney is under-rated there is a person over-rates him.
He performs well with other good players and that's that he is not good enough to carry a team.
When has he ever had a good world cup. Every 4 years without fail the media build him up just for us to watch him fail. Not being English I have no problem with the latter but the former gets tiresome.
Prediction: He will fail again then people will finally stop over-rating him.
Problem is they will move to the next sap. Look out Barkley.

What games did he drag us through?

Wait there, let me just watch every game this season and i'll get back to you. At the end of the day, whether you like it or not, more often than not, Rooney has been our best player on the pitch this season. Yes, he had some poor performances nearing the last few games (who didn't), however, over the course of the season, Rooney has been our best outfield player. If you don't agree, your either blind or too stubborn to accept it.

Just look at the contrast: RVP, rising like a salmony phoenix from the ashes, deft chest control and a perfect volley into the net; Wayne 'Wages' Rooney...running around Chipping Sodbury after a tricycle with a pie tied to the spokes, in a forlorn effort to get in rotund shape for the FIFA World Cup™ in association with FIFA™ and also FIFA™. It is therefore obvious who should be the new captain: Ashley Young Robert van Perise.

All i'm saying is, in a crappy season, Rooney was arguably the only player who kept a his level of his performance from last season, especially at the start to mid season.

19 goals and 15 assists is not bad, and is better than the likes of Silva and Ozil, who both had respectable seasons.

And let's not forget how he didn't let Nani play more :(

Not only that but he visibly looked like he cared. RVP was embarrassing at times this year and people are only changing their opinion on that because Van Gaal is coming and making him captain.

The vast majority were in favour of him being fecked off this summer and were appalled at his performances this year. Where have they all gone!?

It's a fact that he's gone into his two previous World Cups off the back of serious injury: metatarsal in 2006 (Fergie says he should never have gone), and ankle in 2010.

Let's see what what he can do without injury.

Someone takes themselves a tad too seriously...

That, my friend, is sarcasm
To be fair. I can't tell what is and what isn't sarcasm on this thread at times. Anything seems plausible with the shit people have said.

By embarassing writing I actually meant it was difficult to understand/poorly written but perhaps designed as such in order to mock others.

anyone notice the sea of criticism for Rooney and amount of people saying they'd like him shipped off is rising again?

he's just had an injury...

I do fear for the England players in this summer's Brazilian conditions...footy fans will not understand how stifling it'll be for western europeans

If you ever read SteveJ's post, I would rarely take what he writes seriously as he is a lighthearted poster. That one in particular is a jokey one, unless...

I say, what the beggar's going on?
*adjusts monocle*

Funny, I appreciate both of our two best players and don't want either to go. Am I in a minority now? Is that what it's come to with fans of this club?

We're suffering from Sven Syndrome: just as the former England manager seemed to select any English player who happened to score on Super Sunday, now our views are changed by one goal scored on a weekend.

While I sympathise with Wayne, what did he expect?
