Wayne Rooney | 2012-14 Performances

So having been given his nice shiny new £300,000 p.w contract that he clearly doesn't deserve, or warrant. He's now going out on the piss and turning up to training 'worse for wear', something he already has history for.It was clear that Fergie was absolutely right to want him out of the club. But instead, Moyes let him bend us over backwards.

His performances this season have also been wildly overstated, he's been as bad as everyone else for months, but no one has batted an eyelid.

Is there a source of some kind that implies that this was Rooney?

Me too. Before Moyes was actually sacked I wasn't hugely keen on the idea of LVG. But the more I think about it, now it's actually on the cards, the more I'm warming to it. It feels like a perfect fit to be fair. And if it goes pear shaped, what the hell, it'll be a great ride. But more than anything some of these players need their heads banging together, LVG is the man to do that. Last time round I wanted Ancelotti but now I'm starting to think he might be too soft. I want the players cowering with fear, playing for their lives.

I have this feeling that it'll be boom or bust with Van Gaal. Anyway, talking about Klopp and Simeone, it's easy to forget that the Dutchman was the hottest ticket in the game during the mid 90s. He had far more success under his belt and his side played the best football in the land. If he's here long enough I'd like to think he'll build from the bottom up...he's clearly a bloke who loves to mould and nurture young talent. Perfect fit?

We need a manager who can kick butts if they're not up to the task. If Rooney is not professional enough, he needs to be put in his place

According to The Mirror:

One of the legendary winger’s first decisions will be to hand striker Wayne Rooney the captaincy for the final four games of the season. The two have been mates for some time, with a strong mutual respect.

Pretty amusing if true. All those people who thought good old Giggsy would come in and put the jumped up little scrote Rooney in is his place. Turns out Giggs seemingly likes Rooney even more than Moyes did!

Is he match fit? He looks off the pace atm. Touch has been awful, seems to be competing for space in the number 10. role with Kagawa and Welbeck. Although it was a great penalty.

He was sloppy for most of the game, but had a great second half period (at the very start). My man of the match for his two goals that ended the game, but didn't think he had a better overall game than Kagawa, Carrick, or Evra.

This is one for all the Rooney haters, this guy is quality and is the man who holds our attack together

One day that chip is gonna hit the back of the net - nearly again!

I think he had a mixed performance. Poor first half with a very well taken penalty. Better second half but still lost possession too often. To be honest I doubt the scoreline would have been all that different whether he was playing or not. Good finish for the second goal though and might have had a third.

'Mixed' is probably how I would put it as well. But then you have to remember that Wayne is arguably the highest profile player in the U.K.. It's news if he misplaces a few passes, in a way that it isn't with others.

Still, scored twice, had a few other decent shots on target, put some good balls into the box, and might even have had a hat trick but for the fact he spent the last 30 minutes in midfield.

Sometimes he looks like absolute shit playing and then does something great. It wasn't his best performance but he had some decent moments today and was a big part of us winning, despite making a few mistakes.

Plays well, scrutinized by some.

He may not be everyone's cup of tea, but just give him a break. In the match day thread someone complained on how he lost the ball carelessly in our half, which was rightfully picked on. Mata does the same and it barely gets a comment. It's just petty. Be consistent or don't look for every negative thing about it.

People commenting on a players performance shocker...You're also just randomly grouping everyone together from a completely different thread, from a single post that no-one here made or is even talking about.

Cant remember Mata losing the ball on the edge of the box. Can you point out which minute?

He tried to break at one point after an interchange with one of the defenders after a Norwich attack and the ball got stuck between his feet and he lost it not far out of our box. Not long after he came on I don't think.

It's just not very consistent. If you're going to slate Rooney for doing X, then slate another player who does something similar. His errors are magnified by the factor of 1000 at times.

As I said, I know he's not everyone's cup of tea and I'm sure there's a good batch here who want him gone. But if he plays a big part in a good victory for us, then I don't understand why negativity should out-weigh the positiveness.

He's gotten better at taking penalties this season. He's not fannying about, and just drilling them low and hard. He went through a spell of some fecking horrible penalties.

Weird player; he was shite in the first half, then scored a great penalty. The first 15 minutes or so of the second half he was brilliant, and then he was absolute garbage for the rest of the half, misplacing passes, giving the ball away at our own 18 yard box and contributed zero to our attacking play. However, he won us the match... damn.

Well it sounds like you are actually talking about a specific persons post from the matchday thread, nothing to do with anyone's posts in here whatsoever. Why didn't you just quote the guy who made that post and address him, rather than assuming everyone here is saying that, when no-one actually is. In fact, the posts were in response to that first one which just skipped over the fact he still had a mixed game. It's always in extremes. You can appreciate the fact he obviously contributed heavily to our win with his goals, but still had a mixed performance and a poor first half.

I think it's absolutely fine to be able to comment on the positive and negative aspects of a players performance. Your post really had nothing to do with what anyone was talking about.

It was a typical Wayne Rooney performance. Sluggish touches and losing the ball a few times but provided the goods that mattered.

I didn't really say it was outside our box to be fair. But, he lost it in a dangerous area. That was my point.

Your point was that it was the same thing. Its not.

What you might want to say though is that Rooney was playing central midfield so more likely to be on the edge of his box than Mata.

Decent game. But still MOTM for me for the way we gathered confidence after his second goal.
Very good post-match interview. It was really like a responsible senior member of the team.

Same thing as losing it in a dangerous area? Yes they are the same thing. When is it no longer considered a "dangerous area"? A few meters past the box? Subjective. Mata lost it and Norwich broke and had a chance.

But whatever, my main point was that I'd quite happily slate him if he deserves it. Today, I think his positives outweigh the negatives.

I could almost hear the cogs in his brain working overtime to ensure he didn't stick the boot in with Moyes in that interview.

Its obviously nowhere close to the same thing losing the ball 40 yards out, or right on the edge of your own box.

What are the post match comments from the manager and players?
