Hope he doesn't get captaincy.
Its obvious he'l get it, has been for a long time. Take 1 look at the squad and you'l see how obvious it is.

I think a few of the reactions here are knee jerk. Only a few weeks back against West Ham/Villa people were talking him up, how he's better than RVP. Rooney as a #9 is generally a 30 goals a season player. He's always been shite coming back from injury though and the Everton atmosphere always gets to his game. No need to read too much into it. And those who wanted rid of him, he'd end up at Chelsea and be pretty fecking good for them and his contract was rolling down too and look how much Mata/Ozil cost if you want a ball park figure of getting a replacement.
The big issue is that Moyes needs to grow a set of balls. We have four strikers, it should be horses for courses but he refuses to start anyone but RVP/Rooney unless there is an injury. You can see why Hernandez is pissed off. SAF would play him in games where his strengths would be used (e.g. against Chelsea) but Moyes only has faith in him when we're 2-0 down.
When the feck does he ever scores 30 goals a season?
Were people really talking him up? Most likely they talk about his only wonder goal but scored 1 amazing goal isn't enough if you can't even play good consistency in every game with 250k per week in his pocket. I'm sorry to say this but I think Suarez deserves got paid more money than Rooney at the moment.
He was clearly played as number 9 yesterday and couldn't break thorough Stone and even when Distin went off he still couldn't play well. If I remember the only seasons he scored more than 30 goals were only 2 seasons in his career. Which is why we offered him that 250k per week. Well deserve. But now? Even last season. I don't think he deserves that money anymore.
I rather see him at Chelsea and be a good player for his sake than waste 250k per week with poor of his performance with us while we can spend cheaper on RVP, Welbeck, Hernandez, Wilson.
I actually don't mind to see Rooney starts. He's a class player in his prime. Even now he could somehow be the difference. But if he plays bad then Moyes should sub him off. I can't believe Fletcher and Welbeck were off instead of him against Bayern. I'm very surprise that he managed to play full 90 mins yesterday. Easter miracle does exist after all.
09/10, when he was on course for 40+ until he got injured and then 11/12.
He had a good all round performance against West Ham, his movement and hold up play were excellent and he also scored two quick-thinking goals. Against Villa he was clinical too when we needed goals. I wasn't claiming he had a good game yesterday, but have you not watched Rooney enough to know that he's absolutely dog when he's playing with an injury or coming back off an injury? Doesn't mean he's any less potent a centre forward. Even last season he was generally poor, but when RVP went off the boil, Rooney was the one scoring goals for us.
I don't think the Bayern or Everton games change my opinion that Rooney is good enough to lead our attack, just when he's clearly having a stinker we should be cut throat with him.
Once in his lifetime and you said "generally"?
Twice actually. Between 2006 and 2009, he was played on the flanks more to accomodate Ronaldo at times and also didn't take penalties and free kicks which take the shine off his statistics during that period. The first half of 2010/11 he had the world cup hangover but then settled back into top form in the second half of the season and last season was also very stop start but generally he's a consistent goal scorer for us if he's fit and playing up top.

He could probably hit those height if he stops being a "me me me" and do it all by himself, and not like he has the ability for that.
Must have been annoying for Carrick for him to drop deep, it simply means "you suck, i'll have the balls"
I agree against West Ham. But against Villa sorry I was expecting a better performance from a 250k per week. Even if I include Villa as his great performance. But still play really well in two games in 2014 only against those kind of level team? hmm sorry it still won't make me think he deserves to get out from a lot of criticize. The higher players wage when they play poor the higher is the criticize too.
As a player who are paid 250k per week. I don't expect Rooney to takes too long to play well after long injury in early of 2014. Even his recently injury before Bayern's 2nd leg game are not consider as a long injury. If he can't change that habit then we need to consider reduce his wage as well. If he plays with injury then he should tell the manager already that he wants a rest so he can be fully fit because there are Welbeck and Hernandez crying and wanting for their games and chances.
Last season RVP almost never went off the boil. He was so consistent.
I don't think Rooney played well against City and Liverpool as well.
Let's look at an example of Suarez. He plays so consistent in his recently season with Liverpool. Suarez consistent great form this season is what people want and expect from Rooney (The most highest paid in a club).
How's he shafted the club? What players turns down wage rises? How is Rooney special in anyway? He knew that Moyes couldn't afford to get rid and he held all the chips and so once again he shafted the club.

Rooney wasn't as good all round as he was against West Ham against Villa, but he did the important thing of scoring goals when the chances came. Rooney's not in the top tier of players, he's firmly in the second, his wages aren't going to change that. He knew that Moyes couldn't afford to get rid and he held all the chips and so once again he shafted the club.
I imagine that was what he was told to do. He's not THAT stupid. He kept looking for that ridiculous long pass out to the wing over and over. Every single time he got the ball. Just stop it you fecking brainless piece of shit. No wonder saf said in his book thay Rooney is slow to pick this up.

I believe that he was under instructions to get the ball out there when possible, yes.So you think that Moyes and c.o. told him 'When you've got acres of free space in front of you, you're on 20th yard in front of goal, do a cross field pass' ?
Every player asks for a wage everytime they sign a new contract do they not? If he wants away he goes away does he not?Not every player asks for a wage rise every couple of seasons. Neither do they ask to leave just as often

Maybe my view of it is exaggerated but yesterday seemed like the complete worst of Rooney. His every touch was just awful.
I agree Moyes has bent over backwards for him but does that mean he has to be happy with the coaching? Maybe I'm just looking for excuses for such an abject performance.
Yes. Signing the contract means he has to be happy with whatever Moyes tells him to do
Was yesterday typical Rooney or was that evidence of someone not playing for a manager who has lost the dressing room?
When you say couple, you mean 4 years right? In which case, I think you will find they do.Not every player gets a new contract every couple of seasons

If Rooney delivers more performances like the ones against Bayern and Everton he is finished under van Gaal.
Will be very interested to see what happens with Rooney if Van Gaal takes over. Rooney works very hard and is versatile which should count in his favour. But LVG wont pander to him, if RVP and Rooney cannot work together he wont duck the difficult decision and you have to assume RVP would come out of that one on top. I think itll work out, LVG will find a way to get the best out of both of them, but he wont be afraid to tell him he has to play in midfield or on the wing or whatever, or drop him if he doesnt like it.
Me too. Before Moyes was actually sacked I wasn't hugely keen on the idea of LVG. But the more I think about it, now it's actually on the cards, the more I'm warming to it. It feels like a perfect fit to be fair. And if it goes pear shaped, what the hell, it'll be a great ride. But more than anything some of these players need their heads banging together, LVG is the man to do that. Last time round I wanted Ancelotti but now I'm starting to think he might be too soft. I want the players cowering with fear, playing for their lives.I'm starting to think we need someone like Van Gaal who won't be scared to make tough and unpopular decisions.
