that strike against the post was amazing. Just a little luck and it was in. His goal was pure Rooney.

Fulham deserved something from the match...Rooney was the difference.

He just looks so confident.

I'm sure he will give Madrid a bit of a shock.

So is there an England player who could get in the Brazil team?

Rooney is a player I like - there is not a national squad in the world he would not improve. Ashley Cole is a fantastic defender. I have seen him keep the best players in the world quiet.

Ronaldinho is a freaking idiot. I would sell Rooney for 30m in a heart beat.

Goal and an assist tonight so far for England. Looking sharp and in form at just the right time.

He is doing very well tonight, not motm though. Wilshere has been running the show all game.

Thought he put in a great performance tonight, played the striker role to perfection. Hope he's not too tired though. He's in great form right now.

As usual it's taken him a run of games to play like we know he can. Rooney's bang in form right now, and he couldn't have timed it better. When he's like this you just have to give him the ball and let him work his magic. He's looking sharp in and around the box and long may that continue.

Real Madrid, beware. :)

I love it when he plays like this. Rooney is without a doubt our best and most important player. Priceless.

Glad he played tonight - the more games he plays on the current form he's on, the longer he'll be on it for! Play him at Everton and Madrid I say.

Rooney and Van Persie - what a fecking partnership.

Every passing game makes some posters in the forum's Rooney threads look like absolute whoppers. A horrendous level of nonsense was being talked about him a couple of months back. All because of one poor game against Swansea.

He is really hitting his stride now, perfect timing! Wayne's a beast when on form

Now it's going the other way - RvP has gone a few without scoring, so Rooney is the flavour of the week. Knee-jerkism.

I have been saying he is our most important player all season. And I still believe that to be the case.

Cnuts in the office saying he was overrated last night, wasn't good at all, then they call me out and say I bite easily whenever I say anything, I'm supposed to sit in silence when they're slagging him off and talking bollocks.

I'm actually quite complimentary of other team's players if they did well like Walcott and Wilshere but it seems not to be the case with fans from other teams. This is why I hate England.

That and the booing from the fans during the Munich tribute: bunch of inbreds.

Soooo... The big question is: Do we unleash Rooney in this mood in the same sort of role he had last night where he can get involved with everything or do we sacrifice him for tactics and play him in a deeper, more defensive role like we used to for the big games and use RVP on his own up top?

We ask both of them to go gung ho and do their thing.

Has to be the latter. You can't not play the guy who has been our main man this season.

What question, what would you do with RvP in first case?

Keep him going! Our game with madrid is going to be all about the defense. With RVP, rooney and chicharito all in top form we're guarenteed a few goals over the two legs just need the defense to do their jobs!

What question, what would you do with RvP in first case?

It's more a question of wether to play him in a withdrawn role on the left and give him defensive duties in a 4-5-1 or play him along side Van Persie in something more like a 4-4-1-1.

The "problem" I think we have is that our best link between midfield & attack is Kagawa and that both RVP & Rooney are best as the man up top.

"Problems" :)

With Cleverley Carrick and Anderson behind?

Yes. As those are the only three viable options as of now, since Scholes/Giggs might not last in a match of this intensity. And depending upon how the match is shaping up, we can throw in Nani to provide us width.

Even though we won't play with much of a width, at least the front 6 will be compact in their play.

Do Madrid themselves use much width per se?

I know De Maria likes to get wide at times but other than that they generally play through the middle don't they?

If thats the case a 4-3-3 of that team above with Evra and Rafael providing width is not only our best team on paper but tactically a good match for Madrid.

I think we need proper width. Having someone like Nani out wide will create more space for Rooney and RVP in the middle than playing Kagawa there who won't give us any width.

Oh, I thought you were talking about him as lone striker in 451, that's why I asked where would you play van Persie in that case.

I have feeling we'll play him left in 451.

He is getting into his usual groove. Our 2 most important players in RvP and him are taking turns to carry the responsiblity for the team

He is going to tear Everton and Madrid a new one - I just know it !!!

Really? Without a doubt? What about RVP?

To me they're as close as they can be.
Right now Rooney's in a better form, earlier on it was RvP.

Neither of them are "clearly" the better player, although IMO they're both clearly the 2 best players in the PL.

I'm just happy we got them both, and hopefully with Rooney in form RvP can find it again just in time for Madrid.

If I had to choose one though I'd go for Rooney in terms of overall importance to the team, but it's an incredibily tough call, RvP is pure class.
