His work rate is also insane. Chasing players, making blocks. This is like Rooney of 6-7 years ago.

If you want a laugh, please move back about two or three months through the Rooney threads on this forum. Same absolute whoppers summarily wrote him off. What a week he's had. Main man with RvP playing a quieter role. Heartbeat.

It's the one thing that angers me more than most.

People who fail to realise and appreciate his importance.

Brilliant performance, the more games he plays the better he gets.

Class even without the goal. Covered all sorts of ground and his overall play was fantastic.

I remember vividly having rows with posters about him. RvP was at the height of his form and Rooney was out of the side.

Idiots are far too quick to write him off.

Two wins this week, and he's scored all the goals. Can't get more integral than that.

He raised his form just in time, excellent today. Hope he continues like this.

Came up with the goods. Then after getting the goal it was good seeing him throwing his body in the way of shots and working hard. Had some very nice link up play with RVP and a few others in the first half as well.

Also loved it how he went a bit nuts after his goal. Hasnt done that for ages. Looked really hungry today. Lovely

Why does he always get written off? When we had Berbatov and Tevez some of the press were saying he would lose his place in the team. Start of the season some of the press were saying he would lose his place again. They never learn.

Wayne Rooney - top player.

He is our most important player and I said this when RVp was going great guns. There were people who wanted to drop him because he had one shite game against Swansea

Sensational stuff from Roo these days. Scary stuff if you're Jose working on a game plan to deal with United. A month ago you could say "Contain RvP and you've contained United." You can't say that now.

If we can work Nani into top gear then I think we can write off Real altogether. And yes, I am aware of Ronaldo.

loving this thread right now, hasn't been this cheerful since...well...ever

bizarre point when Madrid regularly 'deal' with the likes of Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, Sanchez etc.

It's brilliant that when Rooney isn't scoring much, RvP does and when RvP stops scoring a bit we have Rooney to take over. You can stop one of them but not both!

Is it just me or does Rooney seem to be thriving now with the pressure and spotlight off him now that RvP has been labelled the main man by pretty much everyone? Defenders also seem to give him more space since they're busy with RvP and this is helping him influence games even more. Brilliant performance from him again and he'll always be our most important player imo. He's really got a brilliant habit of being a man for the big moments. Scores such crucial goals!

Excellent today and good that he had an impact from the left and you'd think the way foward will have him, kagawa and rvp alternating in attack, Nani as well hopefully. When he plays like this he really is our top man with his contribution going forward and in defence. Hitting form at just the right moment.

Since start of last ssn Rooney involved in 68 goals in 66 games for MUFC (47 gls, 21 assists). Not Messi-esque, but impressive nonetheless.

Excellent stat that.

However it'll take two bad performances on the trot for the Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime to come out of their woodwork.

Important point. Used to really look marginalised when he was shunted out wide. Would work his backside off, make blocks, tackles etc. but really blunted his attacking threat. Didn't knock a spot off him today, looked really menacing. Proper variety there now with himself, RVP and Kagawa. Some feckers forget how invigourating he is when he hits his stride. For his teammates and for the fans. So hard to find that. Worth having a bit of patience when he's a little off the pace. God knows it's never for very long.

as soon as he saw Evra was going off to the sidelines for treatment he slotted to a left back position without waiting for instructions or even looking at the bench.

The man has an amazing footballing brain.

2? One Swansea-esque performance and they'll be back.

Yeah it was really OTT then. That Swansea match made a lot of our posters forget the fine season he was having

Rooney plays below-par, we have RVP to step up and we seen vice-versa today. That's why it's important to have more than one world class striker in the team.

I forgot how good he was. No joke.

But he really is immense when in this mood.

Aye but let's not forget how Rooney handled himself in tight situations. A lot of times, he lets his touch get the best of him and we lose possession. Today, he wasn't having any of that and just about everything he did today was with precision.

During a match, I'll get a bit frustrated by his wastefulness but there was none of that. It was top class and long may it continue.

The goal today reminds me of a certain Ronaldo goal against Fulham a few years back.

Title winning moment perhaps?.

Wayne stepped up today when we needed him, he read the bounce well and showed desire to get there first.

Could of had 5 goals today, was very unlucky with the post shot.

I was on his amazing goal and assists stats at 56 in 54, so there.

I've observed a marked increase in the level of sharpness of Rooney’s overall play during the last few matches after his return from injury. I thought he had another great game today, dictating much of our attacking forays in the final third of the pitch with attractive, intricate combination plays and was quite unlucky not to score another goal besides the decisive one he executed brilliantly. Hopefully he’ll be able to sustain this recently attained excellent form over the remainder of the season, so he may demonstrate similarly solid performances in other crucial matches like the two upcoming Champions league games against Real Madrid.

Said it after the Southhampton game, he'll have good game and he definitely not even taking into account the winner.

Hopefully he'll finally put together an out of this world performance against the Toffees next weekend - think we'll need it.

Yeah I had the same flashback. It didn't have the same run with the ball as back then but in terms of importance in the title race, it's every bit as important. A goal I'll look back on time and time again and think "thank feck for that" come May. Hopefully!
