Are some of you for real? You don't hate a player like him after all he's done for us because he was unhappy with how Fergie treated him last season? Who gives a feck if he used potential transfers as leverage for getting a new contract like in 2010, it happens all the time. We have a genuine world class player who has been here for 10 years, is on his way to become our all time top scorer and this season when everything is falling apart, he's the only one other then Januzaj who is giving his all and he's basically carried us. His commitment on the pitch is never in question, and he is a class player to boot. Yet some of you are butthurt because you had an idealistic view of him that he was a player who didn't care about money and just wanted to be at United his whole career. It's like some of you hate him because he didn't live up to the unrealistic perception you lot had in your heads?
If this new contract stuff is true, it's brilliant news, and among the best things to happen to us this season along with tying down januzaj and signing Mata.

Ridiculous money, it's not like he is 25, he'll be 29 this year and we all know he isn't Giggsy type of lad who takes care of himself that much. I definitely can't see him playing on this level for more than two years, and even if he could no way he is going to be this consistently good either, his this season's form and consistency is pretty much surprise to anyone.
He is excellent this season, no doubt about that, I really appreciate when someone is playing well when most of his teammates aren't in their best form, but he is also our most paid player alongside van Persie and you certainly expect from your best player to lift your team and play well when others are struggling, that's why they are called best players in the squad after all, and that's why you pay them - to make a difference.
If he wants to go I really don't think we should allow him to blackmail the club, there is no player who can't be replaced, and with that kind of money we could get pretty much any midfielder we want, and with Mata's arrival and world class midfielder I think we would be better than we were with just Rooney.
I could be wrong though, but I'll always trust Fergie when he says that player should never be above the club, and the first time that happens it means that club isn't going in right direction, and he repeated that pretty much every once in a while, and with giving him 300k p/w and naming him captain after all those things I can see that happening. Imagine if Mata become's better player than him in one year period, will he ask for 500k then? That's salary of Messi and Ronaldo, and he is definitely not good as them, hell when is the last time he was best player in the Premiership alone? I am not underrating him, he is definitely excellent player, and our best, but I think he doesn't deserve that. If Rooney really accepts that deal, he'll prove once again that it was again just about the money like it was always with him and he won't fail to disappoint once again. I really thought he is fed up with Manchester and that he really wants to go this time no matter what, but after seeing he is discussing new enormous deal it's obvious that that's not the case. Too sum up, I think he is our best player, he deserves to be paid more than others, but to be paid that much, sorry, but I don't think he deserves it, simple as that.

All this of course, if those rumours are true.

I'm hoping he stays with you. Good player, but I'm not sure he's a positive influence.

On the field he typically epitomizes a positive influence. Seems to get along with a lot of the squad. So, not a positive influence how?

I'd rather we use our money on keeping/buying top players than saving the extra cash and spending it on mediocrity. 27.5m of our money has gone on Fellaini and we continue to pay 100-120k week wages to Ashley Young. I'd rather we keep Rooney, sell Young and give Rooney his wages than save money for mediocre players and watch our best players leave.

this.

the signs are encouraging, it seems that suddenly moyes got that transfer muppet bug in him.

mata, and we are now linked to the likes of vidal, pogba, kross, shaw etc. players that are going to be more than squad player for us for sure. hopefully he can pull a few more great transfer moves.

Talking in a different perspective, it's justifiable why Rooney was upset with SAF. He was always the one who had to adjust and sacrifice according to the other player's strengths simply because of his ability and talent.

Ronaldo was the best player in the world, Rooney got shafted wide. RvP is a better striker and we don't have enough creative players behind him, Rooney will play as #10. Centre midfield is light due to injuries? Rooney played as CM. Team needs a leader on the pitch? depend on Rooney.

Yes he got a huge weekly salary for that and a professional football should do exactly as the manager says. He did that dutifully for many years now but we can't expect him not to sulk after that. He's an out and out striker and a brilliant one. He has served us for years and was the talisman in the team who performed at the biggest of stages and won us games by acting like a leader and taking matters on his own hands sometimes. Money seems to be the only motivating factor for him and it's getting tiring he keeps stalling his contract.

His biggest asset is his ability to adjust and that's why the fans love him and sing his name, He got a huge bump in his wages already. He's overestimating himself and does not have the best physique. He's not in the top tier of strikers(partially because of SAF). Giving him 300k a week would be ridiculous IMO. he's not that good and he's thinking he's got moyes by the balls. This has happened too many times already. Moyes should show authority and give him an ultimatum. There's a reason why SAF didn't believe in him at one point of time. I think we should move on and spend on someone else. If Rooney wants to leave, let him go, preferably to a different league. Make the max of the situation. I wouldn't hate him for that. It's understandable.

Fantastic news.

Funny how everyone expects him to turn into a fatty and become useless once he turns 30. He might be no Ryan Giggs but I still expect him to be a very good player at 32/33 at the very least and he's got enough about him to change his game if needed.

Not a big fan of him but I think he'll definitely stay a lot more longer than Van Persie. It's just the wages that's doing my head in. He's ransoming the club and this isn't the first time

I really don't give a shite. Sell Valencia and Young and pay the saved over wages to Rooney.

Mind you, I have a hard time believing the report in any case. Last time the papers reported 180k initially which slowly increased to 300k each time they had a piece on Rooney.

Rooney is one of our best players and we're in a critical period. Glad he'll stay (if the reports are true).

And if we all want the club to splash big money in the transfer market to bring in good talent, then I wouldn't mind us splashing money to keep our talent in the club.

I'm fine with it. He's not holding the club ransom. If we can afford to pay it then there's tons of players out there who would accept it. We've offered it to him is all. If this is all true it's a hell of a statement from the club. Mata and a mega deal for Rooney.

this is going to be his last big contract. of course he will ask for an increase from last time around. his performance from the first half of the season suggest that he is still going to be our talisman. rooney signing a new deal and the transfer of mata means we are on the right track.

Due back 28/1/14 according to physio room, Fellaini also same date so we should be good for Cardiff.
Be great to see the front line with both Roo and Mata starting, ideal game for it and a must have 3 points with the scousers likely stripping points from one another.

Honestly don't see anything in these contract rumours. My gut still says that he is off but if they can manage to keep him, it will be great for the team.

Think it would be a big mistake if the bumper deal rumours are true, IMO. A player who has renegotiated his contracted for a few years now and tried to flee is neither someone to build your future around nor make Captain. Might even mean needing to move a player like RVP.

Feel like Roo had the club by the short & curlies and they continue to cater to his demands

Spot on.

Rooney will turn 29 this year and doesn't strike me as someone who could be in great physical shape in 2-3 years. He was having fitness issues already before entering his prime. Besides, all the talk about him having a great season should be put in perspective. He's scored less goals than central midfielders like Toure and Ramsey, not to mention the most prolific strikers in England who have scored twice the goals Rooney has managed so far.

Why shouldn't he try and get as much money as he can, the way he goes about it may not be right, but can you really blame him?
As for the reported £300k a week, I call bullshit.

We either get to have Rooney for 5 more years or sell him for a big move in the summer. Big Mistake indeed:rolleyes:

And building our future around him can only be a good thing.

Until next season when he wants to renegotiate or be sold

The good, for me, is that perhaps this might make RVP available after the WC

This will be his last big contract with us. If he wants to renegotiate again after this, he'll be asked to feck off.

You're talking out of your arse as usual.

This will be his last big contract. And IF he wants to renegotiate after this it means he's had an absolute stormer of a season which again can only be good for the club.

I imagine these same sentiments were expressed each time he asked for a new deal or transfer. I'm familiar with this sort of yearly nonsense, Ronnie & his brother did this all the time.

It is clear what David said to Wayne, "Sign a new deal Wayne. I plan on buying a load of players. I plan on buying everybody....mmmmm...sexy players...."

Say people, I remember from FM that van Persie have a "match highest earner wage" in his contract. Can anyone confirm that? And if so, does this mean that both him and Rooney are going to be on 300k a week if Rooney will renew?

At least the club now has more leverage over this contract negotiation process. Despite spending 37m on Mata we might actually end up saving money on Rooney's extension. Ready made replacement in case Rooney's cnut agent decides to feck us off.

Agreed with this first bit here. I actually see RVP leaving this Summer potentially, and not Wayne.

Disagree with second bit though. He's not ransoming the club - we're just desperate to keep him. He's expressed his wishes to go in the Summer, and the way he's been playing this season has been fantastic - he's dealt this situation marvelously well considering he's constantly under the spot light regarding his form and whether he's leaving or not.

The way he's carried us this season, he's worth the rumoured wage to us. Just imagine where we'd be without him. Easily bottom 10

or because he's a money-grabbing dickhead.

He was earning the same as Rooney last season but I am not sure if that was due to a highest earner clause or just a figure we agreed on when we signed him.

I suppose we can moan about the rumoured £300k a week being too much, but it is only what he would get if he went to Chelsea. We shouldn't have bent over so easily to his demands last time round.

fecking hell, if Rooney stays we could be looking at one of our best sides in the last 20 years if we complete it with a great left back and 2 central midfielders. Few clubs boast the attacking options of having Mata, RVP, Rooney, Januzaj, Kagawa and Nani.
