Don't like the bloke but when the other senior players have sulked and not shown responsibility, he's been running around like a maniac and making stuff happen.
As long as he carries on doing that after he's had his contract extended no one can complain.

£300k is a lot of money. That said I do not want to see him at Chelsea under any circumstances. If we were to sell then I would prefer it to be abroad but it looks like realistically selling him would mean to Chelsea. A rival, and an inform Rooney is capable of magic on the pitch. If the club are satisfied they can justify and afford £300k then feck it. Sign him up.

Just like the Madrid rumours which ran in most English papers despite being clearly untrue a few days before that, and it only makes sense for the Rooney camp to leak them if he was in the process of negotiating a new deal. I'm convinced he's staying, have been for a few days now.

Yep, just the last roll of the dice before entering negotiations. Mata deal has been pretty key in all this I think. Remember Rooney saying that he wanted the club to sign Ozil? Think he'd be delighted with Mata.

True but 300k a week doesn't sit comfortably with me at all. I don't think Rooney is worth double the likes of Mata and RvP, almost up there with Ronaldo and Messi...It's all good if he continues his great form but a return to the Rooney of last year would be a massive waste of money and I wouldn't rule it out once he's got a new contract.

When RvP joined us he was reported to be on around about what Rooney is currently on. Even when he's not in the best of form, he still is so important to us and makes things happen. 300k is a hell of a lot, but is probably the going rate for someone like him who has been at the club so long and is not far off becoming the club's all time top goalscorer.

Each time a new TV rights deal is agreed, the big players want their cut.

Plus signing him up means I can rub it in the faces of my Chelsea and Citeh friends who are convinced he is either part of the Mata deal still or on his way to Chelsea in the summer. People may say they think £300k is a bit sickening. I would be more sick seeing him in a Chelsea shirt.

The £300k figure, much like the £250k one, is unlikely to be all paid by the club, it probably involves a cut of image rights which I think come from other sources rather than directly through the club. It's still a reduction of income for the club as Rooney will get a greater share of royalties from certain merchandise and other stuff but large part won't be paid by the club to him, at least not directly.

This will benefit England in the WC too, for once Rooney might go into a tournament only thinking about his football and not injured, suspended or unhappy.

A new deal means he's immune from injury, suspension and being a prick?

Would be great news. Never gonna be my favourite of our players but he's stood up this season when others haven't.

Plus it would also prove that Mata wasn't signed as his eventual replacement, which is hopefully one more sign of us changing the way we play.

Between this and the Mata deal we'd certainly have proof we're willing to spend big to get things right.

If he keeps playing as he is then great. An off-form Wayne is a liability though. But I already got it completely wrong once in the summer when I thought he was finished as a top level player and wanted him replaced with Ozil so I'm prepared to wait a while before moaning this time!

With the money we make, I don't care how much we give to our players.
This. Our revenues are increasing and if we want to improve our first team, it has to start by keeping our existing best players.

Also I reckon Nike would prefer Rooney to be at the club if they were to sign that new kit deal.

If he's signed up, and it's not a ploy to get a decent price for him, then it's exciting times ahead.

This season is a bit of a write-off but RVP, Rooney, Mata and Januzaj in attack plus hopefully midfield and defensive recruits in the summer.

I don't want to get all RAWK-ish but I can't help it, roll on next season! :D

I think his big problem with Ferguson is that he never wanted to play as a number 10. He wants to be a number 9 with someone supplying him. He wants to be a goal scorer which is why Moyes knew he needed to challenge him to beat Sir Bobby's record.

He wanted us to sign Ozil a few years ago and now Rooney has finally got his #10 to play behind him.

There's a Dutch elephant in the room though.

A 31 year old who needs to be managed to be effective. Not a problem for me.

It's what you call any managers dream headache.

No - a contract can end whenever, it is just that in almost all cases they end in summer as it makes sense. Honda being a recent example of one that didn't.

In England? Contracts end after the season finishes. Seriously

If Van Persie is fit he will play, 30 years old or not, I do think people are starting to forget how good he is. Before Rooney got injured he was playing deeper behind Welbeck and we won 6 in a row, hopefully this is where he plays when him and RVP come back next week.

When RVP is fully fit he will play as the striker, he's just too good to leave on the bench, the hard task is picking the 3 or 4 players who play behind him.

Well with a bit of luck they'll all be fit next season and we will juggle them all through the competitions like we should be able to rather than playing who ever is fit or half fit if needs be.

Can £300k p/w really be true? I know the tabloids fluctuate all the time with player wages, and some choose to include other fees into the figures, so it's always a bit ambiguous, but it doesn't sound typically Manchester United to be paying a player £1.2million per month. It's alot of money to invest in a player who has shown signs of being uncertain about his future at the club and his desire to leave.

Unthinkable amounts of money.

I'll be glad to see his future sorted, as I don't think Wayne would sign a contract just to leave, knowing he would hold all the aces when forcing a move this summer, if that's what he wanted to do. I just can't imagine United paying a player so much.

I don't really want him to stay if I'm honest, I just don't want him to stay in this country.
