Agree, but his own ticket at 30 may not be attractive in terms of salary and term.
Of course it will be. He'll be available on a free and could offer 3-4 years to any team he goes to. Zlatan got a massive deal at PSG at pretty much the same age, van Persie moved to United at 29 and got a good deal too - with players of this quality you don't think twice before you offer them a very good deal. His marketing value is significant too.

I think one of the main reasons Rooney wanted to leave was because deep down he was probably frustrated that Fergie wasn't signing top quality players. Hence why his first 'want-away' involved him saying we were not being ambitious in the market or something like that. Fergie's book included a section that said Rooney asked Fergie to sign Ozil and was rebuffed. As a striker, there is nothing more frustrating when you don't have players creating for you, so you have to drop deep and create for yourself. I'd say he was frustrated to be doing all the work and not seeing top quality additions who would create for him.

Perhaps now he sees that Moyes is in it to get the quality that is needed. Mata is the first step, but it is well documented that Moyes has been chasing high quality midfield targets. Maybe this might convince Rooney to stay.

I won't even be that pissed anymore if he does join Chelsea. He's most likely off in the summer, so if Chelsea's the only team offering us something else in return then why not? Their going to sign a top striker anyways, and we would have to replace Rooney one way or another and what player could we sign better then Mata? Plus this way we get half a season of Rooney AND Mata, to help us get top 4 and help us with other targets like Gundogan et all.

I feel pretty much this way.

cannot be allowed to leave he's crucial on and off the field.
the negotiations may well be a long drawn out (and at times painful) process but i expect him to sign-up eventually and finish his career here.

At least there are negotiations. That is a start

And if there are meetings over two days then it would appear a good thing to me.

Stretford is a cnut but what can we do, we've got to deal with him. Just get Rooney signed up, we've seen life without him and it's fecking bleak to say the least.

Give him whatever he wants. He is so vital to us that it's actually hilarious and scary.

I have no idea where we would be without him. If we lose him in the Summer, then we'll just have another "transition" season of losing one of our crucial cogs that have been with us for 10 years.

He is simply the most important player at United, if Moyes keeps him it will be great. However, saying that, I can't help but feel an eerie similarity to when Ronaldo stayed on in his last season. He seems to be getting his head down and just performing on the pitch too well, and I get the feeling we have a deal in place allowing him to leave in Summer as it would be beneficial to all involved. We'd not lose him on a free, and he'd get to go.

Mata for me is not a Rooney replacement.

If he wants to go, let him. Unhappy players are no use to us. I'd love him to stay if he wants to. If he doesn't, I don't care what he does. I want players who love the club. Idealistic, I know.

Never really thought he'd go, even in the constant press attention over the summer.

A whopping wage, playing up front and some big signings seem to be big reasons to stay for me. He'd have so much to prove elsewhere and I doubt anyone would better his wages by too much!

With him and VP fit all season we wouldn't be anywhere near as low as 7th!

The Real Madrid link is interesting because it was in quite a few English papers the same day, with the Spanish media denying Madrid have any interest in him, which indicates it didn't come from Madrid, and I doubt it came from us, which leaves the Rooney camp. That leaves me thinking he is interested in signing a new deal, if he isn't then why bother leaking stuff about Madrid wanting him? That's only useful if he's in negotiations, and the Mirror and Mail are now both saying that he is. I think he'll stay.

He got the hump when we signed rvp and he had to fight for his place, we are now on the verge of signing a sensational no. 10, rinse and repeat, he's off.

I don't think Moyes will be the one to shunt Rooney anywhere. Given the choice he'll play Mata either side of Rooney with RVP up front.

Januzaj - Rooney - Mata
RVP
That'll be what he goes for, I reckon. Could work too.

The Mata deal doesn't really compute if you think about us telling Chelsea to sod off when trying to sign Rooney last summer. If there was an agreement for a move this summer, however..

The only reason this mata transfer makes sale is if Rooney goes the other way.

I'm not giving up hope but the logical part of me cannot disagree with this assessment. Seems pretty much a foregone conclusion. I mean, Stretford was at United today? And they're working on the Mata deal. If a Rooney option was included in that deal would Stretford be involved in that? Seems like a bit of a coincidence otherwise, him being there negotiating, today.

Don't think Rooney realizes he is going the other way - well maybe whoever handles his twitter doesn't.

Perhaps, perhaps. But Maureen is an odd one. I can see him sanctioning this move regardless. It seems to be a new thing of his. And United just entered talks with Stretford. Which surely means that a) the Mata deal is off or b) United have no intention to let Rooney go.

I'm pretty sure they'll work together.
It just seems like such a un-mourinho like thing to do. It's madness to sell one of your best players to a rival. They'd easily find buyers from abroad for him. I can't think of any other reason that would justify it from Chelsea's pov.

c) Mureen is coming to united this summer and has "signed" Mata and Rooney is staying :-)

I find to hard to believe he would. I don't recall any "bizarre" moves by him in the transfer market. Like the deal pep did to get ibrahimovich was seriously odd. Mourinho has always been more pragmatic.

Maureen could be gambling. He reckons Rooney won't sign an extension and that we'll be willing to let him go in the summer. Or he just doesn't regard Mata coming to us as being a decisive factor. He isn't Messi, after all. He's been banging on about not being afraid of selling players to your rivals even if it strengthens them - perhaps he actually believes in this principle? Admirable if so, one could say.

The most I can see Rooney involved in the Mata transfer is that we promised Chelsea that IF we were to sell Rooney this summer, we wouldn't block a possible move to Chelsea.

We wouldn't be in any position to block it.
