You didn't need Ballague to tell you that.
Ballague said that Real have zero interest in Rooney
Timing is everything with regards to Rooney's situation. Remember back to the summer, Chelsea were the only team to show interest and they didn't exactly break the bank to try to get him. Yes Rooney has had a good first half of the season (without being prolific in the scoring stats) and looks much improved on last seasons form. However, if the World Cup becomes his showcase he runs the risk of damaging his credibility with a poor showing in Brazil. Nothing tells me that he can excel in a weak England team at this summers WC.
So where would that leave him? If others don't come in for him in the summer his leverage with us gets diluted and the possibility of a contract extension, at the same terms as he is on today, into his 30's becomes hard to justify. If others do come in for him in the summer they will have to weigh up a 25M transfer fee plus wages of ~250K for an "older" 29 year old. This will not appeal to many. Lastly if we hold him to his contract then he begins negotiations with other clubs as a 30 year old in 2015. I don't believe there are many clubs willing to meet his salary expectations over a 3-5 year contract for a 30 year old Rooney.
Although it appears that he is holding the cards I believe that the club has a strong hand as well. If I am advising Rooney right now I am reminding him that a "bird in the hand is worth two in the bush". If Utd are currently offering a contract extension take it. If not he may find himself isolated without credible suitors that will match his salary expectations.
Worth noting the however bit! Of course he'll stay if we continue to recruit the likes of mata and secure CL footy!

He's been brilliant this season when he's played. It'd be sad to find out that his return to form only coincided with him looking for a new club.
He's Van Persie-ing you. It'd be amusing if it wasn't so painful.
Speculation.
But I think the majority of us here have come to the conclusion he'll probably be off in the Summer. We don't really need the media to tell us that.
Agree, but his own ticket at 30 may not be attractive in terms of salary and term.If Rooney won't sign a new contract, United will have to let him go cheap in the summer, or risk losing him for nothing. Worst case scenario for Roo is to run down his contract and walk away in summer 2015. He can write his own ticket if he's available on a free.
no, I figure we have some sort of deal with Chelsea to allow a move in the summer. I cannot think of any other reason for the Mata deal.Does anyone see us keeping Rooney?

I won't even be that pissed anymore if he does join Chelsea. He's most likely off in the summer, so if Chelsea's the only team offering us something else in return then why not? Their going to sign a top striker anyways, and we would have to replace Rooney one way or another and what player could we sign better then Mata? Plus this way we get half a season of Rooney AND Mata, to help us get top 4 and help us with other targets like Gundogan et all.no, I figure we have some sort of deal with Chelsea to allow a move in the summer. I cannot think of any other reason for the Mata deal.

Under no circumstances must this guy be allowed to leave the club. The team are absolutely clueless without him. Give him a massive, massive contract.

He's off. He's been off for a good while in his head.
The way he's been playing suggests otherwise tbf.
