He always plays like a numpty at World Cups.

Hasn't he always been injured for World Cups' though? From my memory he's been to two so far and one was the metatarsal thing where it was all over the news if he would make the trip or not and the other was the ankle injury v Bayern which he aggravated again when coming back for United. Arguably shouldn't have gone to neither.

He owned Euro 2004 which is more than Lampard and Gerrard have ever done.

I wouldn't expect a new contract to be signed whatsoever

Why not? He likes the manager, has two young kids and a wife settled in Manchester and will command an enormous wage from us. I'd be surprised if he didn't sign.

good points. Rooney is at his peak now.

Hes also 29 in october and this will be his last big contract....the temptation of a huge signing on fee to boot. I can almost guarantee there is no way Wayne Rooney will want to be a Utd player if, as expected, we finish outside top 4.

No, you really can't.

I think we'll let him run his contract down, there is no chance we'll sell him to another English side.
Well the longer we let his contract run down, the less say we have. He could just pull a Lewandowski and that be the end of it.

Would be a disaster losing him for free. He is one of the few players that attracts a decent fee. If he doesn't sign by the World Cup, we have to hold a for sale sign over his head. Tell Kagawa, you wanted the 10 spot, well you have a season to show what you have.

Now I want Rooney to stay but if he doesn't sign, we have to bite the bullet and sell.

No point in making him stay another season. Take the £30m and use it to buy his replacement. And no, I think Kagawa isn't that.

I hope we don't do what Dortmund did with Lewandowski. Imagine Rooney signing for Chelsea next January but still having half a season to go in a United shirt, knowing he'll swan off for free in the summer.
I certainly wouldn't like to see that, I'd rather we let him go in the summer.

As as much as I like Kagawa, of our current players, over the course of a season I could see Januzaj playing more games in the hole. He's still got a lot to learn about playing there at the top level, such as positioning and defensive awareness off the ball for example, but he's improving in those aspects all the time, and he really imposes himself on games and has it in him to dictate the play which is essential in that position.

I was agreeing with you on that :)
Ah, my bad it looked like as though you were disagreeing. I am kind of with you on the Kagawa issue but the way I see it, if he is still there, use him. That shouldn't stop our search for a world class replacement but Rooney leaving could prove very beneficial for Kagawa.

No, you really can't.

Very good. Jesus. Of course i cant - in emphasising how sure i am he will be off.

There are so many on here deluding themselves over Rooney. Just do not be surprised when the inevitable happens when/if we finish outside top 4

It's a very rare case that footballer buy out contracts. He won't buy out his contract, no chance.

I have be resigned to losing him for some time.I think his face when he came on against Swansea in the opening game did it for me.I wish him well I think! Of course he may stay but I don't see it.

Correct. He and Stretford well aware of his position only getting stronger from a negotiation perspective. End of season and the PR bandwagon will start trying to push this through

What if the club he's going to provides a massive signing-on fee that could easily cover that amount?

It was speculated even in the last summer window that Rooney's gonna use that clause. Obviously most of the top teams can easily cover that signing on fee but nearly all of them don't use this clause because it'll mean more player power. Imagine the chaos if every player who has 2 years left on his contract starts using this clause every time he's not sold to the club of his choice. If Rooney goes, it'll be by old fashioned method.

Yes, apparently Rooney will need a just cause to buy out the last year, he can't just do it because he feels like.

Going to miss the Swansea game, been sent to the US for 'warm weather recuperation'.

Eh, what?

Don't remember players being sent for warm weather recuperation before that's all. It must be reasonably serious or am I missing something?

I'm pretty sure Rooney has done it before when he went to America?

The dog shit weather in Manchester at the moment won't help with muscle recover is probably the only factor in the decision.

Aren't they dealing with a Polar Vortex in America at the moment? I'm not sure I understand the warm weather logic.

It's a big country. Plenty of places that won't be that cold. Southern California, Miami, Corpus Christie. Lots of nice tropical spots where no one will reocgnize him.

Also, the polar vortex is on its way out. We're going to get above zero in Toronto today.

Rooney loves a bit of warm weather recuperation, surprised Madrid haven't been interest in him yet

They said something about he was having a holiday with his family as well. Fair enough, I'm sure Colleen and the kids need another holiday. Why can't we seem to get anyone fit?

Moyes has handled the fitness of our players brilliantly. Quite delighted. Robin van Persie misses nearly the entire season after playing all 38 League matches of the previous two seasons. Michael Carrick is forced to play injured against Arsenal and subsequently misses over a month with an aggravated injury. Now Rooney plays with an injury against Spurs and aggravates his injury. Lovely management from Moyes. Wonderful how he alienates certain players like Fábio, Anderson, and Zaha so that players like Evra, Cleverley, and Valencia play virtually every game without ever getting a rest, making their performances seemingly worse with each passing week. Speaks very highly of the trust van Persie and Rooney have in Moyes' fitness team that these players seek to recuperate elsewhere. Sensational management from Moyes.
