The more our inconsistencies and poor management continue, I really fear that Rooney won't sign a new contract - and why would he. If we are still way of the pace come Jan/Feb time, I think he will decide to leave. Then we truly are fecked...

His booking seem to be borne out of frustration, it can't be easy playing with these bunch of chumps.

Booked so suspended vs Newcastle, thing just keep getting worse!

If we continue on this downwards spiral he might actually not sign a contract for footballing reasons!

Riduculous booking. Yes he's frustrated but thats twice in a couple of weeks he's been lucky to stay on the pitch through petulance. Getting a 3 match ban wouldn't help anyone. He seemed to go to shit after that.

I think we saw a passionate Rooney who wanted to win the game. In the second half we had Everton on the back foot and couldnt find the killer pass. The yellow card was harsh, i thought the referee had a poor game, some decisions he took was a real surprise.

Rooney, Janujaz, RvP...the only players showing much of anything over the past few months.

The rest are either hiding or seriously underperforming. It's a pathetic display from the reigning champions.

I just don't see him signing a new contract, he's one of the few (if not the only) player(s) who looks motivated and I guess you have to ask yourself why that is....? and then what are his motives....?

He's a cracking player and I would hate to loose him, especially on a free.

Seems to be playing every minute of every game in RvPs absence. Played both games for England too iirc. Needs a rest (not that we have a choice in the matter, mind).

I think this "little" rest could help him, Moyes said two weeks ago that he is planning to rest him soon anyway, so this could do him good I think.

What impresses me about Rooney, when you actually attend a game and not be dictated to by what he tv cameras want you to see/or are covering...is just how much work he does off the ball. Always running, chasing...trying to create space, hustling....he really works hard for the team. Brilliant player..the best "signing" Moyes made this summer!!

Playing like the team struggling is a personal insult to him and thank feck he is! I was wrong to want him gone, there, I said it. Now I'm going to gargle with bleach.

(He is still a cnut, but I suppose at least he's our cnut)

Thing is though for me he's clearly looked better playing as the front man, in both the games this week where he's dropped back following the switch with kagawa and Welbeck he seems to have lost the impact he was having. He was looking tired as well so although its come at a bad time he was going to have to get a rest eventually. But yeah it's going to be interesting what happens when rvp is back because I think he's looking better right up top, but they can't both play there.

Excellent video as usual MoneyMay! Rooney has had a superb season for us so far. There have been a lot of other star performers in the league but I feel many of them wouldn't do as well in our set up. Rooney has done a great job for us even when his team mates haven't played well, taking on the role of creator and also scorer at the same time.

If he can somehow score more goals which he is capable of, we'll be laughing when RVP comes back. Obviously without a proper supply force in the team it does make it that much more difficult.

His touch has been more consistent this season and I think, if he continues in this form, we could say that this is the best Rooney we have seen. His set pieces have improved greatly, his touch is back (not that it was lost), and his passing and shooting are both on point.

I'd have to agree with that - seems to play better as a 9. Not just the goals but he knows when to drop and when to push forward always keeping the defence guessing. Essentially I think it's very difficult to fit both him and RvP in the same team - especially with a non-functioning midfield behind them.

So can we put to bed this thing that Rooney has a poor touch and short pass? Saw so much of that shit being spouted this summer as for reasons to sell him. Oh if I only had the patience to go back into this thread 5 months ago and pick out the drivel people were saying about his abilities.

I would say that his touch and passing are inconsistent, but by default he has a good touch and very good passing. There's definitely a case to be made that this could be his best season for us. All that he needs now is the consistency from now until the end of the season.

Lets be fair though 5 months ago that was not the same Rooney we have today.

Obviously his conflict with fergie affected him, he probably lost morale and that really showed. At times last season he could hardly control a ball or do anything with it.

Now though we are seeing the true Wayne Rooney, which can only be a good thing for us.

This run of poor results isn't going to have Rooney gagging to sign on again is it.
And as of January he'll have a worrying 18months left on the contract.

So, was he given a bit more license to come deep in the second half tonight? I only ask because when he's played with RVP before this season i always thought he looked like he was sticking up top (of course still behind RVP) more than usual. I mean, when RVP came on tonight he was dropping right back into midfield and even receiving it from the centre backs at times. I actually prefer it when he plays like this as when he drops that deep he provides an extra option to pass to in the middle and gives himself a chance to look up and pick a pass. It also fecks with the defenders a bit because it makes it difficult for them to decide who is picking him up.

So, yeah have i imagined it that he hasn't been playing that deep when he's been with RVP before this season, or am i right in thinking that he did it in the second half tonight and he should probably do that more?

Here we go again (if true, note source):

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is refusing to discuss a contract extension with the club, according to Goal.com.

The report claims that Rooney and his agent Paul Stretford are not willing to negotiate on a potential extension to his current contract at Old Trafford which is set to expire after 2014-15 season.
United are willing to offer the forward a four-year deal which could see former Everton player pocket a sum of £52m in wages over the course of his new contract. According to the speculated figures, the Red Devils are not offering any improvement on his current wage of £250,000-a-week.
"Wayne is resisting any and all attempts from the club to talk about his contract situation. He knows, more than anything, that with his contract running down and in the form that he is in, he holds all the aces," a source told Goal.com.
Rooney and his representatives are exploring all possible opportunities and are well aware of interest from other clubs in England as well as Europe with Chelsea, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain reportedly showing interest in acquiring his services during the summer transfer window.

Rooney is just one goal short of a milestone 150 goals and has 291 appearances for United in the Premier League. He is also their top scorer this season with eight goals in the league.

Rooney made his debut for Everton in 2002 under David Moyes. After putting up impressive performances for the Toffees, he signed for United at the age of 18 in 2004.
Following the appointment of Moyes as manager at Old Trafford, Rooney tried to engineer a move away from the club. Chelsea and Arsenal attempted to sign the England international in the summer but United strongly refused to sell their star player considering the Blues and the Gunners as serious title contenders.
Rooney had handed in a written transfer request in 2010 only to take a u-turn and sign a new contract. It was believed that he wanted the club officials to offer him increased wages following which he eventually signed.

It's interesting how the perception changes. In 2010 when he first agitated to leave/for a new contract I think a lot of people believed that the power was with him, as we needed him to stay more than he needed us. Last season, when there was talk of him going, a lot of people felt the opposite, that with RvP firing, we could afford to let him move on. This season the pendulum appears to have swung back again, where people feel that given the struggles we're having, we really need him to stay (which might mean a bigger contract).

For what it's worth I think that having won many of the fans back over and the Fergie issue having calmed, he'll sign a new deal before the end of the season.

Not so sure myself, might be a game of poker going on between the club and Rooney, if he still wants to leave the club and believe the club will be forced to sell him if he does not extend.

Personally, I believe the club sits with most of the cards though. He is contracted until summer 2015, and we don't need the £20m or so we will get for him now. We can afford to let him run his contract down, he is 30(?) In 2015, and can't demand the same contract as he can get now.

Yeah, possibly so. Plus the one unknown is how he'd react if we didn't qualify for the CL, which people probably weren't considering as a potential factor during the summer.

I will be surprised if we didn't finish top 4.

The pendulum is very much where it was last season. If Rooney is bent on leaving, he should be sold ASAP. No player is bigger than this club & no player has the right to always seek attention & disrupt the spirit of the other team mates. I hope this is not true.....Rooney owes the fans so much than to dilly-dally again with his contract.

He will definitely be considering his options. I think he will make a more informed decision in the summer.

Talksport just previewed some of Thursday's back pages, and the Mirror are gearing up for January with a new Rooney to Chelsea rumour.

Save the trees!

If he stays, fantastic. If he leaves I wouldn't be surprised or angry since it's been on the cards so long. Hope he does stay but if he doesn't we'll have had long enough to prepare for it.

First The Mirror said RVP wanted out and now their going to run with Rooney to Chelsea?

Interesting paper.

I'm still thinking he will go this season, it's worked out pretty much perfect for him so far and he now holds all the cards he didn't before.
