Wayne Rooney | 2012-14 Performances

Excellent again today, at least Real Madrid might give us a big fat cheque for him in the summer now. :(

Absolutely essential to our team right now. He's looking effortlessly creative with his passing, setting the standard with his attitude and really putting in the effort as well. He's dragging us through games while other players continue to underperform. Both our goals today were due to him making his own luck.

Just imagine where we'd be without him? That's a scary thought.

Brilliant today and carried us once again. Reminds me of the season before we bought RVP. Sadly, we wont feck all that year too.

I don't think I've ever seen him play better. Anyone else agree? In 09/10 and 11/12 he was primarily a goalscorer and in 10/11 he had a very good second half of the season.

This season he's scoring and playmaking for fun. But more impressive this season has been his consistency. He's putting in 7 and 8 out of 10 performances every week. He's lacked this in his career at times when he could go missing in patches during a season.

Getting the best from Rooney has definitely been one of the biggest positives of Moyes' reign.

He was really good today, and is really excellent this season without a doubt, and I think the reason for that is obvious, he definitely looks much fitter than he was in last few season. He looks more agile and stronger when using his body IMO, that's why we are seeing much less poor first touches and losing the possession from him in tight situations. His consistency is back, and that was his biggest problem.

So PSG for £20m isn't the preferred option anymore then no?

ReactionCafe. There aren't many options that can be taken seriously on here. Rooney is a fantastic player, he was poor last season but that shouldn't have signalled historical revisionism.

Even Sultan was calling for his head back then iirc.

He's fecking outstanding at the moment.

The people who were saying 'just get rid of him for £20m...it doesn't matter, he's gone too far this time'. Idiots.

It's hugely important we tie him down now, he's carrying this team even more with the absence of van Persie. If he's not scoring, he's creating, if he isn't creating he's running back 50 yards to tackle someone. It's great to watch, just wish the rest of them would elevate their game a bit for the cause!

I doubt any sane person wanted to sell him for £20m, at the time he wanted to go so it's understand why supporters wanted him out.

Moyes was full of praise for the 28-year-old but refused to be drawn on when exactly the club will open talks over a new deal, with the forward out of contract in 2015 and having tried to leave for Chelsea during the summer.

"I don't really know," the Scot replied when asked by the press on his progress. "We are fine and we are moving on from the summer and it will get done in good course. The appropriate people will talk when the time is right.

We won't sell. We won't get too much for him next summer anyway and we've seen how he performs even when he really wants out. I think we'll take the hit and let him go on a free when he's 30 rather than sell him.

Yep. All through the summer I maintained that having him for two more years (possibly two of his best years before he hits 30) will be more beneficial than cashing in at £20-30m.

The best thing at the moment is that Mourinho in practice isn't as convincing as he was 9 years ago...hopefully something which can get into the head of Wayne Rooney, especially with Moyes being very good to him in his time at the club. Constantly defending him and always giving him the chances even when he wasn't actually playing very well despite the obvious efforts. Now both the effort and the quality is there, and the context of Moyes' comments regarding van persie have been proved right. With him injured we've really needed Wayne Rooney...it doesn't mean he's second fiddle, it means he can do so much that we really need him to step up when other great players are out.

The lingering problem is his agent. I'm fully convinced that Wayne Rooney remains a naive indecisive man who has been led by agents since he became a known name. God knows how much Wayne Rooney has made for this man, or how much more he makes for him!

Another thing that he has to think about, is that when he's 30 and his contract is out, there won't exactly be teams running out for his signature, as good as he is. He'll have probably 1 or 2 more years in top form after that before he starts declining a bit, so he might just realize he may as well stay longer. Here's hoping!

It's quite worrying how absolutely dog shit we would be if he does leave. Great player and we are lucky to have him, regardless of the shit we have had from him in the past. Will he sign a contract when we are so poor and not improving?

Apart from his form he is looking mean and lean.....it's now a bit silly for opposition fans to chant "you fat b*****"

I reckon if we're offered anything more than 20m we should take it and use it to buy Ba or Cisse.

Oh wait, it's Nov, thought we were still back in August.

Get the fecker on a new long term deal ASAP. And give him the armband.

I get the sense from watching him that all the talk about the likes of Messi, Ronaldo and now Bale pisses him off. At 28 if imagine he's looking at the last chapter of his career and wants to make sure he leaves a lasting legacy. Hence looking for players to help us win on the biggest stage.

Seems on a mission to prove himself at the moment, hopefully it continues and he doesn't pick up an injury.

His technique is perfect, he doesn't hit them too high so the balls wouldn't take longer to reach Valencia and therefore the LB would be able to close him up. Sort of mid height but fecking precise.

Just everything about them are perfect, Scholes-esque. Right pace, right direction, right height, right weight, right spin, right everything. Enough to beat the defender, but soft enough to make it easy to control too.

I cannot believe some people wanted Chelsea to sign him.

Never wanted him to go to Chelsea, but I am ashamed that I wanted us to sell him. I always knew he had the ability, and always knew he'd probably go somewhere and be brilliant, but I was just annoyed that he wanted to leave. Never did I want him out on an ability basis anyway.

I'm so glad Moyes has got him on his side, and for all the mistakes he may have made, he's done a fantastic one for us here.

Yeah, hopefully we pick it up and mount a bit of a title challenge because he'll definitely want to leave if we don't make champions league, and if we barely scrape the top 4 and don't look like challenging, then I wouldn't blame him for wanting to leave.

I was the same, if Rooney were to go, only abroad would have been the "best" solution for me at the time. You cannot allow your direct competition to sign such a great player. That would have been suicide.

Hes still a brilliant fecker.

Such a shame we didn't sign him, league would be well and truly walked! Shouldn't really have been able to play today though! :nono:

Can bitch all we want about how poor our summer was and bringing in a lump like Fellaini but boy did we do a bit good of business keeping Rooney. Imagine where we would be without him.

Not sure if serious.

Keeps up this form for the whole season then there is no reason why not. Big if of course, but him like this is up there with anyone else apart from the big 2 (Ibrahimovic, Suarez, Ribery, Aguero would probably be the others who are there too in top form). Amazing to think how many wanted him gone during the summer, and thought he lost his ability. I never wanted him gone even for a second, and only ever thought about a potential deal when that one rumour of like 20 mil and Mata and Luiz came out, because that is a great deal whatever way you look at it. Was hoping he'd stick around all the way through.
