Back in training today

I don't know if its just me or not, but he does look a lot slimmer, not that he was fit before, but he appears to have toned down IMO

I did that that to, he looks tall and leaner. Maybe it's just the photo.

Yep, looks nice a trim again. Ever since that US fitness camp he went to when he was injured in 2010 (the one which finally pulled him out of that post-World Cup slump), he seems to have had a better top level of fitness available to him. He still packs on the pounds a bit over the summer (and tbh I don't blame him for that), but when he is fully fit, he's more fully fit than he used to be able to be.

He'll certainly be begging Fergie for at least a spot on the bench on Sunday if he feels up to it.

I have a feeling that he'll make the bench. How many times down the years has SAF ruled him out, only for him to feature?

I just love the fact that with most players if they are of a larger frame and trim up, you worry about their strength on the ball etc but with Roo you know it won't make a difference because he is such a bloody agressive little bugger, I love tha kid.

Don't be fooled - he's got a spare Christmas pudding hidden under his hat.

Or somewhere else by the look of it.

He shouldn't play. He's absolutely crap for about 3 games after he returns from injury coupled with the fact that he's usually crap against Liverpool. Id ease him back slowly.

He explained in his bio that after the holidays, most players come back with an extra 2 or 3 pounds, he does every year, but that summer he came back with like 7 or 8 extra pounds which shocked him on the first day back to training.

I could care less if he plays this weekend, he'll likely be crap anyway. I'd rather we waited and gave him some time against West Ham.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him get some time Sunday though, Sir Alex isn't exactly a beacon of truth in his press conferences.

I'm expecting him to go into a run of good form now.

I hope he starts because I don't see us playing 3 CM and if RVP/Chicha start, I fear we'll give up a lot of control in midfield.

Even if he isn't involved, can't wait to get him back to playing. I think he'll be a monster for us rest of the season.

If he plays Sunday it'll only further convince me that he was never really injured. His record against Liverpool, combined with Hernandez's form means I'd rather he didn't start.

I think he was.

After last year and the 3 points dropped I doubt either Ferguson or Rooney would be daft enough to do it again. He'd find another way of punishing him.

Was different then as we had a lot of injuries. We played Rafael in midfield for a start. This year we had nearly everyone fit, there was less risk. We'll never know though so it's fairly pointless speculating.

Was fantastic in his first couple of games back last time round, but I agree that was very much an anomaly.

Funnily enough, I think we had the option of bringing him back against Liverpool earlier in the season and decided against it (starting Kagawa and Van Persie instead).

At home he's usually very good against them, last season for example. It's at Anfield where he's usual anonymous.

I think he will play, and indeed start the match. Fergie will come out and say to the press that Rooney trained so well today that it changed his mind.

The goal he scored last time, when evans (i think) slide tackled one of theirs was fkin top drawer. It was obviously ruled no goal because the ref gave the foul to them lot. What a hit that was!

Anybody else think that he we wasn't injured but rather had compassionate leave because of coleens sister? They seem a tight nite family and her sister dying must of devastated the family - we have seen Rooneys form tail off before from private matters, I wonder if fergie gave him some time off to be with Coleen In this tough time?

The sister died recently and he's back in the team, obviously he needs to do a few days training first to get back match fit.

Might be complete bs but it ties In with the stories of him apparently warming up fine and stuff.

No. Why lie? It makes no sense. We'd have just said he's been given compassionate leave.

it's crazy how people seem to rather believe any other possibility rather than the simple fact that Rooney injured himself in training.

what's next? couldn't play because he had to audition for x factor?

I guess it's just possible that SAF wanted to rest him for some winnable games, then have him back at full-throttle for the run-in.

I agree, the Van Persie-Hernández pairing is very risky against a team that will likely pack the midfield. I'd definitely go with Kagawa instead of Chicho even if Rooney's not fit enough.
