Valencia has missed those balls being pinged out to him since Scholesy used to be the main supplier of them.

"When I came I thought he had gone a bit soft," Moyes told MUTV. "I thought he had to get back to being a bit more aggressive. We are challenging him to be that at the moment because when he is, he is a handful to play against."

"This is a big year for him with the World Cup and he would say, by his standards, 'last season wasn't my best season'," said Moyes. He has set out his own stall to say he is going to improve on that."

"He's played really well. I'm asking him to step up again, I want him to keep getting better."

Interesting comments from Moyes. Also, Carragher reckons Rooney is as good as Dalglish in his prime.

Been impressed with him, I was calling for us to get rid to stop there being any problems in the dressing room but he has put his head down and is looking good. He looks a little leaner, he seems to have regained the spring in his step so he is beating players with more ease again. Those few clips resemble more of the old Wayne.

Read the title of his article.
Given the headline is "Jamie Carragher on Wayne Rooney: ...", it's safe to say Carragher didn't write the title unless he often refers to himself in third person. Editors choose the headline, the article is the content of the writer and nowhere does it say he's as good as Dalglish, or as good as Dalglish in his pomp.

The alternative version by BeardedGenius is also pretty good(in reference to MUTV's Rooney 200 graphic)

Harsh but funny

Who would have thought that at the start of the season, the player who wouldn't give up for us against City at 4-0 would be Rooney?

Anyone who's questioned his commitment are fools. Felt sorry for him today.

Bullied by Kompany for 55 minutes after we left him on his own, but he's the one player who actually looked annoyed at our shocking performance and looked great when we started attacking more. Shame the game was all over by then. 4-1 flatters us.

Great free kick..

Games like this I'm actually glad we kept him... Kept going when everyone around him couldn't be asked

This is why it has bugged me when people have questioned his commitment in games and by those who say he can't be arsed. Only one who looked like he gave a damn today. Very good yet again. Easily our player of the season so far

Kompany who IMO, on his day ( today was one of it) dominates even the best of forwards, did that to Wayne today. Colossal performance from the City captain but that freekick from wayne was masterful. Good to see he's still looking sharp.

Don't pretend Rooney played like he did today every game last season, he had plenty of games last year where we was lazy and half arsed.

I genuinely believe that despite the result, Rooney was easily the best player on the pitch today. In the second half for certain.

He's our best player. Such a rare combination of ability and determination.

Class act today. A shame he blazed that chance over. Could easily have even a cheeky. 4-3 on any other day where we weren't getting reamed in the pipes.

He had his head piece yanked off twice by scrappy defending and I'd be going full Holyfield on anyone scratching at my headwound like that so fair play to him.

Good today particularly in the last 20 minutes. Deserved the goal. Deserved better performances by his teammates.

He wasn't incredible but he probably was our best player, even though that wasn't difficult. Was up against a sublime Kompany and had a midfield providing absolutely nothing so was forced to try and create himself.

I agree he was our best player - the only player (other than maybe Vidic) who seemed to have the right attitude, quite ironic considering we know he doesn't want to be here any more.

He yet again showed his rekindled ability of taking on and beating his man!

Yeah, credit to him for trying, but I didn't think he was our best player. His passing was very sloppy just outside the penalty area.

Who was then?

It was Rooney, he was the only player who was trying then he topped that off with a lovely (but in the games context pointless) freekick. He was not amazing but among our players he was the best.

That has been great to see. The essence of Wayne Rooney, that power and pace, ability to get past players.

Apologies, thought I was in a different thread. Rooney was our best player, but that doesn't say much.
