He acknowledged the fans though, which was fair enough.
Incredible football really, considering we were talking about the Rooney +10m for Mata deal a few short weeks ago. Startling turnaround. Mata can't even start for a team that's 6th so he's shit!
Seriously though, the experience of a 3x CL finalist was lost on here with many, even cutting through his dickheadedness
what a prick. hard to think on your feet and all but its quite clear he still has a chip on his shoulder through some misguided notion the club wronged him. he wasnt playing well enough for the team last year and van persie was, simple as.
He acknowledged the fans though, which was fair enough.
"I am very proud to get my 200th Manchester United goal. I am delighted to be back playing.
"It is a good result, as the first game in the Champions League is so important.
"I am concentrating on my football, I have got my head down and worked hard. I am delighted with the way I have come back.
"The fans have been brilliant. It is great the reception I get here.
"Hopefully I can repay them with those type of performances.
"It is a big learning curve for the manager. Tonight was all about getting the win.
"It has gone quickly my time here. I am really pleased to score 200 goals for a club like Manchester United, it is a great honour."
You sound like my ex girlfriend, "Just tell me you love me, is that too much to ask!??"
Unrealistic I know but I had hoped he might do that of his own accord as a way of deflecting the 'are you happy' questions. Respond with a 'concentrating on my football and great to hear the fans in good voice tonight' or something. As it was he said the right things, but only when asked directly about the fans response, when clearly he can't really say anything else.
I know it's a bit nitpicky, just in the context of the interview would have been great if he'd acknowledged the fans just of his own accord, given that they have been very forgiving to him.
Yes but actually that might not actually be the initial problem, the initial problem was revealing the verbal transfer request in public rather than simply asking him if he wanted to leave to make it official and then making it public if he did.
Is it just me that thinks he's a total dick for not just saying he's happy being a United player?
Is it a lot to ask?
Or maybe ferguson was fed up dealing with this shit again after the INITIAL initial problem: that the cnut already tried to leave once, embarrassing the club, manager and players by saying we aren't ambitious enough for him.Yes but actually that might not actually be the initial problem, the initial problem was revealing the verbal transfer request in public rather than simply asking him if he wanted to leave to make it official and then making it public if he did.
A mad Rooney with a point to prove is a good Rooney.
It was a PR answer. If he'd admitted to being unhappy over the Summer, the papers would have had a field day. If he said he'd been happy all along, everybody would have known he was lying and he would have come across badly.
He basically said nothing of any note, but the fact he sounded irritated by the way the reporter asked his questions means that people are reading more into it than it deserves.
He won it himself and beat the keeper so it's forgiveable. Anyone else see that happening as soon as he chose not to pass to van Persie? The thing is it sort of seemed like he was trying to cross it to van Persie in the end rather than dragging his shot. If so it was seriously stupid.
Good to have him back though. Looks like he's continuing that trend of bringing his best form not long after wanting to leave. Wonder what that's about?
We may not like it but he does not want to be at our club and has made no secret about it. Why should he lie?
I want him to stay, am sad that he has fallen out of love with the club, but it it what it is. Credit to him for not letting that personal feeling and desire affect his professional performances. But I dont have any problem him not giving love proclamations to Manchester United if he does not feel it.
He did take to Facebook after being quiet for a spell to acknowledge the fans after the Chelsea game though.
It must have hurt hearing her say that to someone else.
It's a bit of shame really that he's clearly not happy with something at the club.
That interview is all the proof you need things are still up in the air behind closed doors.
Hope it gets sorted.
How do people seeing this play out?
I think he'll sign a new contract. How do people seeing this play out?
Anyone posted this yet?
Do we need to go through this shite again? Just sit back and watch and let it happen. Speculation as we've seen from gimpy caf fans turns into a drama fueled rage of bollocks making a fool of themselves.
How do people seeing this play out?
I don't know anything about his inner feelings and neither does anyone on this board. What I can tell though, is that his answer to the question was clearly rehearsed and therefore not necessarily indicative of the truth. He won't sign a new contract, we all know he will run this one down if that's what it takes. Do you think he is happy?

well if we take it right back the initial problem was wayne rooney releasing a public statement that questioned our ambition, in doing so questioning the ambition of an absolute god of football. so feck rooney and his sensitive nature. he was stropping around for months before that happened and was playing rubbish after christmas.
there is no argument that can be made in his favour other than him being a great player. amazing that hitting 200 goals is such an anti climax.
Didnt United state in the summer they had no plans to offer him a new one?
