The only way that could be true is if he was always angling for an improved contract. Which if anything is worse.

Totally agree. Wanting to leave for a new challenge etc i can just about understand, but kicking up a shit storm for a new contract is the work of an absolute fanny flap.

Paul Stretfords ears are burning....

How's about he wanted to leave because he wasn't playing and when he was he was being shunted into midfield, he had a private conversation with ferguson to air his grievances and ferguson told everyone then moyes said he was second choice to rvp...

I hate this "shunted to midfield" argument, he played maybe 4 games at the most in center mid. When he played well it was a Sir Alex master stroke, when he played poorly Sir Alex was terrible for constantly putting him out of position. He was almost never stuck out wide either, he played most of his games in the center behind RvP. His attitude and poor play are the reasons he was out of the team/getting subbed. Nothing else.

Yeah, a lot of people seem to think he wasn't starting despite being in immense form or something. The games he didn't play were because he most likely wasn't the best option, either through form or fitness.

Yes I'm fully aware I quoted him thanks.

Whether Broths was being serious or not is irelevent, his post was my chance to express my opinion that there seems to be a lot of Ronaldo ass kissing going on by people with very short memories.

It sounds like Brophs comments were tongue in cheek, but many others comments are not.

I stand by my point 100%. People shouldn't call one player disloyal while hero worshipping the biggest mercenary of all.

You responded seriously to a post laced with obvious sarcasm and irony.

For one glorious moment I thought that overhead kick of sorts of his was headed in last night. That would have been quite the stunning ending!

But it was not a written one.
I am not going to start defending Rooney, but if the request was made in the heat of an argument, it would mean nothing.

Indeed.

As an aside, that's why I always break up with girls via text message... it doesn't count unless it's in writing.

Yeah, Wayne hates playing in midfield.

"Really enjoying my new midfield role, always involved."

The boss:

"I was very pleased with Wayne's performance and very pleased by the reaction from the crowd," said Moyes. "That wasn't unexpected - I expected it.

"I told him I might only play him for 60 or 70 minutes and see how he was. But he worked back, he tackled and he was great. He closed two or three people down in the corner and the crowd realised the work he did.

"He was desperate to score and nearly scored with an overhead kick in injury time."

The manager added that he feels Rooney, the player he mentored at Goodison Park, is currently in prime condition for United, both mentally and physically.

"He's been great in training and anyone who has looked at him has seen a slightly leaner Wayne. I think Wayne has a positive mind at the moment. I don't think that needs to change. I think his attitude showed a lot tonight."

But it was the most obvious and easiest pass he could have played.

Yep, very stupid to take the shot on there. He was in the perfect position to roll it into RVP's path.

That's actually annoying watching it back. Van Persie in acres of space and he surely would've scored.

It was annoying watching it at the time. If he plays Van Persie in there we win the game. Simples.

It was a very easy save for Cech as well. Should have passed it but if it flies in the top corner we're all celebrating a top goal.

*Maybe Wayne wanted to score, to make some kind of point.
*Maybe RVP should really have passed to Wayne last Sunday (RVP's 2nd goal), so Wayne wanted to have a shot himself this time.

Who knows?

It was a good goal but in terms of better odds of scoring, RVP should definitely have passed to Rooney IMO.

Or maybe he there and then thought he had a decent chance to score and didn't the space van Persie had.

Which is the more likely one.

These are the kind of decisions you have to make in a split second during football games.

The Liverpool match will need our attack to operate better as a unit, Rooney obviously set out to make a statement on the pitch yesterday however that wont' fit the bill against Liverpool.

In the Swansea game Rooney made run diagonally from left to right from the back of Van Persie. It's understandable he would not have spotted Rooney's run plus the left back may have got a tackle in.

The game last night, Rooney would have spotted Van Persie in acres of space yet he chose to shoot.

Wayne Rooney in 'greedy' shock.

That was pretty much the only time in the match I got angry at Rooney, it was very obvious that he should've passed to RvP. Oh well, players make the wrong decision all the time.

Rooney should have passed it there, Van Persie should have played it last week - there were times last night when both Rooney/Van Persie passed when maybe a shot would have been better.

Not sure why everybody thinks Van Persie would have 'surely' scored anyway. Although a great striker, his clear-cut chances conversion isn't as great as people think. He's been guilty of missing a lot of great chances for us, as well as scoring when we wouldn't have expected him too.

Generated half way through last season.

Anyway, it's definitely far too simple to just assume Van Persie would have scored it, and then even that we would have won the game. Every decision made in the game, in the build up to the game, what the player ate the night before and if he's been up with diarrhea - everything can have an effect on the outcome.
It's pointless putting so much emphasis on one decision made in a game.

At the time I did think he should have passed to RVP, but it wasn't as if he completely wasted the chance by shooting completely wide. Would RVP have scored? Who knows. Can never say he definitely would have though.

From the GIF, you can clearly see that as soon as Rooney receives the ball, he takes the touch to line up for the shot. He obviously didn't see/realise the space RVP had as his mind was only on scoring.

fecking ridiculous to think that he purposely didn't slip RVP in just because of Swansea last week.

Loads of strikers shoot when they should pass. It happens every game and youse are only analysing it because it was Rooney.

That was stand out moment along with Welbeck miss in the box, and Lampard's hand ball. It was so clear path to Van Persie that it had me screaming at the TV.
