If Rooney leaves on a free in 2 years time then I have no issue with it. I would have issues with selling him to Chelsea for 40m.

11 years of quality service is money well spent

Absolutely. We can't afford to sell him to Chelsea this season for any price because retaining the league will be hard enough.

BTW Was this important person Mourinho was talking about Gerrard by any chance?

If anything, Brophs should be the one most insulted here, that people actually believe he'd post something so stupid on purpose.

People forget that Ronaldo acted like a cnut to get his Madrid move. Rooney hasn't actually said feck all, yet he's disloyal. Ronaldo on the other hand gets worshipped like some Demi God.

I'd love for us to sign Ronaldo, but to call him loyal is very shortsighted IMO.

I can't believe this is still happening.

The big thing to watchout for this season will be the difference between his relationship with SAF and his relationship with Moyes. If he can put the Fergie strife behind him and get on well with Moyes whilst putting in good performances and feeling valued by the club then there's no reason why he can't be here for a long time to come. I was one of the ones telling him to feck off when Fergie said he asked to leave again, but I also said at the time that it was extremely short sighted of Fergie to do that with Moyes coming in. As great as he was and with all the praise he deserves, him and a player not getting on is not reason enough for the player not to be allowed to continue at the club if he's important enough. If SAF was still the boss then I'd be supporting him 100% if he got rid, but Moyes is the man now and if he wants to keep Rooney then so do I.

But to look at it the other way... say we could get £40m for him today and he's on £200k per week, then keeping him for those 2 years will cost us £600k per week. That's an extraordinary amount.

Or alternatively, imagine if we didn't already have him, but had the chance to buy him for £40m (on £200k per week or whatever) but he would only sign a 2 year contract - would you think that was value for money?

I dont ever recall anyone coming out and slamming Moyes with his man management skills so hopefully thats a good sign

My post wasn't directed at any individual (mr Brophs), I just find it odd that so many fans on here forget how badly Ronaldo acted to get his move away.

Do it again, do it again!

fecking hell Gareth, let me spare you the misery and point out to you that Brophs' post was a complete piss take.

I prefer to see it as - A world class player playing for us for two more years, hopefully winning trophies along the way. Rather than a world class player playing for Chelsea and helping them along to possible glory.

Not a difficult choice

You quoted him.

It's still there:

Surely the test is how he responds to being dropped or subbed off as was necessary last season?

Sir Alex rightly didn't feel that Rooney was meeting his potential i believe and hoped for a reaction. The player [unless sold] has this season to demonstrate to Moyes that he wont' find cause to reach the same conclusions from his owns personal experience.

What if the money enabled us to buy a Ronaldo or a Bale (this is hypothetical). Would it be so simple a choice then? If not, what about a Mata, a Fabregas or even a Fellaini?

We have the money.

Selling to Chelsea is just not a choice that we should even consider. Selling him outside the PL would be fine though

I love how the media and Jose have assumed Rooney is the one 'deciding' his future. We just aren't selling to Chelsea, transfer request or no transfer request.

My thinking is that Moyes will value Rooney higher than SAF did at the end. It's based on nothing but pure guessing though.

If that's the case and Rooney repays that value with performances to match then being subbed or dropped due to non performance shouldn't be an issue.

. Fair play Brophs, assumed nobody would miss that but seemingly some people forgot their Weetabix this morning.

Yes I'm fully aware I quoted him thanks.

Whether Broths was being serious or not is irelevent, his post was my chance to express my opinion that there seems to be a lot of Ronaldo ass kissing going on by people with very short memories.

It sounds like Brophs comments were tongue in cheek, but many others comments are not.

I stand by my point 100%. People shouldn't call one player disloyal while hero worshipping the biggest mercenary of all.

feck this shit. I'm going to eat my weetabix and learn about irony. Spastic out.

I dont personally think what you said was unreasonable. It's difficult to convey and interpret tone in writing, Brophs could have meant exactly what he wrote. I was just pointing out that you did quote him.

Leave Garethw alone!

Thanks mate.

Don't worry I can take the cyber bullying on the chin, I'm not part of the Redcafe "cool gang" so I expect nothing less.

My fecking phone will not let me show smiley's or anything so I'd just like to point out that I am not actually being serious before I get even more abuse :-)

Can't you just spaz out for a bit? I feel bad for having joined in the piss-taking out of somebody who is happy to take it and see the funny side. This is no fun anymore.
