One thing we learnt last night, Wayne is without a doubt the solution to our midfield problem, if he wants to be.

I think he's just so stupid that all he wants is to be cuddled and cheered in order to make him happy. He's basically a baby.

We definitely did not learn that last night.

Maybe. I don't think last night will have any impact on whether he'll stay, though. But it will, I suspect, make him less apprehensive about what happens if he is forced to stay.

Please elaborate on exactly how he is shitting over the club and the fans. By quietly, privately, expressing some dissatisfaction to his manager? By not kissing his badge or telling journalists he wishes to play for us forever?

He may well wish to leave, but if that, for you, is tantamount to shitting on the club and the fans, perhaps you have proved your own point about football fans.
Perhaps if it was one time, but twice? Claiming we did not match his ambition the first time leaves no leeway for even the 'politest' manner of asking to leave a second time.

I have held my opinion of the situation, regardless of his recent performance and the fact that time is running out which means it's looking likely he will stay... not lambasting him in july, then offering my arse the minute he plays a good football match and when his sale looks less likely.

Disgusting animal is our Wayne, and not just because he shagged a grandma... Heh heh heh...

Who does Mourinho think he is giving him an ultimatum.
He hasn't publicly come out and stated his intentions to us but yet he should to Mourinho because he's getting a bit tetchy? feck off.

Doesn't that, in itself, probably impact the outcome? He sees if he stays he'll play, the fans will get behind him and the world will not end. So he doesn't further attempt to force a move. So a move away becomes less likely.

He hasn't shat on the club. There really is no other way of looking at it. Fans may feel scorned or frustrated at his stance, that is fair enough, or to be expected at least. But I'm glad the match goers on the whole are being so sensible about it.

In the first half Cleverley fired in a pass to Rooney who was in a tight space between two defenders. The ball was a rocket and his first touch killed it beautifully, exquisite control when you have a second look given how hard the pass was. Technical excellence. he got another touch in and got a shot off. Not the greatest shot but he was under tight pressure but that first touch was something else.

So bullish when people were fed up with him for wanting to leave twice, now it's all about him performing well on the pitch whilst he can keep shitting on the club and fans.

Football supporters, not the most intelligent and steadfast type of people. Lolzies.
A few people around me were singing his name, they were the also the same people calling him a scouse bastard at the Swansea game.

The commitment and enthusiasm was nice to see but... that wasn't some world class performance or anything.
I doubt anyone thought it was. But it was still a decent performance, maybe the best for our team, and it was a nice surprise as he's hardly played any football for a while and we know he's a slow starter who gets better once he's had a few games. He was always trying to get on the ball, gave it his all (it wasn't a half arsed performance like some had predicted) which was really as much as we could expect from him. Well a goal would've been nice, but overall it was a good performance by Rooney last night.

Hopefully he still gets sold.

One good performance and everyone is carressing the tip of this cocknose again. It really is true, score a few goals and all is forgiven in football (or in this instance, just play a decent match without scoring).
In fairness, myself and quite a few of us in here have been consistent about what we want, and that is that he doesn't get sold. I doubt everyone is just changing their mind on the basis of last night.

Tracking back, winning the ball. Excellent passing. Thats what we need in the middle of the pitch.

Pretty sure Carrick and Cleverley demonstrated both of those things... it was the invention we lacked, and that was throughout the team.

We need a lot more then those things listed in the middle of the pitch however.

A few people around me were singing his name, they were the also the same people calling him a scouse bastard at the Swansea game.

You'll notice that during july, most of the caf would shed a negative light on every quote or newspaper story about the Rooney situation... as the closing of the window nears and the stance of the club seems to be unchanging, the same majority will flood the thread shooting down the few remaining 'disbelievers' who refuse to twist and turn their way out like them balletpanties wearing lambs.
Now suddenly he has been a reasonable misunderstood vagrant who we could sympathize with were we in his shoes and all the newspaper stories were wrong and lying.

Same shit with the Moyes appointment, half of the caf fervently against it, then when it looked a done deal... "I hold my hands up, I was one of those who were miffed about the idea of Moyes running our club, but after reading this article about his Rambo training methods, I am starting to warm..." Or "Blanked a journo when asked about Rooney, looks like he might have what it takes..."

I thought Cleverley had his best game in a while, there's nothing spectacular about him but he was neat as usual and was more disciplined positionally than he often is. Rooney was very involved, committed and was threatening on occasions but only De Gea and Van Persie had lower pass completion rates (I generally hate stats and yet now I'm bloody using them) so I'm not sure you can say his passing was 'excellent.'

Yeah, fair point, it probably will stop him doing something dramatic in an attempt to force a move but what I mean is that if we said to him that a bid had been accepted, I reckon he'd be on the road to London within minutes.

Definitely. I'm sure he'd still rather go. But I'm encouraged that it looks like everyone can be professional and get along. I had my doubts, at which point it looked like maybe he should go. On last night's evidence I hope he's staying.

We should put in a bid for Mata outright, not as part of a swap.

You're talking rubbish, there are plenty who don't buy in to the emotional, tabloid fuelled, soap opera that has people accusing Rooney of shitting on the fans and club, despite not having said a single word to the press since about May.

And I don't see anyone making claims about their intelligence, some people just like watching good players play for their football club.

cant deny that he got his head down and played well which is more than i expected to be honest, even when he was happy here he often took a while to get going early season and he looks in good shape too which cant always be said about him so fair fecks
I may be paranoid given the circumstances but he didnt look to be enjoying it very much though and he still continues to be silent on the issue which is odd now given the length of time this has been going on
I reckon he's still getting his head around the fact he's not going to get what he wants, but as long as it doesnt effect his form or his teammates i'm not bothered about that. he'll come around once the windows shut and the season gets into full swing

His pass completion rate isn't going to be as high as players who are facing play and attempting safe passes all the time rather than trying to be creative. Keeping possession is good and all but you need to do more to win games. Rooney was one of the few players on show trying to win the game in what was a defensive match.

Agreed, my argument was about Livewire suggesting Rooney showed that he'd be great to play in midfield. His completion rate would go up but United would lose his ability to be creative and to take risks. He had a very good game as an attacking player and that's where he should stay, be that alongisde Van Persie, behind him or out wide.

Until the transfer window shuts he's effectively a schrodinger's football player, he's both ours to support and a deserter cnut at the same time. I can't for the life of me figure why any fan of ours would cheer his name, I'll support him but I won't give him any adoration. From here on on its just a business transaction with him

After watching his performance last night I have to coincide that he is going nowhere.
I am not happy with his advisers this summer or the fact he has not come out and said either way what HE wants to do.
United with a semi happy Rooney playing for us, has to be better than a happy Rooney playing for Chelsea.

Was just about to post the same thing, does not stop Chelsea putting a bid in.
Rooney needs to open his mouth and tell us what he really wants to do.
He has chosen NOT TO put in a transfer request. The key words are 'chosen' and 'not'. It tells us enough imo

Great description

Wasn't there some story a few weeks back about Rooney being eligible to a certain % of the transfer fee providing he doesn't hand in a transfer request?

It's a bit cringeworthy watching drones at the match shouting 'Rooney, Rooney, Rooney' while pointing at him. Awful chant.

Sent from my armchair.

I honestly could not give a shit if he wants to be here, if he's a nice lad or if he's the biggest prick ever.

As long as he puts his all in on the pitch and keeps performing I'm happy to have him here. Someone for Welbeck or Giggs I have a genuine affection for and hope they do well, but with Rooney it's just I know he's a fantastic player who makes the team better.

Just keep working Wayne. And stay.

You don't feel that not putting in a transfer request a few days away from the closing of the transfer window is putting it to bed?
The statement should come from Rooney and not someone like SSN. Is he really that busy he can't tweet something himself or release a statement on his website?
