If he does indeed stay put I think we're going to witness a very interesting dynamic between him and 'the club'.

For as long as he can remember, Wayne's always had an incredible freedom at United. The worst punishment he received for his various acts of (mild) stupidity was sitting out the odd game and he very rarely was benched due to form. For possibly the first time in almost a decade he will truly have to earn his place like everyone else, possibly even moreso. If he craves the move to Chelski as much as it seems then he is going to have to demonstrate that he's worth the hassle.

I think we're going to see a very different Rooney this season. I'm just not sure which one it is going to be...

Whatever happens in terms of Rooney's behaviour this season, if true, this is great news. Moyes and the Glazers have kept their responses largely in house, kept press briefings to a minimum and have simply got on with the job. This puts all concerned in a strong position to handle the new relationships that will need to develop over the coming months. If Rooney is the simple soul he appears, then Moyes will handle him and we can enjoy the fruits of his renewed efforts to impress.

I've been dying to write this: embarrassing for José & Chelsea. :D

I do.

He'll only go to teams which he thinks are a step up, or whom he thinks will give him more money. City won't bother now with their strikeforce, likewise for PSG who signed big upfront. Barcelona got Neymar, Bayern will probably wait it out for Lewandowski. He won't go to Arsenal or Tottenham as that's too much of a step down and he won't get more money. Madrid clearly want Bale and Bale alone.

He's not getting his move if it isn't Chelsea. Quite clearly.

Yeah! Who the hell would want Wayne Rooney in their squad, eh??!! I mean, not a single big club from the continent would want to buy Rooney.

A fecking apology or just anything from the little twat would go some to put the supporters back on side.

Something tells me we won't get one. He truly believes he's been wronged here, even though its his fecking fault he's in this situation through a lack of care for himself resulting in shite performances.

Shamefully stolen from RAWK

This Rooney hating has gone too far now! I'm outside Old Traffod and there's a guy burning small effigies of Rooney and selling them to fans!

Oh, hang on... Sorry!! It's a baked potato stand...

Reports in France of a possible Modric + money vs Rooney deal, any English source for this ?

It's funny how a load of people on here genuinely won't see it that way.
It's quite simple.
You can't compare this with our Fabregas hunt.
You can however slightly compare it with our van Persie hunt.

The difference being the desires of the player in question.

I'd start him against swansea to give him an early chance to redeem himself, this is a world cup year and i don't think he'd want to spend the entire season sulking.

Well a modicum of credit to him and his reformed character if he doesn't sulk until Christmas, nevertheless we the club isn't running an outreach programme for Rooney's sole benefit, he should wait in line which is very arguably his due.

Oh and i must echo the recognition and agreement with #07's post, summed matters up nicely.

Wait, why has everyone taken that Guardian article as a definite sign that he is staying? We've always said he wasn't for sale. Nothing has changed.

 Why were people posting Mail links and then posting subsequent discussion on it's content...

This place is bizarre sometimes. When the window shuts and he's still a United player I will believe it.
This will not end well at all. You should just sell him for as big as fee possible and move on. Most in here seem to think he's shit anyway, so why the worry that he will make Chelsea nailed on for the title? Now all season long it'll be Rooney v Moyes and who is Rooney going to sign for next season crap. Utd like all clubs are bigger then any one player.
Yeah, I'd probably not go by anything anyone has said in here. Probably the complete opposite. I mean, one poster going as far as to say Gary Neville (GARY feckING NEVILLE WHO PLAYED FOR THE CLUB) knew feck all about it. Which to me rings the 'yeah, the caf really doesn't have a clue at all' point home pretty hard.

would be surprised to see anybody rejoice at any news that he's staying. glad to keep him from Chelsea after mourinho said "its rooney or bust" yes, hope he returns to form; yes. but to be delighted by it as some are and some personal friends are (despite it not being anything concrete) is disappointing I think. the player has twice almost forced his way out of the club, questioned the ambition of not only the club but in doing so a man who is a thousand times the man rooney will ever be, and then when we responded with 2 titles in 3 years fending off city on the way and buying the leagues and one of the bundesligas best he threw a strop again. in this time, if rumours are to be believed he has flirted with the idea of leaving for our two closest and most bitter rivals for the title not to mention his moods dominating several iconic moments of this club when in reality the issue was himself being incapable of rising above it and earning his place and recapturing his form.

if he stays he has a long way to go before 'll ever respect him as a player and as much as its shoved down out throats that he's a "street footballer" and a player who just loves the game he's the ultimate epitome of a generation of footballers with skewed motivations, loyalty and a sense of entitlement not afforded to any person in any other job in the world. the anti role model for any young person kicking a ball today.

pretty much sums it up for me too.

I don't think he'll do that. If he doesn't get his move the most I can see him saying is something like "I never said anything. It was all paper talk. We had private discussions and I fully intend to honour my contract." Everyone will know it's bullshit, but it's the way the game is played, as often as not.
So what is the point of coming out and apologizing if 'everyone will know it's bullshit'? What is the point of even demanding an apology (if true) when he himself knows that the fans will not even believe it anyway?

I don't get it at all. If he tells the truth people will think its a lie. If he tells a lie people will think its a lie. If he deflects the attention then people see the worst in it and rant hysterically. It to me tells the sole reason why he hasn't bothered to release any personal press on the matter. If he goes out and starts banging in goals then nobody will really care. The really bitter and twisted people will still find reasons to tiss and boo and hate him.

It now seems that no w/c players are arriving, so letting one of the few already at the club go would be a huge risk.

Rooney's our figurehead, the most recognizable face at the club, and losing him without a Fabregas, Bale, or even Ronaldo to replace him, doesn't do much for our image, particularly after a summer of very public raised expectations.

Unity and team ethic will count for more in these uncertain times than a false perception held by journalists who should know better or others who have little regard for the club in any event.

What i found more intriguing was that you still believe Rooney to be world class, i just wonder how many others here still maintain that view?

Maybe you feel that were eh to move he has the potential to be a world class No 9 but a one of the very best No 10s in global football?

I don't get why this public image stuff is considered to be so incredibly important: only the opportunistic media, kneejerk fans and the most expedient of transfer targets would believe that a sale to Chelsea marks a power-shift or capitulation; why should the club look to appease such people?

What if the club merely decided that Chelsea's offer was irresistible? What if our management considered that Rooney was overvalued & took the cash? And there are other perfectly valid reasons for a sale besides there being a power-shift; are United now supposed to be more concerned about PR rather than realpolitik? Public image is just a facade in many cases; it's long-term thinking, not window-dressing, that matters most. Chelsea (or another nouveau riche club) having lots of money to spend is absolutely no reflection on Manchester United.

Im one of those that think Rooney on form and fully fit is world class.

Definitely world class, but I am not going to argue to the death if people don't think so. It's a fair assessment either way imo.

I have recieved a txt message telling me to put all i can afford on Rooney signing for Bayern. it's probably bollocks like, but i thought it was worth mentioning.

world class, definitely. A goal threat from pretty much anywhere.

I prefer Kagawa over Rooney playing behind the striker, but i would prefer more to have RVP and Rooney playing up there together, with a creative force like our Jap coming from behind and the flanks.

Gotze, Muller, Mandzukic, ribery, robben, pizarro....

how many players got more goals than rooney last season?

none

With Rooney as spearhead of that team... feck.

maybe Pep realize he got Thiago for the sake of it and now we are working a internal swap?

If someone can be bothered dig out some of my posts from last season in this thread.. Well before Fergie commented about Rooney wanting to leave. I was told he was off to Bayern by a lad who's brother knows Steven Gerrard. I posted it here anyway. Must have been around Christmas time.

Would laugh if it ended up true

I have been told from someone who's brother is friends with Gerrard that Rooney is off in the summer and Bayern is the destination of choice.

Not sure I believe it but thought I would share. I was told this a little bit ago so these stories of a move to Bayern now seem quite interesting.

My mistake. It was the start of May when I posted that but was told around Christmas. Obviously nothing was going on then and I thought it was bollocks so didn't say anything.
