"Sometimes you gotta lose to win"

Really, Roy? Not something I'd have imagined him saying as a player. Also, he says United have lost great players but we've never passed a great player onto a direct title challenger. Important difference, that.

To coin a Glasgow phrase, his face was tripping him when he first appeared, seems he can't resist having a pop.

Moyes might be right, I wanted to manage a different club on fifa but decided to wait and eventually I decided to stay and now I'm on the verge of the treble.

Disagree, certainly not to Chelsea.

I just can't see any way back for him and it has no positive effect on us if he stays. A Rooney that wants out is probably going to be fecking useless.

The distraction and backlash from the support will be disruptive too. I already heard songs about him today at Wembley which will no doubt be sung this season.

Confusion reigns over why Rooney was declared unfit for Sunday's Community Shield victory against Wigan Athletic, but is available for England's Wednesday friendly with Scotland on Wednesday. Moyes was neither confused or amused.
"I don't see why you think that's confusing. Tell me why you think that's confusing," he demanded.
"It's a big game for England," replied the reporter.
"It's a big game for Scotland!" Moyes responded, to cackles laughter, a la Ferguson. "You don't think I'm gonna send England a fit player, do you?" he joked.
"Wayne has trained and some of you might not like hearing this, but I didn't fall out with Wayne. Some of youse wrote complete untruths. Wayne trained with the reserves because it was at his asking. And in case you're wondering he played as a floating player [a forward who plays for whichever training team is in possession] so that he didn't get injured.
"So anybody who wrote anything else is misleading the readers."
When it was suggested Moyes was becoming weary talking about Rooney, he interjected.
"I'm quite enjoying talking about it because I'm hearing so many of you getting it wrong. I know most of you and I think to myself, you're a bit cleverer than that. But some of you aren't acting that way at the moment.
"I want him to join up [with England]. He's not ready, you'll probably see that in the game. He'll probably play a chunk of the game but he's had no football.
"He had 45 minutes in a friendly against Real Betis. Apart from that, he's had no match action so you probably wouldn't expect somebody in that condition to be playing for a long period. He wasn't ready for today's game."

Loved this interview from Moyes. He is very quickly growing into this role. Give him a few months, with some signings and results under his belt and he will rightfully carry the entire weight of Manchetser United with him

Who will first press guy he bans?

I think you are going to be very disappointed very soon, I dont see any way back for Rooney and Chelsea are the only bidder's so far.

You of course know that United don't need to sell ? We can afford to keep Rooney for one season. His value will drop £10-15 million but we will lose more if we sell him. I am not saying United will NOT sell Rooney - I am just saying it would be stupid to sell to Chelsea for that kind of money now - when we probably can get £15-20 million next summer as well

We'll see. We won't be selling to Chelsea in my opinion, only bidder or not.

The newspapers may be telling us that we will be, we have no choice and Rooney holds all the cards etc.

I disagree, I think we're bigger than that.

I know we dont have to sell him, I just want this ended ASAP and if that means we have to sell to Chelsea, then so be it.

Ah moyes, already sounding a bit like fergie with the media. I remember that presser fergie gave once where he went off on one saying, "well because it's the way youse behave...why would I want to come and talk to you people??"

Brilliant stuff from Moyes that. Fergie would be smiling at that.

Nah feck that, it's not worth selling to Chelsea no matter what they offer.

Just my personal opinion, not based on anything other than what I have read and seen.
I dont think there is a way back for him, Moyes to sell him and stamp his authority on the team, of course this could back fire on him badly.
He is in a no win situation, sell him and we start to lose and who ever buys him starts to win he will get hammered on here and in the press, keep him and he plays like he did towards the end of last season, we will have a team just carring a player that neither wants to play or is trying to play.

This x1000.

Some of you just want to get rid of Rooney because this saga has dragged on for a while now.

If Rooney goes to Chelsea they'll win the league IMO.

Vidic wants him to stay. Good words from him about it:

Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic has questioned why striker Wayne Rooney would want to leave "the best club in the world".

United have rebuffed two bids from Chelsea for Rooney, who missed today's 2-0 FA Community Shield win over Wigan with a shoulder injury.

David Moyes has repeatedly insisted Rooney is not for sale, including after the Wembley win, and Vidic hopes the England forward will still be at Old Trafford following the closure of the transfer window on September 3.

"I believe Man United is the biggest club in the world and I think there's no point to go anywhere (else)," Vidic said.

"There's so much speculation, so much talk about whether he'll leave or stay. He's at the best club in the world.

"I have to say the last four years I was in that position as well. People were talking about me leaving the club.

"I'm still here and I'm enjoying playing for this club. Nothing has changed."

Rooney was reported to be unhappy after Moyes, intentionally or not, suggested Robin van Persie was his number one strike option.

Vidic believes Rooney and Van Persie, who scored both goals at Wembley, can be a prolific partnership again this season for the defending Barclays Premier League champions.

The Serbia defender added: "Definitely. No question about that.

"They're both top forwards and so much rumours over the years, players coming, players leaving. This is part of the show."

I know we dont have to sell him, I just want this ended ASAP and if that means we have to sell to Chelsea, then so be it.

So because you want this ended ASAP, you'd be willing to let one of the best strikers in the world move to our title rivals?

Up to Moyes to earn his corn and manage him.

By the same token, you can't keep a £30 million player when he wants to leave. If he only wants to go to Chelsea then what can we do? United have been in this position when buying before and we always gwtt our man.

Why can't we keep him? We don't need the money and he has 2 years on his deal anyway. I'd rather keep an unhappy Rooney rather than let him go to Chelsea. An unhappy Ronaldo did well enough in his final season here as well.

But was Ronaldo unhappy in his last season, he had been asked to stay by SAF on the promise that he will be sold to his dream club the following season and he was happy with that and did very well for us in that season.

We kept an £80m man who wanted to leave!

Rooney, if he goes will go on our terms.

If Rooney goes to Chelsea they'll win the league IMO.

Not if he plays like he did last season.

He is past his best in my opinion and I don't think we want to extend his contract in its current form. Fergie is a wise old owl and I believe he knew it was time to get rid, but of course the value saving rhetoric of "he isn't going anywhere" started with Fergie and has continued successfully.

Mourinho though, needs to take a leaf out of Wenger's book and understand how to go about being respectful to other clubs. His nonsense to the Press concerning Waynetta is very unprofessional. I do hope he goes, but not to Chelsea, just to piss Mourinho off.

If the rumors about Rooney being upset with what Moyes said about RVP being his 1st option is true, then I dont get Rooney. He is fighter. Wouldnt he want to prove everyone wrong that he can be better than RVP given the chance? I know you are one of the best players in the world but just because you have proven yourself before, doesnt mean you cant do it again.

Would say there's more than that. He was rumoured to want out before that. But I still don't get it - Fergie didn't pick up for a few games because he was under-performing. Fergie's gone now. New manager, new challenge. I don't understand. I still think that he's actually scared to turn back due to the backlash he might receive from fans. I genuinely believe that.

Sometimes with players, it really just isn't worth the hassle. Rooney's obviously decided that his career is fizzling out a bit at OT and wants to move. Selling him to Chelsea wouldn't be ideal but it might get rid of potential poison in the squad.
