How difficult would it be to just pawn him of to PSG? He might not want to go there, but if the powers makes it clear to him that it is PSG/abroad or staying put then surly we'd be able to send him packing there.

Rooney will knuckle down - there's no sense in him not trying in a World Cup year. If Rooney downs tools and ends up on United's fringes and Welbeck & Sturridge have really good seasons, he could be in trouble come next summer.

I think he'd knuckle down too if the move doesn't come off especially if Chelsea sign someone else. I'm not sure if his WC spot would actually be in jeopardy, but from a personal view point I think he would want to do well in this given he's really under performed since 04.
If not sold, just keep him on the bench, Rooney will be panicking in a world cup year and not much playing time. It says something about England, that even if he was demoted to the reserves Hodgson would still need to pick him.

If England make it to Brazil he will be the no1 striker regardless of form and fitness. I am not singling out Rooney but that's how it is when it comes to England.
I've heard people say that he could have a shit season and still get a place at the World Cup. Yes, but he wouldn't have any sort of form and fitness going into it. This is the most important international tournament of his career - as such, he'll have the apply himself throughout the season.

But, for him personally, he won't have any form if he's sulked throughout the season. This isn't about him not being selected. We all know Rooney needs form and fitness to be at his best. He can't just switch it on.
If we do flog as soon as the £40m comes in, it'll be a bit pathetic. Chelsea's team will be phenomenal, especially from an attacking perspective. As things stand, their strikers are average.
Any normal player with half a brain I would agree with you , but Rooney has shown time and time again that is does not have even half a brain.
If he stays and buckles down and plays well and scores a shed full, yes I would be cheering but only because United would be winning.

Even if we don't sell we can line up a replacement for him. I can't see him giving his best for us this season even if he stays.
