Durham and Michael Gray on TalkShite getting so much wrong its unbelievable;

Michael Gray, "I think Wayne Rooney came on as sub in the last game of the season" "Sir Alex Ferguson publicly declared Rooney had submitted a written transfer request". No he didn't.

Why Still No Transfer Request? Surely he's doesn't want United to pay for the privilege of his move?
Rooney grow a pair and just hand it in, you'll be on your way in no time.

Didn't Rooney once deck Michael Gray in a restaurant?

Better to sell him to Arsenal than Chelsea. They'd still have more business to do until they turn into a genuine threat.

Don't know what gives you that idea. We presumably know if he wants to leave, a transfer request wont effect anything, the club want to keep him and certainly don't want to sell to Chelsea, and ultimately that's all that matters.

Unless of course we don't want to pay him a loyalty bonus together with his ticket to Chelsea.

I think United is doing the correct thing by refusing to sell him to any of the premiership rivals.
It is sad that Rooney didn't realized who transformed him from a player who has potential into one who is quite well known. I think he is not really educated and is ill advised by his money hungry agent.
If he sends in a request, United must hold out for at least 60M (Torres was bought at 50M) or else, let him rot in the reserves permanently.

Rooney wants to leave what do you expect moyes to do then?

He signed a five year contract, whatever the truth hidden amongst the relentless tablid bullshit Wayne Rooney is an employee of this football club and should continue to be so until that contract ends. Keep him and play him, if he doesn't play well enough to get picked then he won't be starting at the world cup. And if he really takes the piss we can fine him. Perhaps we can point out the example of his mate Ronaldo, another player who, due to his stupidity and his ego, forced the club to let him take a step down.

Do people have any idea how much money this football club makes? We can buy great players, we can even afford to pay 180k a week to someone underperforming, but we can't buy our reputation back.

There's nobody outside of Dagestan who'll pay him any more than we do.

Sorry, but I'd call Chelsea and tell them the price is £50 million. Either piss or get off the pot. If they're not interested, let Rooney rot until someone comes up with the asking price.

The million dollar question.

How much do we pay Wayne Rooney? No one seems to have the slightest clue

Tbf if we don't get the bid we want for him we don't necessarily have to give him a new contract and certainly not an improved one straight away. If Chelsea don't get him they will likely move on to another target and so they might not want him that much next year or the year after at which point he will be near 30. Who know's what will happen in that time, he might get his head down and really up his game, earning a better deal and hopefully patching things up on the way, or he might realize that he's got nowhere to go on a similar competitive level if Chelsea move on and so just have to take the contract he's given that will no doubt be good anyway.

We've finished an average of 16 points ahead of Chelsea in each of the last three seasons. If a club so inferior to us can force us to sell them one of our best (and most high-profile) players then we might as well stop calling ourselves Manchester United.

I reckon it's around the £200K a week mark. I've seem reports a bit more and a bit less. It's a fecking shit-load whatever it is and I really doubt this whole situation is about him getting a pay increase.

Why? If you were dogshit and in the 2nd divsion you'd still be Manchester United.

I fully agree with this sentiment. You just don't sell a top player to a rival, you don't.

Bollocks, no way should he be given a pay rise.
He takes what id offered or he rots in the reserves.
I don't want him playing for United again, Wayne fecking Rooney is a disgrace.

It might not sound like it, but that's exactly how I feel. If he's at United we might as well get some use out of him.

You do not think that Hernandez, Welbeck and Kagawa could either in part or entirely make up the shortfall of goals and assists? To say nothing of improved wing play and any midfielder that Moyes might purchase before the end of the window.

Its a lot of mights instead of what we know Rooney can do. Losing and not replacing a player of his caliber sends the wrong message to the rest of the team and the supporters and most importantly our rivals. I think Hernandez and Kagawa between them of course could make up for it but I would rather have the option of having Rooney in the team as well.

These types of sagas rarely go well for the selling club. At this point the only reason I wouldn't sell is that it weakens us and strengthens a rival. Demanding a prohibitive figure is pointless - even with £50 million, who would you get now and what club wouldn't fleece us in the same way? Making him stay will not be good long-term and a distraction that nobody needs, yet selling him will (unfairly) put more pressure on Moyes and possibly be seen as 'gifting the title to Chelsea'.

So, (granted a little a Football Mangeresque) if Chelsea want him so much, I'd demand that someone like Mata/Hazard are part of deal or they can't have him and any further bids/public recruitment will be reported to the PL. Rooney would also have to submit a written transfer request. Pipe dream but I it's about the only scenario I can think of where we 'win' unless Rooney comes to his senses, which seems even less likely.

Would we really need a replacement now?

But that's the thing, we're expecting Rooney to come to his senses, but by letting it become public we've alienated him completely from the fans, I just don't get the point of that if we wanted him to stay. I think we may have been banking on getting a big name signing in like Fabregas and then being in a position to really say to Rooney that we don't need you but we won't let you go on the cheap either. Right now though we do need him and so the dynamic is slightly changing in to can we keep him, rather than Rooney making a silly choice and not being up for the fight.

I agree with that, at this late stage of the transfer window we are unlikely to get someone of the same quality, so for me Mata should be part of any deal.
