Great game from Rooney against Reading. Only thing I found a little frustrating was at 4.07 when he had room to 'attack the space' and we would have been 3 v 4 against them but he passed backwards. Apart from that, really good game. Hope he has a great game against City.

 Ashley Young's face after Rooney's pen.. sensual seduction

I'm shocked none of you figured it out yet.

It's all about the hair!!!

He played some of his best football at the start of last season after getting hair implants and having a "normal" haircut.

We've seen a lot of criticism about his play (and hair), and now he cuts his hair to "normal again" and this is what follows, 2 goals and an assist.

It's such an obvious pattern.

Defence is an absolute shambles yet again. Complacency all over the shop.

edit: wrong thread. still shit though.

Don't get the point of him on the right like this unless its purely for fitness. Playing a 4 means he can't drift like in a 3/5 and he doesn't really carry the ball well, could understand in the left but he seems wasted on the right if we're not gonna let him swap with the other forwards.

As much as I love all our striking options we really should tone down on playing them out of place just so they play. They're strikers (or CFs) for a reason.

Just gave the best performance of his season playing on that position in the last match.

Dead rubber, fitness, let others play in their positions.

No biggie, top of the group.

Not a right winger by any stretch of the imagination. Some of his crosses didn't even clear the first man.

If there is a silver lining from this loss, its that hopefully Fergie can CLEARLY see from his seat in the stands that Rooney is not a winger and shouldn't be played there ever again.

I dunno after a decent first half against reading he was pretty anonymous in the second half and fergie said that wa his best game.

I agree, think he's wasted there, could understand if we set up in a way that lets him drift but we don't. Also I don't think it's just match time he needs its goals and he's not gonna get that on the right flank.

People seem to be raving about him at times in midfield with his passes or often put him in the top 3 for the MOTM threads. Myself, I reckon he's been very sloppy at times even if he does set up a goal or have good moments. His passing at times is awful and he doesn't run or take anyone on these days and where are the blockbuster goals?

Still one of our best few players no doubt but he could be so much better.

His second goal was identical to one he's scored before, it's annoying me trying to remember which

One of the Arsenal 3-1's. Maybe in the CL at the Emirates?

He's had far better complete games when not scoring and got completely slated for them....what a difference two fine finishes can make. His passing seemed atrocious today, but his effort, as it is mostly, was brilliant. Some brilliant covering runs back, even when it had nothing to do with him us losing the ball, love that, seemed well for it today.

Rooney is such a big match player. He might have the odd stinker like City away last year but his general record in big matches is something else.
