Surely no one takes what they say seriously.

Durham obviously does much of this by design although is likely a reactionary character anyway. Gough however i do believe may be as dimwitted about some things as his presenter persona suggests, if he was just on there talking about cricket it might not be so bad.

If Torres is worth £50m after a continuous string of injuries and a goal drought drier than the atacama desert, Rooney is easily worth at least that, if not more for one of our direct title rivals.

It's a shame Rooney seems intent on ruining his legacy at United.

I think if he was truly hell-bent on a move, he would have milked that hamstring injury, and not have been immediately back into training, playing practice matches and the like. Can't fault his professionalism throughout, as this is usually when players are "missing" from squads.

I said this shortly before it was announced he was injured again. Oh well.

OMGZ Leon Osman doom doom doom etc.

If you're Adrian Durham and you look back and your career a decade from now how much pride will there be?

No doubt it has been passable lucrative however with the exception of that European football show with Marcotti and Honigstein 15 years past, he's little more than a football focused ginger Bill O'Reilly type.

If he has refused to travel he can shove off. Wonder if he will be at stadium for Rio's testimonial. He obviously can't play as he is INJURED.

He'll be pictured playing golf tomorrow, no doubt.

The Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime is under United's payroll and he apparently refuses to travel? What the feck is this?

None of us know whether he's genuinely injured or refused to travel.

Noel Gallagher said it best...

"Wayne Rooney is a scouser!....He hates both City and United! It's a fact! He doesn't care about United! He's an Everton fan for feck sake!!"

I did say apparently :smirk:

And besides, don't kid yourself. You lot genuinely know inside whether it's all a cover-up or not. Let's see if he turns out for Rio's testimonial couple of days later

A question (sorry if the answer is obvious): what concrete effect does a transfer request have? The Guardian says that he would be forcing through a move. Is that the case? Or do we still hold the same power to say no?

If in fact we do still hold all the cards, then I don't see what choice Rooney has? Unlike Suarez's situation, where you could envision him 'tanking' or going through the motions to try to strengthen his hand (and it not really having a hugely negative impact on his World Cup prospects,) Rooney's situation demands that he play, and play well. Knowing that we could theoretically let him rot on the bench, while still being fairly well-stocked in attacking options (unlike LFC,) you'd think Rooney would have no choice other than to get on with it, and play well, given the WC and that he'll be almost 30 by the time his contract runs out (and unlikely to interest top clubs unless he's going through a Van Persie-like peak.)

Sorry for the convoluted post.

Another question: how feasible it really to do player exchanges? If it is feasible, then I'd be happy to do a Mata + cash swap for Rooney (I think Chelsea would be mad to do this, but if they really want Rooney...)

This could have been so much simpler and less unpleasant if he had simply put in a transfer request months ago stating he felt like he needed a new challenge. No one would hold that against him.
Of course we'd hold it against him, but nowhere near as much as we will now.

It still remains the clubs decision, but if he puts in a request and we accept we don't have to pay the ridiculously named loyalty bonus which saves us a few million Id guess

Only thing that matters now is who can we get to replace him.

Yes, it's typically idiotic behaviour to even consider the latest batches of coincidences as suspicious:

* Wayne is reported as being 'angry & confused'; Chelsea put a bid in.
* Chelsea put another bid in...and Wayne is suddenly injured.
In tomorrow's episode: Wayne misses Rio's testimonial after being injured by an envelope containing another bid.

But given how potentially detrimental his going to Chelsea could be to us, I see no reason why we would sell to them (much like LFC would never envision selling Suarez to us.)

Follow Fergie's suit of not looking to replace directly, just shift responsibility.

If we were to bring in Fibreglass, I'd be happy to see us with 3 strikers in RVP, Hernandez and Welbeck, a proper "Number 10" in Kagawa and continue our traditions by blooding Januzaj into the team in the "Number 10" role. In reality, Januzaj is a Premiership Loan away from First Team football but he might make the step up. He looked great on tour, the only thing that will bring him on further is games.

You are asking the wrong person mate  Id give him to anyone who wanted him for the price of an Indian takeaway and a case of lagers.

Handed to him by Moyes with such murderous rage that it would kill a lesser man.

I think that will prove difficult, actually. We don't have all the time in the world. If we have to sell him we probably need to rely on what we already have. That isn't the end of the world, mind. We could get by swimmingly without him: Kagawa kicks on, Chicharito takes another step and benefits greatly from the increase in playing time, Welbeck starts hitting the target, Nani returns to form...We could be just fine.

I will say this, though: I'd be a lot more laid-back about the Rooney situation if we got a couple of midfielders in. As it stands, right now, we are a team with a new manager, no transfers in to boost the squad, standing to lose one of our best players and most consistent goal scorers. It's not an ideal place for us to be in, I think we can all agree on that.

Do you believe that he got injured just in time for the preseason tour, got fit again and is now injured again as we travel to the next game?
