I get this niggling feeling that SER19 really hates Rooney.

How anyone can even defend Rooney now is beyond me. Have some fecking pride! I wouldn't care if he was twice the player he actually is, he needs to be shown the door. If people think he genuinely wants to stay then logic says they must think Fergie had lost the plot when he came out and said what he did about Rooney.

is it obvious?

in seriousness, you wont have to search hard for me defending him and ive never been slow to praise his talent. his behaviour in the past 2 years however has been 100% unforgiveable. I cant believe anyone would happily see him wear a united shirt again.

He probably thought that you were saying that he's the greatest player to ever play for England. Which you Weren't, I hope.

It was Ruud10's post and I'm pretty sure he wasn't saying that Rooney was the greatest English player of all time, just the best of the current batch.

So how will you react if he does wear a united shirt again?

Rooney to chelsea simply shouldn't happen, it'll hurt the club in so many ways it'd be moronic to entertain the idea, first it'd give mourinho exactly what he needs and can't find anywhere else at the moment which will give him a huge advantage, second it sends a message that we're open to the idea of selling our star players to rivals now, under saf it was a no go, we all remember what happened with heinze and we didn't even need him back then, we can't allow that to happen to moyes in his first season, it'll encourage clubs to unsettle our players in the future because they know they stand a chance.

I'd sell him abroad, loan him abroad or even just keep him to rot, but selling to chelsea would be a huge mistake.

Well i'd never boo a united player and any contribution to the team that is positive I'll be as happy as always in an overall sense. I will find it hard to find as much joy should rooney himself score and would hope at the very least for yet another apology (if he put in a request). on top of that I'd expect a huge increase in performance levels and believe it would be right for him to be treated differently to other players. anything more than a reasonable dip in form and he should be dropped quicker than the average player due to the question marks he has caused himself about how much he actually gives a shit about playing for united. would sooner see januzaj or another young player in than a stroppy wayne rooney.

I couldn't stand another season of his bullshit, its like having a teenage girl in the team.

Who's "defending" him, pray tell? What does that even mean in this context?

That's the real issue. I don't think Rooney leaving is the problem for most people, it's doing right by the Club. I've seen a few people say "sell him for £20m and let's move on" but it isn't that simple. We need to make the point that we won't be taken for a ride by a cnut of a player or his cnut of an agent, who is drip feeding the despicable cretins in the media for his own personal gain and they're falling for it, to the extent where you've got that feckwit from the Mirror writing that bollocks about our transfer business. The stand needs to be strong simply because we have a new manager for the first time in a generation and people are waiting for us to fail.

If he does then he does, I wont like it, I wont be cheering his name, even if he does score.

Champions league final its 2-2 in the last 20 seconds of injury time, Rooney picks the ball up and smashes the ball into the top right hand corner of the goal from 70 yards out.

You'd be cheering like a loon with the rest of us :-)

Possibly. But it's naive to think United would ever tell the truth in these circumstances.

Isn't it also naïve to assume they're lying also? What it comes down to is what you want to believe because everyone's got an agenda. Personally, I think people are best to ignore it and not incite it. There's no point to it.

Rooney makes the final call on where he moves though. If he won't move anywhere other than Chelsea then there is nothing we can do. Why should we be scared of Chelsea? I expect we'll get big money off them, evolve as a team and come back stronger. It's what we always do.

But these people that think he was genuinely injured, do they think he wants to stay? Do they think Fergie was lying when he hung Rooney out to dry? Come on, all this is no coincidence.

Are people still calling him a legend and saying they want him to be our all time top scorer?

We don't have to let him move anywhere.

You think both injuries are fake then?

The first injury I can just about believe.

This one is a pure fabrication and you've got to be incredibly naive not to believe that.

The comments were hilarious - 'oh yeh, Wayne's got a shoulder injury, but I don't imagine it should keep him out too long.'

Nothing like detail. He's going to hand in a transfer request and Moyes is sensibly setting up his season without him. I don't understand why the club can't just say 'in light of the situation, we think it's best he sits it out.'

I reckon Rooney's worth £25m to us and £20m for him not to go to Chelsea (strengthening a rival, club image etc). This puts it at £45m or so - I can see why we're rejecting these bids without consideration.

I wouldn't boo him if he stayed, but I'd want to.

My thinking there is that it is either purely to keep his price up, should other teams come in, or to not make things too difficult with the support should he have to stay.

It's not like the club haven't faked injuries with players before in order to benefit the situation at the time (mostly internationals), I think it's pretty obvious there's no injury here.
