The story about Rooney's handing a transfer request is written Neil Ashton, who's Chelsea mouth piece in the Media.

He's not Chelsea's mouthpiece in the media at all. He pissed the club off due to having a dressing room mole who was leaking tactical details under the late days of Di Matteo and early days of Benitez.

The club use the Independent (mainly Sam Wallace) as the media mouthpiece.

What sort of welcome when he comes back to OT with Chelsea? I think it will be awful as he has twice tried to destabilise our club. We are usually good with ex players, but not in this case. He will deserve all he gets.

BBC are saying £25 plus add on, I think they will need to double that if they want Rooney.

Considering he's Jose's only target, they aren't trying very hard to get him, maybe he doesn't have Roman's 100% backing?

Torres £50M
Rooney £25M + add ons

Yeah right...

Once bitten, twice shy.

I wouldn't be surprised if at least part of the motive isn't to unsettle Wayne Rooney and leave Moyes with a disruptive influence in the squad. In a way, it's win-win. Get a striker who will improve the squad or leave a rival with a headache when they are at their most vulnerable with a new manager.

Perhaps they're bidding low because Wayne only wants to go to Chelsea, and both clubs are aware of that.

For all we know Rooney could have sat down with Moyes and told him that he's staying at United.

I wonder if chelsea fans actually thought we'd accept £30 million from them?
And thats it now they will not be back with a third bid as we have said no twice, Chelsea fans must be embarrassed. Mourinho is making a pigs ear of this managing lark. Chelsea will be lucky to get fourth.

I know you're being sarcastic but lets not start this shit again.

I think he is going to stay in all honesty though the majority of fans seem to want him gone, we won't get that 50 million bid plus we haven't signed enough quality to replace his contribution. It's going to be an odd season but I expect him to put his head down and work hard. If he has a good season he will have suitors next summer.

He'll put in a transfer request and we'll end up selling for around £40m, I reckon. Personally I think we'll really regret strengthening Chelsea. He'll instantly rid them of their biggest weakness.

Are no other clubs interested in Rooney? Or does he just want to go to Chelsea?

That's what happening. The club still won't sell it to Chelsea though.

That is what I think as well but I also think we will get Fabregas which is strengthening one of our weakest areas, could make for one hell of a battle next season.

I said it at beginning of this saga. It would be the worst avoidable moment I can think of in my time supporting the club.

Previously I considered selling a top player to a league rival as unthinkable.

£25 million is laughable, thats less than what we originally paid for him.

That's plausible.

Will be interesting to see how this pans out. Are we prepared to hold on to him despite him being unhappy and possibly sulking away throughout the season, and then maybe having to sell him for a lesser fee next year? Or if we rule it out, will Rooney buck up and give his best anyway?

It's the future though ( been happening in Italy for years ) player power means the clubs will have less of a say as to where top players end up I reckon.

I honestly thought that Rooney would retire a Manchester United player.

It will be gutting to see him playing for those bastards .

I would like to believe that but I don't see United keeping a player with his wages at the club if he is not going to be productive. Perhaps I am wrong but I don't see Rooney as someone who is professional enough to give his all if he is forced to stay at the club.

I wonder what the feck happened to make Chelsea catch his eye? It was pre Fergie leaving and pre Mourinho joining when he made his feelings clear. I guess they caught wind early and made some advances to Stretford.

I want him to leave now, I'm sick of his bullshit but make no mistake, he's a fantastic player and will be excellent under Mourinho. If we are going to sell him, we should do it abroad, even if that means keeping him against his will for a season, we've got more chance to win the league with him on our bench during Moyes' hugely important first season here than we have with him playing for Chelsea. It's a big statement, but that decision could impact our future quite heavily.
