He'll get booed and he probably deserves to.

He's a professional footballer, he should take it in his stride and realise why he's upset United fans.

Well, Steve - given the circumstances both sides could very well be right when they accuse the other side of being unreasonable. Because there are many unreasonable posts in this thread. I find it reasonable that people don't like Rooney. I don't find it reasonable to claim that he has acted in a way which makes it impossible for him to continue being a United player. I find it reasonable to want him sold, less reasonable to claim it doesn't matter where. And I find it very unreasonable to claim that he is an overweight, unprofessional and greedy git who has doubtlessly seen his best days as a player. That's my stance on this, summed up.

I think he has proven that one at least time and time again. 1: Missing a crucial FA Cup semi against city because he was suspended for swearing into a tv camera, insisting he is fit to play for England when SAF had publically stated he was injured, not taking adequate care of himself during the off season more than once, being sent off for sarcastically clapping the ref and subsequently missing CL matches. People regularly claim footballers and clubs are nothing more than employers and employees these days.....fair enough, then being unable to perform the job you are being paid to through your own stupid actions constitutes being unprofessional in my eyes.

^ And the fitness issues cited by Fergie following Rooney's injury against Fulham last season was simply a continuation of a lax attitude all of that summer, he turned up to the Euros in poor condition after holidaying in Vegas during the preceding weeks.

Doubt they'll boo him ,more chance of them shouting "Rooney,Rooney,Rooney" like the sheep they are. And i don't mean it in a bad way.

I think that Rooney needs to prove himslef to te fans.

I don;t want him to go but he can't expect the fans to know what s going on when he hasn't been forthcoming. If he would tell the fans where he stands then that would go a long way in sorting things out.

If he openly says he wants to stay then the fans will lay of him IMO. There ill be the odd few but that is up to him to turn them back around by performances on the pitch and his attitude.

If he says he wants to go then why should he expect the fans to cheer him on?

He is sitting on the fence at the moment as he doesn't want to burn bridges if he stays. He needs to man up (Sorry LFC) and say what he wants

Anyone remember when Giggs used to get booed? Disgusting.

I don't think Rooney should get booed, I think it would be better to simply not sing his name.

Unless people subscribe to the notion that Chelsea made a bid without first having made contact with Rooney or his circle it is possible to take some steer from that as to the strength of his commitment at present.

It happened much after that as well. Blackburn at home I think, sometime between 2004 and 2006.

I think that was the League Cup semi final which was soon before the Juve game. Giggs has had stick from the crowd since as well (latter stages of the 2007-08 season) which is just mad.

I hope I'll never see the day when we boo our own players. If people don't like Rooney, then don't chant his name. Easy as pie.

A goal against City will get the majority back on side though.

I really hate this kind of phrase, makes football fans sound so mindless.

A goal and we'd cheer because United have scored, not because we're some capricious child whose opinions can change at a stroke.

It's just another excuse to leave the club. First we weren't playing him enough, then because SAF might say something bad, now because the fans might boo.

It's not close to clever. He and his team are just trying to desperately get him out. They should shut up and focus on the fact he's not going anywhere and if he wants to go, stay in shape, play well and let us sell you for what you are worth at the ned of the season or in the next transfer window.

"People are mean to me" isn't a viable option for selling.

Agreed. The flurry of newspaper articles that I believe came from Rooney's camp were almost comically pathetic. There was a period in late June / early July when it seemed a different story with a different basis for Rooney's unhappiness was popping up almost daily. It's all bullshit, most people can see through it and see that it's PR manipulation, but it's been shoddily done and his concurrent silence on twitter has eaten into any sympathy I might have had for him. It's like Rooney/Stretford's modus operandi is to do things sneakily... if he'd come out at the end of the season and said he wants out and explained why, we could have spared this thread about 100 pages.

No no no no, you are quite wrong the newspapers are making everything up, despite the fact he hasn't denied any of it and personally if the papers were attributing quotes to me Id never made Id sue the living feck out them, but its still all the papers telling fibs.

Now you just being silly, but yes then maybe I would boo him , but if that did happen I doubt if he would even be playing football.

So, not 'never.'

There are things players will do that will make one boo them, is my point. And everyone has their limits. I'm not a fan of booing players for their performances, unless a player just stands there doing nothing. But there are times when players cross a line for fans. What Rooney has done (twice) is one of those lines. Asking to leave a club twice? Yeah, you get booed. That's life. If one is going to take an action, one needs to understand all the variables.

Truth is, Rooney knows he will be booed by some fans and is using as another, rather transparent and pathetic, excuse.

I can see you point, I would never boo a United player purely for football reasons.
Thats not to say I don't want the shit out of the club , because I do.

Its just you dont want the booing to effect the team is the issue for me, otherwise id boo him till the cows come home

It's complete naivety on his part to think that. I've never boo'd a player of ours before, even when a lot of others have, but I'd be tempted to boo this cnut.
Will you start singing his name if he scores against City? Not calling you fickle but the majority of people who boo him will probably forget what happened over summer if he scores against City, it happened in 2010 and it will happen again in 2013.
