It's usually a family atmosphere so I doubt he will get any abuse, it's Rio night so I doubt anyone will be bothered about Rooney. The Chelsea game will be interested if this saga is still going on.

That's pretty much why I thought it would be bizarre to boo Rooney.. The crowd in this case will still have a contingent of the actual ST holders/matchday goers so it will be interesting regardless.

People say a player isn't bigger then the club, so people should just support the team and not bother booing him. If people have grudges against him from 2010 and now, rise above it if you're 'better' then him. At the end of the day, we've a new manager and let's not drag any melodrama into the start of the season. It will be hard enough as it is.

It's a shame for him (since he obviously thinks this) that so many people read papers these days.

Its all well and good, and fairly justifiable to assume everything in the papers is bullshit, but even a blind squirrel finds the occasional nut.

Rooney fell out with fergie ( being dropped for madrid and constantly played out of position- you can see his frustration-)

Moyes then comes out saying NO player is bigger than the club and we'll need him if RVP injured, i think this was meant as main striker but it was easily jumped on by the press and taken out of context causing rooney to be confused ( i can understand this). In this time you'd like to think Moyes has explained this to the player and re-assured him.

He is then big time courted by Chelsea rent boys and the inevitable mourinho mind games, offered the world to go there and head is turned understandably, but we have still heard nothing directly from rooney or his agent. So its all paper talk, sources etc

Throughout all this the media have been a disgrace, fabricating quotes, Chelsea propoganda, rooney in chelsea kit, cashley cole, czech x4, hazard, ivanovic, terry,Ba, lampard, mikel, cahill and others spouting off about him joining. Bit like Madrid with Bale and maybe to a lesser extent our pursuit of fabregas.

Don't you think we should not jump the gun and boo one of our players until we know exactly what is happening, i think Rooney, despite his misgivings deserves some respect until we've heard him out. But he in turn owes it to the fans who have supported him to tell us what is happening. Believing all this media BS can tilt our opinions for sure- but Moyes says he is staying, looking forward to working with him etc, so if this is the case let's support the guy until we know different.

A blind squirrel at the end of a sealed upright drainpipe.. That someone's dropped a nut into.

It would take something monumental for me to boo a United player. Wishing to take on a new challenge elsewhere isn't one of them. If he wants to leave, he wants to leave. As good as Rooney is, I'd be more gutted if Welbeck wanted to leave for a rival, considering he's a United boy. Rooney isn't. He's here because of the money, and I'd be surprised if anyone thought otherwise. If Rooney started coming out with the stuff Lewandowski is currently spouting, about feeling "cheated" because he has to remain at a club he is contracted to be at, then I'd probably change my mind on Rooney, but as it stands, I think he's done well to just stay silent on the matter and continue training.

I still want him to stay and just get on with it. We've lost alot this summer. A veteran, some staff, and the best manager of all time. Losing a top player as well would be difficult I think. If we can keep the current squad together with a midfield addition or 2, I think we'll be in excellent shape.

I agree. I just feel it has gone past that (from what I have read that is..) He seems to want to leave. Both sides could have handled the situation better.

I think I'm remaining quite open about it all because there's so much uncertainty. He's stayed very silent, all credit to him. United have stood firm as well, though the media have run riot. I think there's alot we don't know. Perhaps when we know what's gone on (if we ever will) that might make me change my mind on him. Some say that his silence is quite telling, but I believe his silence could really go either way. It could mean alot of things. Alot think that the Fabregas transfer is impossible, myself included, yet Fabregas has stayed silent too, so it's impossible to tell.

The club seem intent on him staying. he's still a central figure as far as our marketing is concerned. He's still plastered along the glass of Old Trafford isn't he? And we're also making a lot of noise about his 'return' in Sweden. I think there's a big chance he will stay and consider it a fresh start. I think the same goes for Nani too.

:boring: @ the "hasn't he been a good little Rooney for remaining silent" nonsense.

When you have the entire Mirror group serving as a propaganda arm and your PR company contacting every mainstream outlet expressing feigned anger at quotes you willingly manipulated to suit an agenda, that is not someone holding their own counsel.

In any event when you have shown yourself happy to communicate about insignificant things yet fail to speak directly about something so disruptive over a period of months, and in that time allow views to be attributed to you repeatedly, the quiet carries a message too.

The player in this instance Rooney has responsibility for both approaches.

So you actually believe that rather than going by the original interview interview itself or perish the thought gave the manager a call to remove any uncertainty, Rooney [his people] instead acted on second hand sources with the anger/confusion being a genuine sentiments on his part?

Such being the case would defy belief.

Yes, well, some people can continue supporting a player who either wants to leave United or stay here as long as he gets special treatment compared to his team-mates...and I'll carry on being a borderline fruitcake cynical cnut; but at least I won't be naive & consider a player to be more important than club I support. Even if we're generous & say that he has kept his silence, then he's also been silent about moving to a direct rival at a time when we need every talented & experienced player onside; so why the hell are United fans siding with him when he's clearly only concerned about himself, not the club?

Even if we're generous & say they have kept their silence, then they've also been vocal about not letting him move to a direct rival at a time when he needs more talented & experience players beside him; so why the hell are Rooney fans sticking with Utd when they're clearly only concerned about themselves, not the player?

The CinaJ [pronounced Synergy] double act, look for them on the next series of Britain's Got Talent.

If there's any truth to the "Rooney wants clarification from Moyes" talk, we should get something a bit more tangible soon. One would assume such a meeting will result in something which it will be hard to conceal, as it were, for both parties.

By the way, not everyone who has concerns over us selling a top player to a rival is a mindless "fanboi" who thinks Rooney is bigger than United. Some of us are just a bit less emotionally distraught by his supposedly unforgivable behaviour (which amounts to little more than him being a standard, professional footballer with a cnut for an agent). If you allow yourself to positively loathe a player who might easily end up staying (and playing regularly and, dare I say it, rather well), you're setting yourself up for plenty of awkward moments - and the player in question better be a truly gigantic cnut to make it justifiable.

Why is that when one side of this debate appeals for objectivity, he/she casts the other side as being incredibly unreasonable? 99.9% of this threads' posters will accept what the club decides on this matter, whether they agree with that decision or not - after all, the club's administration are far more knowledgeable about the situation than both Wayne's defenders & his critics.

Thats why I don't really get Nick's strange "Rooney calling for this, Rooney saying that" or others responses like "Rooney quite obviously wants this" then throwing in these bizarre and terribly reported dubious articles into the mix, saying "see.. Look how questionable this is".

"Rooney is feeding the media..." can this even be backed up at all?

I am so fecking glad I have not read a single lick of any paper article on my own watch in this transfer window. It's probably why I haven't been completely wound up about this whole 'saga'. Funny that..

Exactly. If Rooney stays, I can only imagine how catty things are going to be in the matchday threads this season with posters commenting on his every touch either defending or criticising him depending on which stance they took in this thread.

Should be fun.

Well, Steve - given the circumstances both sides could very well be right when they accuse the other side of being unreasonable. Because there are many unreasonable posts in this thread. I find it reasonable that people don't like Rooney. I don't find it reasonable to claim that he has acted in a way which makes it impossible for him to continue being a United player. I find it reasonable to want him sold, less reasonable to claim it doesn't matter where. And I find it very unreasonable to claim that he is an overweight, unprofessional and greedy git who has doubtlessly seen his best days as a player. That's my stance on this, summed up.

How else did they find out he was angry and confused.

Hold on, you specifically set out to deny being something which few if any have accused you of only then to proceed to project a similarly extreme and inaccurate description upon others in the thread? More than a dash of hypocrisy there.

For the sake of clarity i hold to the view that some of the reporting has been to varying degrees influenced by briefings from the Rooney camp; whereas you on the other hand, believe that every single article and broadcast comes by way of a mass media fabrication.

No I don't. I just don't take any kind of 'my mothers teacher said her son said he heard it from an old homeless guy' as a credible source. It pretty much means that any 'my source said this' to me is a load of shite that can't be trusted. I am cynical to the core. When dealing with modern media I think you really have to be. In this age where people have made this bizarre fame of being 'the one who lied on twitter and it got reported' it probably isn't worth reading anything without any real quotes in it.

That's why I can't buy into this 'Rooneys camp has been briefing the media to spout shite' stuff, sure it is probably happening and if it comes out that yes it has been happening from a credible source I'll say "fair play, that's a bit silly". Which is probably also why I have no 'here or there' feelings toward the whole fiasco. If he goes he goes and I'll be disappointed at losing a critical player. If he stays then I want him to sack up and break the goal scoring record.

(I think it also has to do with a bit of a 'want to see haters eat their words' kind of competitive streak I get when sports are involved.)

Hate really ought not to be a theme of football, and there's certainly very little reason for it to be a factor in this present debate.

Rooney is i would suggest a good deal more astute and and cunning when it comes to the ways of the transfer market/PR than many grant, particularly with the experience of 2010 to call upon.

Now this however, is not an example of a sourced story but rather a page of recycled rhetoric and weak innuendo. Most on this forum could do better.

It's shit like that which has the idiots on here thinking they know what Rooney's thinking 'because the press are talking about him so much it must be leaked by his secret mood-publicising team'.

I hope he doesn't get too hostile a reception if he plays against Seville (personally don't think he will). It would only strengthen his and Chelsea's position.

It was obvious he was angry and confused... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...lks-David-Moyes-Manchester-United-future.html

He looked pretty pissed off and confused aka lost and unwilling to ask for directions whilst driving to me. Thats how the press knew.

Why was he driving to you and why didn't he just call you to ask for directions? Or did you set him up with an elaborate riddle, knowing that his little scouse brain would be unable to comprehend it and thus he'd be lost in the wilderness forever, wandering around with an "I'll shag your granny for money" sign?
