IMO it would be a far better situation than selling him to Chelsea.
I can see why a fan would think that, certainly.
Fleecing us for £40 million plus and spending it wisely must be very tempting for Moyes and co though.

Having a grumpy Shrek sat in the stands or benched for two years while you pay him £200K a week then lose him for nothing is not exactly a "win" for United though.
It would be pretty good way of showing Rooney and the rest of the world that we dont take kindly to mercenaries though.
As soon as we sell to your lot it weakens the club hugely. I really hope that 40 million is not tempting for Moyes at all.I can see why a fan would think that, certainly.

That's a very, very expensive way to prove a point.
I would have thought selling him, replacing him and then winning every trophy going would be prefereable.
It would be pretty good way of showing Rooney and the rest of the world that we dont take kindly to mercenaries though. And I bet Rooney will be miserable as well, thinking "Damn, I could get atleast £300k/w sitting on a bench in London".
Has this 'rot in the reserves' thing ever actually happened?
Or; Let him bitch and moan on the bench whilst we still win every trophy. As a fan, I couldnt give a feck if we payed him £20 or £200k at the moment, as he should be treated as bad as he seemingly treat the club. It's become personal rather than business-related the second time he asked for a transfer.
Didnt Chelsea do that to Malouda?
It will cost the club about £60 million (£10 million a year wages + the transfer fee you'd get) if they do that. There is no chance it will happen.
I thought the understanding is that the PFA would step in if a player were forced out of the team on unjustifiable grounds. Clubs cannot just ignore their own players for no reason and would potentially face heavy court actions should they attempt to do so.

Don't think United will ever get to a position like that with Rooney. If Rooney genuinely wishes to leave, then United can't stop it. An unhappy player isn't going to excel, is he?
In any event, the legal consideration is surely moot, because it's Rooney who wishes to leave, not United?
I don't know what you mean by your last sentence.
Celtic done it to a player one time.Didnt Chelsea do that to Malouda?
Hypothetically speaking though, is the rot in the reserves situation a legal option for clubs? I was under the impression that it wasn't.

Why is he a mercenary? If Rooney wants to be a starter in a winning club instead of a second choice in another winning club, I'd say it's ambition.
Was he a mercenary when he was scoring goals and winning trophies for you over the last nine years?

The United Twitter account is the worst thing since Wayne Bridge's marriage.

I don't know, if he is THAT desperate to move making him sweat and panic sounds like fun to me

Exactly. Fans sometimes forget the costs of doing this. Probably a 30m fee from Chelsea and 25-30m on wages for the next two years means that we lose 55-60m pounds trying to look badass. Retarded decision if we choose so. Rotting on reserves is not an option.
If Van Persie had 1 year on his contract and cost United 22 million quid, the. we should get about 40 million selling him to a rival club. If he goes to another league then 35 million is good enough.
He doesn't want to go to a winning club, he wants to go to Chelsea.
Chelsea have won a comparable amount of major trophies as United over the last decade.
