 Shit forgot about that, you're right, screw Zlatan, we want la decima!

I'm actually quite serious about that, don't think he's worth his price tag and exhuberant wages at the moment.

What's the price tag though? I'm sure you pay lesser players some stupid wages too?

I'm actually shocked at that opinion though, you definitely seem to be looking for a striker and Rooney is ideal IMO, him and Ronaldo together are brilliant.

P
Why can't he prefer other strikers? From posts by Chelsea fans here, they too seem to prefer other options.

He can. Which strikers in particular though? I thought its obvious why Rooney would be preferred to Suarez and is Ibra available? I'd have Rooney at Madrid over pretty much any striker ..

Why is it obvious that Madrid would prefer Rooney to Suarez?

It's clearly not obvious, and Madrid clearly think so too seeing as they are heavily in for Suarez and not Rooney.

We'll see who they are heavily in for, so far it seems like only Arsenal have bid for Suarez.

Rooney is the better player and much less of a cnut, isn't likely to get banned for 8+ games a season too. Plus there's the Rooney/Ronaldo factor...

Rooney! I want Rooney!!

Indeed!

 They are in for Suarez right now

I don't think Rooney is better than Suarez anymore, Suarez is younger, he's cheaper and I have huge reservations on Rooney fitting in on the Continent.

£180k. You pay a number of players more.

At the very least mate. There's nothing authoritative on that figure I can see and his wages with bonuses amounted to £220k according to most sources.

There's been nothing concrete about Madrids interest in Suarez as far as I can see, it seems like Arsenal are the one club that Rodgers was referring to when he said they have had a bid.

Suarez is more trouble than he's worth, if I was Madrid manager there's no chance in hell I'd opt for him over Rooney. I still think Rooney is the better player, I'v always rated Rooney and this whole saga hasn't really changed that.

It's not obvious at all. Suarez is a brilliant footballer and whilst he's my most hated footballer, I don't see why his ban needs to follow him around wherever he goes. Rooney has his issues too with wanting to leave his club every two years, with some of his form before the first time being absolutely horrific. I don't think there's much between them.

I do think Suarez would be a better fit. He has more natural brilliance than Rooney and his flair and "holy shit" moments (the football ones) are things I think madrid fans would value.

But I agree that they should be in for Rooney because all the other good options seem to now be taken (apart from Suarez).

Well, this was a discussion between me and Vato and my comment about preferring Rooney to Suarez was aimed in his general direction, and he more or less confirmed that he would prefer Rooney to Suarez, and he's the only striker better than what they currently have who's available.

Hence my surprise at him saying he wouldn't want Rooney, and by judging by your last sentence you even seem to agree.

First of all, I'm really not that bothered about that position as long as we have Ronaldo banging in goals for fun. We've also got Morata coming through the ranks, but I think the main reason we aren't linked with many other big names is that we're apparently preparing a mega bid for Bale.

Fair enough.

I don't think you'll win any silverware without improving your team more than you have already done.

Also, Bale will come to us if he leaves Spurs! ;)

I thought you were joking when you said you would prefer Rooney to Suarez, I think he would be a far better fit for Madrid than Wayne.

Oh, I'm not mate, I wouldn't want that biting cnut anywhere near Madrid if he were the best player in the world.

Even if you assume that it has gone too far, and Rooney is going to leave, the prices being mentioned are ridiculous. How if Higuain, a far, far, far inferior player worth as much or more than the biggest price being speculated (though obviously this may not be true). Rooney has been, since Ronaldo left, the best player in the PL over that entire period of time. He's still one of the very best strikers in the world and yet we're having to fend off bids at the same level as a Stewart Downing type of signing. To put it in context, even RvP had a year more on his contract, wasn't going to sign a new one and was almost three years older than Rooney when he was sold for more than Chelsea bid for him.

This, so much. Cavani just went for £55mil. The starting bid for a player like Rooney should be £40mil. 20 isn't even insulting, it's just ridiculous.

The Chelsea bid was a joke, but we apparently bid £25million for Fabregas which isn't much better

Banned for 8 games a season, injured for 8 games a season, whats the difference?

One is caused by the players own stupidity and cuntishness, the other is largely out of the players hands. Not to mention that the cnut who got banned could also get injured (just like any player).

it was clearly just Chelsea testing the water, no doubt they'll go far higher than that by the end.

The main problem is the fact that Roonet himself is making it look like he wants out more than anything, and he's off the back of what's been perceived as a relatively poor season.

£25mil rising to £30mil. It's a very low opening offer, yes, but not in the same league as £20mil for Rooney. You have to bear in mind the importance of the players to their respective teams for one thing.

Except all signs point to Rooney wanting out and none seem to point to Fabregas wanting out, plus Barcelona have no incentive to sell at all, if they do sell you get the feeling it'll be because our offer will be too good for them to refuse.

You're right about Fabregas. But £20mil for Rooney would be absurd even if he was sitting outside OT with a sandwich board saying 'Help! Get me the feck out of here!' That's essentially what Suarez is doing, and Liverpool just turned down £30mil for him. Cavani wanted to leave, and he just went for £55mil. Like I say, £40mil should be the starting bid for Rooney.

Source?

Sky sports have it just as £25million, and as far as I can see the size of the Rooney bid hasn't been confirmed, and it's not clear whether any add ons were involved with that fee either.

On the second point - I wouldn't say Rooney is any more important to us than Fabregas is to Barca. We have cover for the number 10 position and Rooney is second choice to Van Persie as the main striker, in the same way Fabregas is second choice to Xavi. With Kagawa bedded in I would have no qualms with him starting in Rooney's role. In contrast, with Thiago leaving and Xavi a year older the importance of Fabregas is only increasing.

Some points that are relevant for the other side of the argument are the age of Fabregas, whilst you could argue both are similarly talented Rooney is at his peak and his value will only deteriorate from here. I suspect his performances will deteriorate faster than Cesc as well, I can't see him reaching his 09-10 form when he's 32, but I could imagine Cesc still being at the top of his game.

Obviously alot of that is influenced by their positions, but all in all I would consider Cesc a much better long term investment than Rooney - which should be reflected in the price.

You also need to factor in the wages. Chelsea may have offered a lower bid because they know if we don't sell him we have to pay him £12million per year to sulk around Old Trafford.

Linked to that is the fact Rooney actually wants to leave. Chelsea know that if we don't sell we have an unhappy player in the squad who doesn't want to be here, who has alienated the fans (again) and who will only disrupt Moyes' first year at the healm. In contrast, Barcelona have none of those concerns which should necessitate a higher offer.

Both bids were low and stupid, but the Rooney one wasn't any more so IMO.

Today's installment of "Poor Wayne" is brought to you by Neil Ashton....

The shadow of Sir Alex Ferguson is the reason behind Wayne Rooney’s determination to quit Manchester United.

From boardroom to bootroom, Ferguson’s presence is still being felt all over Old Trafford. As a director of the club, he is entitled to attend board meetings and will remain an influential voice at Old Trafford.
Like many distinguished former members of staff, there will be times when he pops into United’s Carrington training centre to catch up with some old faces.

Then, in his role as a club ambassador, he will inevitably be asked about his prickly relationship with the England international at corporate events.
Rooney’s understandable fear is that Ferguson will open up some old wounds with another throw-away comment.
When he recovers from a hip operation scheduled for this month, Sir Alex will also be watching the progress of David Moyes’ team from a cushioned seat in the directors’ box.
So the United striker wants a fresh start, a new challenge with Chelsea as Jose Mourinho prepares to make a renewed bid.

Chelsea’s players are openly talking to each other about Rooney’s potential arrival at Stamford Bridge and the idea of him playing for Mourinho has been met with universal dressing room approval.
They recognise a player who needs a new challenge, a chance to revitalise his career at another club after nine incredibly successful years at Old Trafford.

It is something Rooney has re-iterated during the telephone conversations that have taken place between him, Moyes and vice-chairman Ed Woodward in the past few days.
United flatly rejected Chelsea’s opening offer — £23million plus £2.5m in various performance-related clauses — submitted by chief executive Ron Gourlay last week.

They will match his £240,000-a-week wages at Old Trafford and give him a five-year contract if United finally agree to his sale.

Despite the instant rejection of their opening offer last week, Chelsea are undeterred. Their financial ceiling is around £30m all-in for a player they believe has five years left at the very highest level. Rooney shares the same view, convinced that he will still be a top player in the Champions League and Barclays Premier League even when he reaches the age of 32.
He was angry last season when Ferguson became obsessed with ‘the numbers’ — the statistical analysis based on every player’s fitness and conditioning.

Rooney’s wife Coleen shops in Waitrose near their home in Alderley Edge virtually every day, filling the family’s trolley with fresh fruit, lean meat and brown pasta. Rooney maintains that he is near the top group, something Moyes appeared to confirm at the start of pre-season when he claimed ‘the team tell me it’s the best shape they have seen him for five years’.

And during his meeting with Ferguson before the end of last season, Rooney reminded the former United manager of his record at the club.
He is sixth in the list of all-time goalscorers in the Premier League behind Alan Shearer, Andy Cole, Thierry Henry, Robbie Fowler and Frank Lampard.

Rooney has scored 141 goals for United in 278 Premier League appearances since his move from Everton in 2004 — as good as a goal every other game.
In the Champions League he has also scored more goals (27) than Robin van Persie (21), the man who Ferguson admitted was his ‘No 1 striker’ at United before their clash with Real Madrid in the Bernabeu last February.
Rooney was used in seven different positions — six outfield and one as substitute — last season. In Ferguson’s final two games, against Swansea and West Bromwich Albion, he was left out of the matchday squad completely.
That humiliation added to his resentment and Rooney’s position remains unchanged: he wants to leave Old Trafford.

He yearns for the days when he was the main man, looking back to his first season up front for United after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo after defeat in the 2009 Champions League final.
Rooney assumed responsibility, leading the line for United, scoring 26 goals in the Premier League and 34 in all competitions.

He was so crucial to Ferguson that he played on one leg against Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final in April 2010 after damaging ankle ligaments in a clash with Mario Gomez in the Allianz Arena.
Those days are long gone, even though Moyes has told Rooney he can immortalise himself in United’s history if he stays at Old Trafford.

He has won five Premier League titles and the Champions League since signing in 2004, but his ambitions stretch beyond Old Trafford now.

Rooney wants to work with Mourinho, believing him to be a manager who will cherish his ability and build a new Chelsea team around him. There are many who sense a player who has lost his love for the game, but he is still the last off the training pitches when he is with United or England.

He has been working solidly at United’s Carrington training ground since his return from the club’s pre-season tour, but his future remains uncertain.

His relationship with Moyes is cordial, certainly better than one could expect after their acrimonious libel case, involving comments in a Rooney autobigraphy, was resolved in 2008.

Moyes is willing to work with Rooney and has urged him to reconsider his options before United return to England from their pre-season tour.
Rooney has listened... but he can still hear Ferguson’s voice in the corridors of power.
So Chelsea's financial ceiling is £30 million? That'll be simple enough for the club to reject. And for anyone concerned about Rooney's fitness, don't worry, his wife shops at Waitrose.

Also, how do I fix the font size?

I wonder if these PR pieces are doing Rooney any favours at all; I mean, that paragraph is akin to: 'Somebody at work might say something nasty about me, sometime; so I want to quit my job & join one of the company's fiercest rivals.' Another in a long line of really weak and transparent excuses. Few would begrudge Wayne a new challenge but it's not a challenge that he's seeking - even this pro-Rooney article unwittingly underlines what appears to be the sad facts: he's grown lazy, and wants his past achievements to count for more than his current efforts.

Oh, and before anyone repeats the tired old defence of "there's no quotes from Rooney"...you're welcome to continue insulting your own intelligence; don't insult mine.

In tomorrow's episode: 'New away kit makes me look portly - so I want to leave.'

Are we really assuming that any piece that is even slightly defensive about Wayne is a pr piece by Stretford and co.?

Rooney is leaving because he doesn't have a first team place. He's a striker and RVP is a better striker then he is. I think that after his 'this club lack ambition' rant, SAF had decided to screw him well. He knew that the time of playing formations with 2 strikers is over + he also knew that Rooney lacked the adaptability and will to move into another position.

This issue is out of Moyes hands.

I don't think fergie decided to screw him over. He just saw an opportunity to sign the best player in England and took it.

There is an inevitable meltdown coming, the excuses are getting worse, and very shortly the toys will be well and truly out of the pram, Its going to be fecking hilarious watching him loose his shit.

Half of Rooney's own problem(nevermind if you believe he's been treated a little badly or not), he's simply not applied himself totally.
He doesn't seem to get he needs to really hit the gym if he wants to stay match fit. Do that, and and find some form, and there is no way you could drop him.

Knowing fan sentiment toward Rooney is a at a pretty low ebb, the PR strategy of targeting Sir Alex isn't indicative of a loyal player set on remaining. That said the concerns are a bit half hearted so i do wonder how seriously it is being pushed by Stretford or if the papers have taken a genuine however minor gripe and run with it.

I just heard the tail end of a conversation when Alan Brazil was questioning the sense in Rooney playing a round of golf? The hamstring injury must've been rather slight to non-existent or the player is demonstrating a lax regard for his rehab if true.

Yeah there's pictures of him in the papers playing golf yesterday.

If it is true that Rooney was playing golf yesterday, reportedly 10 miles from Chelsea HQ.
If he can play golf, why is he not still with the team , he can play he can train.
Not sure him plying near Chelsea is important, but why there , there is many excellent quality courses in and around the NW he could play on.

This is the most bizarre thing ever - so what that she shops at Waitrose and buys fruit, lean meat and brown pasta. Its not the food, its the smoking and drinking the fat bastard needs to cut out
