Not knowing the clubs policy on bonuses or any specific clauses in Rooney's contract there is yes a degree of variability there.

The figure quoted does you would think rule out anything above 220,000 a week.

200-210k is possible, so is 10,000 in the other direction of course.
It definitely rules out anything over £220,000. His earnings average out at a maximum of £217,000.

I always had Rooney's wage down at £180k. The only way I'll be convinced its any more than that is if its ever detailed in some financial accounting.

A couple of things which strike me over the reporting of his salary:

Firstly was it not simply a matter of a journalist searching his newspaper's records or previous articles?

Secondly 200,000 or something a little higher wouldn't exactly lack for impact in reporting, it represent one of those milestones in people's minds after all.

ETA: RVP is said to be on 200,000 basic and Rooney so i understood is on higher than that, although if Forbes are accurate the margin isn't half again or even a quarter as a few journos have written.

The biggest thing that strikes me over the reporting of his salary, since his new deal in 2010, is how newspaper articles, even those from the same paper, can never agree on how much it is.

Someone made a post on here, might have been in this thread even, with a variety of articles mentioning numerous values ranging from just south of £200k a week to little over £300k. Basically, the press don't have much notion what a player earns and make shit up.

As a journalist wrote yesterday 'All this smacks of Rooney's agent seeking one last big payday'; I've seen precious little so far to suggest that the journalist is mistaken.

I think there's more to it than that. He's on over 200k per week at present and still has 2 years left on that whopping contract. Why would there be such sudden urgency to force a move? It can't just be money.

So, what's the latest in here then? Is there a chance Rooney will go to the Chavs next season then? How long does he have left on his contract?

Not really been following this saga.

We've rejected one bid from Chelsea already, apparently they're going to make another one this week which will be turned down too.

Wayne is angry, confused and paranoid.

Also, the Mirror claims that we'll sell him after the home game v Chelsea.

Chelsea will at the very least match his current pay, the big difference is that Stretford would get a cut from the signing on fee, which he'll not get if Rooney stays. At the end of the day, it's all about Stretford stringing Rooney along for his large payday. Rooney will go along with it as he'll find it easier to start games at Chelsea.

The one thing I'll always say is these 'quotes' from Rooney come across as fabricated by his advisors.

A couple of weeks ago Moyes said he and Wayne had visited each other's houses and met at Carrington.

The recent angry and confused thing said otherwise. It's a PR disaster from Rooney's camp and because he's signed to these people he can't actually come out and tell us how it is.

And this isn't me defending him, but I genuinely believe he's a bit like Michael Jackson but slightly less nuts, just doesn't know how to handle himself and is reliant on advisors and agents.

But on the flip side, I think the Madrid omission may have triggered something between Rooney and Sir Alex on a more personal level. Since then he hasn't had his ego tickled and with those money grabbing agents of his, they'll be manufacturing anything they can to pocket a few million.

Could well be. Some players, who get extremely minted practically before they're allowed to drink, grow very reliant on such people. They're not too bright to begin with, perhaps, and they don't exactly educate themselves much as they go along either. It's no excuse, but it would explain a lot.

The ransom incident a few years ago was clearly orchestrated, to the point where Rooney himself went and apologized to his team mates for seemingly putting them down. In fact, of course, he hadn't thought ill of either them or the club's ambitions - just followed a script he probably didn't write much of himself.

In a way I hope he's brighter than we tend to give him credit for - even if that means he's more of cnut too: Ending his career with us (which has been a great one, can't say anything else), going to Chelsea of all places, mainly because a feckin' leech of an agent wants to line his pockets - well, that's nothing short of very sad.

Well, sad within the context, that is. Not Michael Jackson sad, just sort of - pathetic.

You're JOKING. No way.. You cannot be serious?!

edit:  Post #20000 of the thread.

I wonder if the amount of posts in this thread will match the number of pounds sterling Rooney trasnfers for.

You're wondering that when we only have 20 thousand posts in this thread? Are you some kind of retarded goblin?

Why do Madrid not seem to be interested in Rooney? Pairing him and Ronaldo up again seems like a no brainer if Rooney is available IMO.

Yeah it's a lot. Maybe the number will represent the total amount of times Wayne could have squashed the transfer rumours.

We should've sold him by the pound before he got fit for his medical pre-season.

My guess is that they would have already sounded out the player considering they are already short in that position and his representatives will have told them that he and his family do not want to leave England and are set on moving to London.

Which makes you wonder why we are still interested in Fabregas.... :)

Or they just prefer Suarez and don't want Rooney

Rooney won't be sold.

That's my sudden, baseless prediction that I'm basing on nothing but a hunch but will repeat it with "I told you so" many, many times if after August 31st he's still here but revert to "he was always going" if he does.

Because our scouts watched the premier league last season too? :p

Seriously though, I'd rather have Zlatan at the moment aswell, taking Rooney's form into account and everything.

As long as Benzema stays, I'm not too bothered about which striker we sign.

Buying Zlatan is the assurance you won't win the CL though. However, you'll win your league!

I hope you are right, I'd be £2k better off.

What was the bet?

That's a lot of money, how much did you bet?

It was back way before Ferguson announced he wanted to leave and there were murmurs going around that he was unhappy. I'd just opened a bet victor account and had a free matched bet up to £25 so I shoved £25 on Rooney going to Madrid at 40/1. From what I remember he was 4/7 to still be at United (1st Sep), 25/1 to City and Chelsea and 40/1 for Barca and Madrid.

What about Suarez Vato?

 Shit forgot about that, you're right, screw Zlatan, we want la decima!

I'm actually quite serious about that, don't think he's worth his price tag and exhuberant wages at the moment.
