Just reject any bids from Chelsea please.

I don't care what United do with Rooney other than that any more - just tell Chelsea to feck off. Again and again. In fact use the same wording of the same statement each time.

We've been hearing all week from "sources" close to Wayne about how he's angry and confused, now he's paranoid about Fergie, apparently.

Rooney's camp seem desperate.

£40million would be a very fair offer, doubt they would go much higher than that

Moyes has got to resolve this before our season starts mid August. Make a confirmation he's staying, or accept a high offer and tell him to Foxtrot Oscar. The sooner we do this, the more time we have to find a replacement for his position; do not feel comfortable playing with 3 strikers in a season, especially when we prefer to play 2 up front.

In summary we have sentiments purported to come from Wayne which on the one hand undermine the present manager and on the other carry negativity aimed at his predecessor.

Wow. New story already? Guess Rooney's 'people' cottoned on to the fact nobody was buying the 'angry and confused' garbage so now they're trying to say Sir Alex's continued influence means he has to leave. Its actually getting quite funny now, right? We could almost play a game of guess what they'll try to spin next, once this latest line falls flat.

Kagawa could play centrally so it's not three - he could just slip into Rooney's role with Welbeck/Chich still on the bench.

We don't need to replace Rooney IMO, a midfielder and a winger are more urgent than another forward.

Part of me wants to wait until August 27th to sell him (if he is going to Chelsea) so he can't play against us at OT

Would anyone not accept 40m for Rooney? WR8 excluded.

I think loads wouldn't accept it tbh, theres a lot who just don't want to sell to Chelsea at any price.

I would accept it though, we aren't getting higher than that anywhere else and I just want him gone now

I'd rather not sell to a English club, but atleast the price been quoted is starting to get close to what his current market value should be.

More unsubstantiated bull from papers purporting to know what Rooney thinks.

And a complete absence direct communication from Rooney in months with the exception of a non-story about his Twitter profile.

Also worth mentioning is that not a single newspaper or broadcaster has once claimed that Rooney wishes to stay at Manchester United? To mu knowledge the number of times we have seen "I want to stay" attributed to him is zero.

Let's not pretend that Rooney/his people are not in any way feeding the flames of this story.

From foreign clubs I will be delighted if we get that kind of money. Would accept it from Chelsea too but better if we get an offer from outside of EPL.

£40m with no strings attached, yeah i think i might.

I';d like to complete the deal once the league is under way and cut into pre-season if possible, no need to make things easier for Rooney or Chelsea.

Why would they? If Rooney ended all this press his name is no longer in lights. The papers no longer print trash stories to try and wind everyone up.

Not, United have shown that throwing money around is not the trump card. Having players with title winning experience and philosophy of the club in their DNA from a young age is.

I'm not pretending.

Well would you like to explain why virtually all the press in the past two months has had a pro-Rooney slant? By which I mean, presenting the reasons for Wayne's dissatisfaction rather than pointing out the flaws in each & every proffered reason? Don't you think it beyond coincidence that the vast majority of press stories concentrate on Rooney's feelings instead of a) offering a balanced account of the situation and/or b) an updated version of the old 'Furious Fergie' routine which portrays United's anger at the player's behaviour?

It's one thing supporting Wayne Rooney & castigating an expedient media; quite another being naive about the media's curious coverage; surely common sense suggests that the press are being briefed by Wayne's representative(s)?

I would accept no bid from a PL club.

From a foreign side I would only now because of the past week, with the Moyes comments followed by Rooneys confused and angry stuff,

It's no coincidence. A balanced account of the situation isn't interesting at all to the media - that much is clear, no matter whose side one happens to be on.

Here's an honest question: What's the angle here, from the viewpoint of Rooney's "camp"? He wants out, let's presuppose that. So, what does he gain from his "camp" leaking stories to the media (that he's angry and confused, the implication being that United have - somehow - treated him unfairly)? See, I may be thick but I don't quite get this: Does he want sympathy from United fans? Or fans in general? His goal, presumably, is to leave the club - why does he care so much what the fans think? They don't like him much as it is, and they will like him even less when he leaves, regardless of any fairytale his "camp" might spin.

Is this directed at the club? Is he trying to force them to sell him? Or fishing for an improved contract? But surely he communicates with the club beyond leaked stories of anger and confusion in the media? What can these leaks attain that other forms of communication can't? To me it seems that whatever goes on in the media is almost exclusively for our benefit, the public, the suckers who spend far too much time interpreting any whisper that gets put out there. I can't believe the club care one bit what rumours are circulating regarding Rooney's state of mind: They have his number, surely? They can talk to the fecker and ask him exactly how angry and confused he is, can't they?

I'm not being deliberately naive and disgustingly coy here, believe me. I'm genuinely curious: What's the logic behind this strategy?

More money imo, going off the unexplored evidence you suggest alone to me says 'payrise'. It is either that or the media making up lies to sell papers. This 'saga' is great for people to wum about Rooney and continue to read about it.

You don't think it noteworthy that it hasn't occurred even once, at least to my recollection?

And so you believe that these weeks of stories find their justification in Rooney's ego [which is considerable and i agree is playing a role here] rather than any desire to leave the club, or that the reports are fabricated to make money?

Would it not make for better copy if two opposing arguments were up against each other?

One plausible theory is that the object of the negative PR is to make Rooney's continued presence so distasteful that the club feels compelled to spit him out.

Ably assisted by either stupid or complicit journalists.

Not every report has its origin in guidance from Stretford and co of course, for whilst they may deny it i think we can be pretty confident that they football journalists apply quite a measure of creative license to their stories when the moment calls.

No, why would it? Today's "now now now now'" mentality is living proof of that. If they are running the presses for 24hrs straight spouting bollocks all you have to do is look at the caf's rather embarrassing stalking of Ed Woodward to see why they would do it. Media doesn't sleep these days, nearly every person of note has a 24hr public connection to the whole world.

More money imo, going off the unexplored evidence you suggest alone to me says 'payrise'. It is either that or the media making up lies to sell papers. This 'saga' is great for people to wum about Rooney and continue to read about it.

But you don't actually need to buy a newspaper to follow the saga, who does that sort of thing anyway?

A few points which would leave me to wonder where the motivation for a payrise might come from:

*Wayne is already the highest paid player at the club on somewhere between £220-250,000 / week by my reckoning.
*RVP recent arrived with great debut season to his credit which saw him standing tall at the top of player hierarchy if you will.
*Rooney on the other hand with question marks surrounding his dedication to fitness and general form during 12/13.
*Despite him still finding his feet in English football Kagawa's presence also suggests that an heir for the No 10 position is being readied.
*The implied insult to hsi team mates in some of the comments attributed to him and disruption caused by this situation.
*His age and the doubt whether he could even justify even his present salary let alone a higher one.
*When this PR campaign began there existed plenty of wealthy clubs on the continent for the United to offload him to if necessary.

What would fuel the conviction among Rooney and his advisers that the player would secure a payrise and that now as the moment to push for it?

Are you suggesting that you believe Rooney to be fundamentally loyal to the club and that the sole driver is greed either on the part of Rooney, Stretford, or both?

Site hits, papers. It's the same thing. People are going to click and pass on a stupid headline regardless if it is a lie or not. Even when the article says feck all that the headline suggests in it.

He's up for a contract renewal soon. The club has probably said 'you're getting a new contract in accordance with club' and not whatever you want as a 'last big contract' silly money offer.

Don't know who reads the Standard here. It's usually pretty shite but they have a couple of good writers, Dan Jones being the pick of the bunch IMO. This is a good little article about Wayne and his current predicament.

http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/spo...ho-cant-see-thats-a-rubbish-idea-8716584.html

Where I live in Battersea, there used to be a very cheerful street sweeper. I say ‘used to’ because I haven’t seen him for a while. But that’s not the point. The point is that this street sweeper always seemed to be in a good mood.

Every day you’d see him, trundling around with his cart, sweeping up dog eggs and crumpled Coke cans, scratching dirty wads of used chewing gum off the pavement and piling fag ends into plastic bin bags.

He was always good for a chat and, if you got him going, he’d tell you all about his family and his kids, of which he had several, all living in a house somewhere down Streatham way, I think. A happy man. I have been thinking about him every time I read a newspaper story about Wayne Rooney.

According to the Office of National Statistics, the average street sweeper in Britain earned £17,727 last year. Rooney, hoofing a ball around for Manchester United, earns about £35,000 a day. In other words, it would take my litter-picker a month to earn what Rooney earns in an hour. And yet one goes about whistling, while the other sulks. Go figure.

Now, of course, what I am presenting here is a false argument, even if it is a tempting one. You don’t need to be Charles Dickens to work out that they don’t sell happiness in the shops. There are, I am sure, as many miserable millionaires as there are beaming paupers in this world. It’s like Biggie said: mo’ money, mo’ problems.

All the same, it is impossible to read a word about Wayne Rooney v Manchester United without feeling that Rooney is behaving in a grotesque and quite childish fashion.

It’s not about his simple, gross income. It’s more to do with the dazzling solipsism on display. Rooney seems honestly to believe that he is the best player Manchester United possess and that they somehow don’t or won’t see it.

He seems to think that the club ought to build their team around him and him alone: a player with obvious fitness issues, a history of injuries and a terrible attitude.

It is true that he has scored many, many goals in the past and also that he used to be a hungry player, capable of winning matches on his own. But nine years at Manchester United ought to have been enough for him to realise that this counts for nothing.

As everyone from Paul Ince and Andrei Kanchelskis to David Beckham and Roy Keane will tell you, the past is the past and when United players start to trade off it, they are very soon gone. “Manchester United isn’t about Wayne; Manchester United is about the team, the club,” said David Moyes this week. He has been at the club for 18 days and he knows the score. After nearly a decade at United, Rooney still hasn’t worked it out.

So it seems that Rooney will sooner or later follow all those other illustrious names out of the door. But where? I must confess to being mystified at the prospect of Arsenal bidding for him.

A less Arsenal-ish player I can barely think of. He is 27. His form has probably crested. His fitness is a problem. If he is mercurially talented, he is not exactly the most classically technical player in the world. His wage demands touch a million a month. He isn’t even bloody French. Is this the same Arsenal we’re talking about?

Chelsea I can get my head around, just about. The Chelsea team over the last decade have been full of what we might euphemistically call ‘big characters’. All the same, even if United were to sell to a rival, buying star strikers with big reputations from clubs in the north-west has not exactly been Chelsea’s greatest transfer strategy. Roman Abramovich has made a bid but surely somewhere deep down he will worry that he is circling the Croxteth Torres.

Still, it’s his money to squander and, with Paris St-Germain having just bought Edison Cavani and Monaco Radamel Falcao, there aren’t too many other places Rooney could conceivably go.

Maybe he’ll just turn up in a couple of seasons alongside Andy Carroll at West Ham. Or maybe one day we’ll see him trundling the streets of rubbish with his dust-cart and brush, the richest street sweeper on earth, finally with a smile on his face.

enjoyed this.

Then surely you take stock of last term's performances and set out to have a blinder between August and December before approaching the club for talks, after all there would be no guarantee that RVP might not get an injury or start the campaign flat for some reason.

Another thing here could be that whilst Rooney's desire for a fresh challenge is innocent enough the club he has set his heart on is Chelsea, a manager/the board would i think try to facilitate the exit of a long standing servant were there no baggage so to speak [albeit with as much profit everyone]. If Rooney had walked up to Fergie and Gill and expressed his hopes for one last hurrah with a foreign team such as PSG say, this mess would have been resolved weeks ago.

Nobody knows, hence media spouting bollocks, fans speculating. Merry-go-round of shite.

I don't do anything? Or do you mean the club. He played alright around the times he was injured in general. So it's naught really to me.

To clarify, by you i mean Rooney or in a wider sense he and his advisers.

The interpretation of his level of performances has been long debates, in short though it wouldn't IMO at least make for the strong position necessary to retain his present deal or improve upon it. If it was a contest of who blinked first Stretford miscalculated by many months.

You think he wants more cash, i suspect he wishes to be elsewhere for whatever his reason in, we'll hopefully have some idea in less than two months eh. *shrugs*
