I think if we hold out long enough Chelsea could go huge with their bid.Let's not forgot these buffoons bought Torres for £50 million. We're dealing with a chairman who doesn't haggle rationally if he really wants Rooney he'll pay all sorts to make sure he gets him.

You can forget Mata as part of any deal, he won't be going anywhere. Absurd and irrational paper bollocks.

In recent memory, have we ever sold a key player to a domestic rival? I can't think of anything.

Silvestre to Arsenal, and Tevez to City - but we had no say in that.

Would set an odd precedent.

Mata is probably Chelsea's best player so they're not going to let him go. I think our club will be looking for a fee in the region of Torres's if there is any chance.

Micky Quinn: "Rooney needs to stimulate himself."

Rooney fanboy caller to Talkspor: "Rooney is a fitness fanatic."

Its simple - Sell Rooney to Chelsea for £15 million + Mata. Then sell Mata to Barca for £25million. Buy Cesc for £30million, and then Moyes could use the remaining £10million plus a little bit extra to buy Fellaini (he's the ex Everton boss so he'll have a word), then finally use the Ronaldo transfer money to buy Ronaldo.

We should let Rooney join Chelsea only if Mata is involved in a swap deal. But history suggests these swap deals dont often materialize. And its not like we can get £60m for Rooney from anyone. So the best option for us is to either keep him or to sell him abroad.

Zenit should have £50M to spend now after selling Hulk to Monaco.

Rooney to Russia then?

I know, I know but it's been a ridiculous summer and I am fecking tired of Rooney and his antics

I'm sick of it too but we can't just go selling players on the cheap just out of frustration.

We know we hold all the cards here.

What about the three behind Rooney, 4 into 3 doesn't fit.

Rotation. Squad depth has been one of Chelsea's biggest problems of late.

Oscar, Hazard and Mata all played regularly last season, with Schurrle as well, would they be happy with constant rotation? They have other players as well. We really have to try to get Mata out of this.

There wont be any need for constant rotation. 4 players for 3 spots is perfectly fine. all of them will get loads of game time. I understand you want Mata, everyone does but swap deals are very rare mate.

Are we now operating under the belief that there's no future whatsoever for Rooney as a United man?

Hopefully. It's sad that it's come to this, that twice he has wanted to leave, but he has and now we aren't reliant on him, it's time to get rid. We don't need the Rooney we saw at times last season on the wages we currently pay him, the same way we didn't need the Tevez we had in his final season. And they both may go onto success at a rival domestic club, then so be it. United will be go on without Rooney.

Plus, I now couldn't bear to see him break a true club legend's record, in surpassing Bobby Charlton's top scorer record, which he surely would do if he stayed

Agree mate, it's just if we lose Rooney, we need a replacement lined up before otherwise it will become a problem.

We'l need to get someone in but we dont need to replace him directly. RVP with Kagawa behind him is the way ahead. But yeah, if we sell him, we need to get a top left winger in. A CM is a must regardless.

I like Mata, but can't see United wanting him as well as Kagawa. Give Kagawa this year and he could be every bit as good as Mata. He's not come close to his Dortmund form yet.

Where did this Mata part ex come from, is this made up or has it been leaked out and Chelsea are trying to deny it?

The statement from Chelsea is suggesting that the United camp made it up/leaked it.

Wow, it seems we are now playing some sort of a game, and about time we started getting our hands dirty especially when Barca/Real do it every year.

I'm sure you'd be happy to give us Rooney in exchange for 100 million and Jessica Alba's phone number. That's about as likely as us getting rid of Hazard or MAta.

If you are desperate for Rooney, as Mourinho suggested, then we hold all the cards, so you either give us Mata or you can eff off.

And before you say it, we don't want crap like Torres, Ba, Luiz in exchange.

We'll get him and it will be a straight cash deal. You'll fleece us no doubt (that's the whole point of all this sillyness) but we've not really got a limit to what we can spend. He'll be a Chelsea player soon enough.
