I can just imagine Moyes spinning around in his chair, making weird sounds and laughing away as he throws random things against the wall. He's probably actually really demented and has just managed to hide it so well over the years, or at least keep it confined to Everton. It would be great if after 20 odd years of our total professionalism, it all suddenly broke down overnight, with Moyes launching 30 transfer bids in a week - none of them serious - leaking out bids that never happened with players who aren't interested as swap deals, increasingly mental and dangerous press conferences etc. Obviously it's not got anything to do with Moyes at all, but I like to think that somehow this is all him, undoing everything we've ever known because he is a master troll.

Btw I'm sure it's all a co-incidence that Rooneys anger and confused came on the same day when we rejected a bid for him

Chelsea blaming United for the Luiz/Mata rumour? Guarantee journos will have been told about the bid, but one of them has decided to start whispers of the player + cash deal.

Was always a ridiculous rumour - why on earth would we sell our best player? The numbers alone rated Mata as worth 5 million less than we paid for him - absurd.

Not really, they rate him at about 25m. Bit of a dumb thing of you to say as well, why on Earth would we sell our best player?

That counts internationals as well. I'm not sure what he did against Tahiti should really factor into this.

So remove the international...what are you left with....an incredible goals/assist record that is barely affected by internationals? Yes.

If this would happen to be a calculated leak to get back at chelsea for talking about rooney, i would absolutely love it...keegan style!

Even though we all knew Mourinho would start a war of words with Moyes and/or us, I didn't expect it to happen this quickly.

'You wanted the new Alex Ferguson? Say hello to the new Harry feckin Redknapp lads!'

Is this Chelsea backtracking for fear of unsettling their players, now that the bid has been rejected?

Why would United make up an swap offer, and throw clown head in the mix?

He's probably doing laps around the outside of Old Trafford now, in a golf cart, just talking absolute bollocks to any press company that will listen.

There is a goal and an assist in internationals, all against Tahiti. Which means that he score 20 goals and made 28 assists.

I don't doubt he's a good player. I doubt the legitimacy of the stats being used here. He had 13 Premier League assists in a possible 38 games. I don't believe for a second he got 22 more in other competitions.

Ha ha, if United made up the Mata link to embarrass Chelsea a bit then I think it's great.

The thing about Rooney is that he'll want to play and play well wherever he is this season as the World Cup is on the way, with him being English and the prospect of him being back in form trying to impress for the World Cup his marketing value is next to none, especially with him being English.

An inform Rooney is hugely marketable and is something we were missing last season, I don't think we'll sell because of this. If he impresses then we're in poll position to offer him an extension next season, if he does want to leave then we'd have just had a good year out him (a crucial year with it being Moyes' first) and could potentially trigger a bidding war between some of the bigger clubs who don't seem interested this year and if he does have a lacklustre year then it won't be such a problem getting rid.

We should flog him to arsenal and ask them to throw arteta into the bid and I'd be happy with that....theres no way arsenal would be willing to let go of ramsey or wilshire but they might be tempted to ditch arteta if they got rooney for it but probably not...they could always buy back song if they ditched arteta!

Stat bunker give him 13 premier league assists. ESPN give 17. I don't believe the stats being given for him.
Assists are totalled differently by different stats sources. Some include penalties won, some include deflected passes, some include shots/crosses that led to own goals.

In some way he'll have been the last pass/shot/fouled player for between 50 and 60 of Chelsea's goals in the last two seasons in all comps.

Believe that or I'll steal your dog.

This shit is fun.

At this point, I couldn't give a feck if we were to lose Rooney. After having lost a manager that has been at our club my entire life, losing this little runt doesn't phase me in the slightest.

It seems extremely unlikely to me that Chelsea would include Mata in the offer, who's arguably better than Wayne and with more years left in the tank. I'd bite their hands off if they were offering 10M and Mata. Couldn't really give a toss about Wayne, don't want to sell him to an English club though (unless we were to get Mata back).

That would be my guess. Unless they were just trying to force Chelsea into making a statement of intent.

Where are the stats coming from? It was 35 earlier.

35 was from wiki which likely was wrong. The stats Hectic posted are from espn, and there only 1 goal and one assist were from internationals. You are counting only Premier League.

I think the relationship between him and the club has broken down, I have read the Moyes statement in full nowhere as bad as the press has made out. I feel Rooney wants that indispensable status he had before which can only be earned on the pitch.

Any site that counts winning a penalty as an assist should be rendered null and void. There is no way Mata had over thirty assists last season.

Does that mean we all like Rooney again?
No it means we laugh at Chelsea being angered by this false information which they pin on united, even though they've openly discussed signing a player under contract despite saying they wouldn't talk about players under contract.

I see this as a non starter.

United want cash and not a player. If we sell Rooney and replace him with Mata - we would then need to adapt the way we play, Mata plays in a similar position to Kagawa. We would still be one striker short. So we would have to go and buy a striker anyway so we would end up with two players instead of Rooney.
