Doubt it was Mata offered, probably Luiz out of the two of them. Id accept Mata and 10m any day, not Luiz though.

They will make another bid, what a signing he would be.

Right now Mata is a better and younger player than Rooney and would improve us massively.

It would possibly be the most senseless deal in ... ever.

Surely Chelsea aren't that stupid.

Yep this is why I think the story is BS. Surely Chelsea aren't that stupid to do that to their best player? What kind of message would it send to Mata about his worth at the club if the bid failed like the papers are reporting :wenger:

If we rejected Mata plus 10m it would be epically retarded. Imagine Mata cutting in from the left, linking up with Kagawa and RvP.

I can't imagine why Chelsea would want to get rid of such a wonderful player, unless Mourinho has taken a dislike to anything Spanish.

There have been rumours about him not liking Mata since he came back to Chelsea.

What we can therefore conclude is there isn't anyone, who is a fan of this club and is sane, that wouldn't accept a bid of Mata + £10 mil for Rooney. Thus, I can be fairly confident that this bid never happened....

Unless the one retarded wankpot who would reject it sits next to the United fax machine....

Which is why it won't happen.

If it's true that we have turned down £10m + Mata then it is clear we are unwilling to sell to a domestic rival.

Whether we would be happy to sell abroad or if the 'Not for sale' stance is exactly what it says on the tin is still up for debate.

So far, little interest to test this.

I love how all the papers are putting Mata and Luiz in the same "high profile player" category, where in reality we'd bite Chelsea's hands off for 10m + Mata but likely tell them to go shove a dildo up their arse if it was Luiz.

Nope.

That will forever be Barcelona signing Ibra for a boatload of cash and Eto'o.

Maybe not the correct thread to discuss this, but this isn't the first noise I've heard about Chelsea selling Mata. What's the reasoning there? Clearly their best player last season and very popular with the fans.

You'd hope so. With the strange Fabregas bid, and now this, things are looking pretty bad at the moment. Let's hope the club knows what they are doing.

I refuse to believe our board would be stupid enough to offer Mata, arguably one of the leagues best players plus cash for Rooney. I would be absolutely raging. Luiz makes sense, not a Jose player at all and United need a midfielder. Not sure it makes complete sense from United's point of view.

Oh god please let that happen!!! We could make millions on fellaini and Luiz wigs alone!
We could put them as in CM with Ando once for the craic..

Bye bye Torres!

Mourinho doesn't like anything Spanish does he? Swap deals never happen but we should try to push this one through if possible.

We should be chewing Chelsea's arm off for Mata. He'd improve us far more than Rooney would improve Chelsea, so there's not a huge deal of risk there.

We'd have the same chance of signing Fabregas as we would Mata, even in exchange for Rooney and the chance of either would be nil. It'll have been Luiz who was offered if anyone but when was the last time a player exchange + cash transfer happened? Gallas / Cole is perhaps the last one I can remember so it is possible but unlikely.

If it was a choice between Fellaini and Luiz who would it be?

If this is their first offer, it's a sign of how much they want Rooney btw.

Very sane to turn it down and fleece them for more.

Ok, £15 million and Mata and Luiz and that sexy doctor they have on the bench.

I can't stop thinking about the fact that there is a chance, no matter how small it is, that we have rejected the chance of getting Juan Mata (plus 10million) for a player we no longer want or need.

If this ever turns out to be true, I may be driven to kill....

Press association have reported it now. Seems to me that we maybe had a choice between Mata and Luiz? If we turned that down...feck me.

So this is the summer where managers are playing too much football manager.
