I don't think the cash + player offer is legitimate anyway. Very rarely do those kind of deals actually take place.

BBC are saying it too :wenger:

Chelsea are understood to have offered £10m in cash plus a player, thought to be either Juan Mata or David Luiz, in part exchange for the 27-year-old.

What a monumentally thick decision from the club if we rejected this bid.

£10m + Mata!? This can't be right! Why would we say no to that!
To get a better deal, obviously, but still.

By all accounts, Mourinho doesn't fancy Mata or Luiz. Mata + cash would be very acceptable.

Guess it just depends on the "cash" amount.

If we're getting Luiz then it's absolutely the right decision.

There is literally no way this bid involved Mata. (I mean, Mata or Luiz? clearly they plucked those from thin air.)

But IF it did (it doesn't) and IF we rejected it, I can safely say that yes... the caf actually does more know then the club about football. There's a first for everything though!

They're all reporting this £10m plus Mata or Luiz offer. No idea why United wouldn't go with it - I'd rather have Mata in the side than Rooney.

Surely United would only turn down Mata + £10m if they had other plans for Rooney ie. part of a deal for Fabregas?

Surely we would not be so stupid to reject an offer like that so quickly if it was true!

I'm pretty sure it's rubbish, as we wouldn't turn down Mata even if it did mean selling Rooney to a direct rival. I think we'd easily get the better deal from it. That said, it's likely either they made a bid which doesn't interest us as it's just money, or they did indeed offer Luiz, who we rejected because he is a shit brain and it wouldn't be of any real advantage to us compared to what Chelsea would get.

Woodward is a hard ball negotiator - there was no way he would be willing to accept the opening offer.

Do we do cash plus player transfers?

United probably value Rooney £45m considering Cavani left for £55m and Liverpool want £40m for Suarez.

How much is mata? £25m so that would be about £35m so about £10m short. The other factor is does Moyes want Mata?

Surely Chelsea aren't that stupid.

If everything about this is true (the offer and the rejection of offer) then both parties will look incredibly fecking stupid.

EDIT - that's if it's Mata who is the player in question.

Well we can't be sure whether Mourinho is happy for Mata to leave or not. And he may let Mata go given his need for a No.9 is more pressing that a No.10 type (he's already got Oscar and Hazard).

There is no way Chelsea offered Mata IMO. These player plus cash deals very rarely happen, as it would only take for one player to not agree terms and the deal falls through. I think Chelsea would have just placed an outright bid in for Rooney.

If they're willing to give up Mata that easily let's bid for him anyway, regardless of Rooney.

They probably wouldn't sell to us without Rooney in return but if they're going to unsettle him by offering him around then it's worth a shot.

Our luck Moysie would want the money to buy Fellaini, why in hell's name would you not want Mata, he was one of Chelsea's best players.

10m + Mata would be beyond amazing.

Luiz on the other hand....

If we rejected Mata plus 10m it would be epically retarded. Imagine Mata cutting in from the left, linking up with Kagawa and RvP.

I can't imagine why Chelsea would want to get rid of such a wonderful player, unless Mourinho has taken a dislike to anything Spanish.

feck sake, my stage 3 Muppetosis wants Cash and Sanchez from Barca for Rooney.

the mirror says that chelsea offered 10m + mata or luiz.

Come here, Mata you beauty. The only way we rejected that if we are supposed to get more money or another player. And let them worry about Rooney's bullshit, if he pulls that kind of shit here, can you imagine what he'll do at Chelsea?

I know I said dont sell him to a domestic rival, but only sell him to a domestic rival if it means we get Mata.

I think the same. I dont want to sell to Chelsea but we would be weakening them in the process here. Chelsea would come out of this weaker. It's mental if that's what they are proposing, but we'd be more mental to reject it.
