It's a grade-1 hamstring strain, Moyes confirmed that I think

Yep, he did.

"It's a blow that we've lost him because he's been training well and looking very good. But unfortunately he just felt something in his hamstring.
"We did a check and found a slight grade one injury there, which will probably keep him out for about two to three weeks."

[...]

"So for the benefit of the player the best thing to do was to get him home straight away and quickly into his rehabilitation.
"Remember, when we return from this tour we've still got games in Stockholm, Rio's testimonial and the Community Shield, so he can play ion those games. It's important we get players fit for those games.
"We didn't expect it. But what would be the point in taking any risks? There's no point in taking any risks.
"We'll keep his work up. With hamstring injuries, you can do work in the pool and you can also do work in the gym."

Nor am I..

But if I could choose, then I'd want him gone. Not because I hold grudges, but because I'll genuinely get embarrassed if he's then one winning games and points for us. I can take a lot of banter from opposing supporters, but the one thing I don't want to hear, is that our success depends on a cnutish mercenary. I want us to be better than that.

Couldn't agree more. Seeing a player win games and trophies for us would be more than I could bear.

Mourinho knows his comments will be unsettling for Moyes and Rooney. He isn't an idiot. "I'm not going to talk about other people's players, but I'm still going to gush over Rooney real quick"

Oh the pain of being a United fan, all that horrible banter.

He's so popular out there that I'm surprised we sent him home; would've been nice for the fans to meet him.

Quotes from the Mirror:

David Moyes: “I’ve got to make sure we don’t concentrate on him. Manchester United isn’t about Wayne Rooney. Manchester United is about the team, the club.

“We are talking about him now and rightly so, but what I won’t allow is Wayne Rooney to become more important than the football club and the team because that’s the heart of it.”

Rooney may not be too impressed when he reads some of his manager’s logic for keeping England’s best attacking talent Old Trafford to provide cover for leading marksman Robin van Persie.

Moyes said: “Overall, my thought on Wayne is that if for any reason we had an injury to Robin we are going to need him. Wayne’s got a major role to play because we need to try and get him as many goals as we possibly can. Wayne can play up-top, I think he can play dropped in.

“I want to be able to play the two of them, I want to be able to use Danny Welbeck, Chicarito [Javier Hernandez] as well. I want to try and give myself as many options as possible.

“I’ve said this before, and I’m not joking about it, Wayne could have played in goal. He’s just a natural footballer. He could have been anything. And I think that’s why he is a player who folk say ‘he’s played here, he’s played there’, but that’s because he is a natural, all-round football player.

“Wayne is also the type of player who it’s easy to move around because he is capable of doing it. In a way he should take that as a real compliment, but I’m not sure it’s what he wants to hear because he wants to be a goalscorer.”

Ed Woodward: “I’m not surprised clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal want Wayne – he’s a top player. He’s not for sale and we won’t be selling him.”

“We are not looking to change the way we do things – it’s been a successful formula.

“We want the manager to be investing. We are not in the business of delivering him players. That structure works for some, but not here at United.

“Take Robin van Persie. We went in hard for him even though he was 29. We have never had a policy that we won’t buy older more experienced players and that showed itself with Robin.

“We backed Sir Alex Ferguson – we will do the same with David Moyes.”

Sounds like he will stick with two strikers and keep Kagawa on the left

If you only pay attention to that part of his interview, yes. But if you take into account the stuff that follows, about Rooney being able to play just as well anywhere, he might well experiment with shifting him to a nominally wider role, or midfield possibly, in order to incorporate other players better.

None of the rest of the interview gives any indication Kagawa will play centrally, which is what I am talking about. Which part do you think does that?

Moyes talks about having someone 'up top' and someone 'dropped in', which sounds exactly like the system we played under Fergie. If he was planning on starting Kagawa as the dropped in forward then I would have thought he would mention him when he goes on to mention Welbeck and Chich. The fact that he doesn't seems to indicate that it will primarily be the four strikers rotating for those two spots.

While Moyes stresses that Wayne is an important player, those quotes make it sound as if Rooney isn't his no. 1 choice up front & that Wayne will have to accept being shifted around (if he stays at United), rather than playing in his preferred position.

Further quote from Ed Woodward:

"There are no contract renewals that are being discussed. I am not sitting down with any player on an extension and there is no trigger date in the diary. Would we be afraid to run a contract down? Of course not."

Good news (?) for the hysterics who fear we're about to bend over and allow Rooney to give the club an arse ride. Dave is not a sweet talker, he rightly praises Rooney's strengths, yet makes it bloody clear he demands something from him. I think...no, that's a bit too much: Let's rather say that I have a realistic enough hope that Rooney will actually respond well to this.

Taken altogether, the quotes make it sound like Wayne will have to force his way out, if indeed he truly wants to leave.

'Dropped in', means to me playing behind the main striker. The same role he played mostly last season.
I thought his main gripe was being dropped or playing in midfield.

Sidenote here just talking with a mate Rooney is a better player than Cantona??

Yes exactly, as in dropped in the hole - the position most on here want Kagawa to start in.

I still think this is more debatable than is generally the case on here. Rooney can probably claim to be the more effective all-round footballer, but I think Cantona either had better vision or perhaps was more able to realize the moves he saw in his head. Both brilliant players though.

I didn't notice Eric taking 50+ efforts to score a chipped goal. ;)
