Wayne Rooney | 2012-14 Performances

51 games, 38 starts.
5 league goals in 29 games.

Will the Tévez myth never go away? It's amazing. He was a prick before he left, he regularly contradicted himself in the press, he tried (and shamefully succeeded) to play the fans against Fergie and his performances were fecking shite for the most part. Yes. He ran his arse off but that's about it, during his second season he was our least productive attacking player.

And yet won a place in the team on the back of outperforming Berbatov for the business end of the season, where trophies are won. It was a bad season but he contributed when it mattered most

Interesting article about Moyes when Sir Alex called him to house to tell that he's the next United manager. Worthy of reading:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...n-and-how-he-worried-about-wearing-jeans.html
‘I’d never ever go to a meeting with Sir Alex with a pair of jeans on.’ I’m saying: ‘I can’t do this!’ So that shows how little I knew about it.
“He took me in, took me up the stairs, made me a cup of tea and came out with it. It’s a moment I’ll never forget.

Sounds like a statement from a rape case!

I have not myself ever followed United on one of United's pre-season tours, what sort of reception do you think Rooney is going to receive whether it be those travelling from the UK or our fans based in the host countries?

With Kagawa and Hernandez omitted due to their participation in the Confed Cup he'll be playing more minutes than otherwise might have been the case you'd imagine.

I'll be singing my guts out for every player just the same. The caf tends to have more cluey and cynical people so I'd be surprised if he gets a shit response from the fans. If he even appears mind..

Over here we get feck all of the clued up media. Just the endless stream of bollocks and smoke blowing so I'd say 70-80% of the fans here in Australia know feck all about the whole situation. (Research and data provided by my social circle, cynical view of domestic football media and my own football team).

Don't think he'll be booed. People will be cheering for the team. Especially when they travel to places that are very rarely going to see United, the whole crowd will be stoked. He'd have to come out and call every fan a fat, poor, moron and say he hated United to be booed by a big enough portion of the crowd to be noticeable

You got cynical right in my case, not so much cluey. lol

My feeling was that for the British based fans it's also a holiday so that has to be a factor to the mood in a way. And yes i was surprised to see how many years it had been since these locations had been visited by the team, you're going to have a good time and cheer on the personalities supported from afar.

As we draw closer to the season with the match in Sweden and Rio's testimonial the reaction of the fans will begin to change i think, if the saga is continuing unaltered.

Sport still speculating that Thiago + Villa + 4m (Euros) is all that Rooney would cost. They think he's a bargain, though they haven't mentioned wages yet.

He still sounds too cheap to me and I still don't see any benefit from selling him, especially at these £20-25m valuations,

I think that deal benefits Barca more than us. They get rid of a player who doesn't want to be there (apparenty), a player they don't mind getting rid of to save on wages and another 4m euros? I rather we do a straight cash deal with Thiago. They want Rooney, they come to us on a seperate negotiation

I dont think thats a deal we'd consider, but I do think its a deal that could make sense for us.

Villa replacing Rooney wouldnt stand too much in the way of Welbeck and Hernandez developing and Kagawa getting more time in the hole, due to his age. Any deal that gets Thiago is obviously a heck of a coup. And sending Rooney abroad would stop fans complaining.

But still I dont expect it to be a deal we'd consider because I'm sure Moyes has his own plans and wants Thiago in a straight deal.

Barcelona are idiots if they try to sign any more attackers; they need to spend money on that back four of theirs now.

I've always liked villa but I wouldn't see the point of getting him now. We already have a top number 9 in rvp and we have our super sub in Hernandez, I just can't see the need for him. If nani is off as well Sanchez might be a shout but tbh I'd rather take cash and reinvest elsewhere.

Agree Villa would be a step backwards Sanchez I could understand but in reality would rather keep Wazza if he renews his contract before the start of the season!

Yeah same, would rather keep Rooney unless there was someone realistic of similar, or potential to be the same quality. I don't think we can afford to lose Rooney and Nani, say what you want about them but in the last 3 seasons they've probably had around 100 goals and assists between them in the league alone.

Any decent offer from overseas and he should be sold. Everybody must be completely sick of it. Its clear that in several meetings with moyes he did not say he wants to stay at United. The sideshow has gone on for too long now, a lot of people were pissed off when the club entertained this type of circus for Ronaldo. Rooney is a great player but no Ronaldo. He's utterly miserable and moyes could do without starting a season with this cloud hanging over the squad. An utterly unlikeable person and nowhere near as good as he could have been in recent years due to his attitude. I for one would love a season with a rooney strop every month to dominate the headlines.

Agree that everyone is completely sick of it. He seems incapable of keeping himself out of the headlines. But if he wants to stay I think we should keep him. I said a few weeks back if his heart isn't in it we should cast him off but a player of his quality we could do with. Yes, he might not have fulfilled his potential but he's 20+ goal a season striker and they are pretty rare. As long as he's committed to us I'm happy with him staying. I think half Rooney's problem is that not all his dogs are barking so he's prone to making a few idiotic career decisions every now and then. It doesn't help that he seems to be extremely poorly advised. Like Gary Neville said, half these players out there would be better served without a money grabbing agent and making decisions for themselves, based on football, not on signing on fees, loyalty bonus' and marketing royalties. I'm almost certain that Rooney's initial agitating a move away would have been $$$ focused rather than him going for footballing reasons.

Everyone has an opinion on Rooney, including my 2 year old it would appear.
See Wayne, do you see what you're doing to your loyal fanbase?

^ That is a Sun story waiting to happen you know.

TODDLER IN DIRTY PROTEST ON ROONEY POSTER AS FANS' ANGER REACHES NEW HEIGHTS.

Neil Custis will will hand you the cash himself.

Although the headline is sensationalised, if Rooney was set on staying, there would be no need for those comments from Rio.

Daily Mail - Chelsea said to be preparing a £30n bid which would see Rooney on 240k a week.

As for Rio's remarks, well yes if Wayne was strongly leaning toward staying i doubt he'd have felt the compulsion to speak out.

Full on offensive under way by players to convince him to stay, by the looks of it.

Rio, Giggs, Neville, Cole, Robbo

I think we could be selling Wayne. He doesn't strike me as the type of lad whose mind will change because of what's said by club ambassadors or fellow teammates. He wanted something that the club isn't seemingly giving in return and I think he has made his mind up.

Ideally, he would be told to make his decision before the tour. He has had the whole break to think through. Doesn't make much sense for us otherwise.
In all fairness the club have made it pretty public that it isn't Rooney's decision.

I think he has already made his decision, we are just waiting to see the outcome of it.

Whetehr he is on the tour or not is irrelevant really. We sold JSV to Chelsea part way through our American tour.

Pretty cool stat by the BBC regarding Rio's comments (probably posted already)
