This week can be amazing, but it might be very poor as well.

We could get Nani and Rooney to commit to the club and bring in Thiago. But, we could loose them and miss out on Thiago.

I'm actually getting a bit nervous here...

What are the odds of all three of those things happening though? good news has to come from at least one of those situations. I think..

Arsenal calling United about him and being told he is not for sale is no surprise. Whether we said he was not for sale domestically or at all would have been good to know.

I agree with you, but is still a bit nervous. I hope we hit the jackpot, and all three players is seen at United NeXT season and is happy and motivated.

Where has this come from?

SSN were saying it today during the customary "wait down the lane of the training ground where someone went in hours ago" routine - they said it was a short call as United shot them down immediately.

I keep reading that Chelsea and Arsenal are offering £20m for him when Baines is worth the same amount apparently. If we sell him for anything between £20m and £30m then there is something really wrong with our people. For me we should look for at least £50m for English clubs knowing what Chelsea paid for the injury prone Torres. Also we are selling Nani for £8m when we bought Ashley fecking Young for £17m in the exact same circumstances. It is just baffling.

Just saw that, we'll have to hope PSG firm up their interest otherwise the bdding war between Arsenal and Chelsea won't take the fee as high as we'd like.

Still, a couple of hats in the ring now at least.

Mail:

David Moyes officially began life as Manchester United manager on Monday but is increasingly resigned to the fact that Wayne Rooney’s Old Trafford career is coming to an end.

Mirror:

Fergie's successor is ready to assure star he won't be dropped or subbed for big games.

Funny how each paper has it's own spin on things. Chelsea being linked to Rooney for £25mill, El Shaarawy in some kind of a swap deal involving Torres & Cavani for £45mill. The transfer window has finally arrived!

Sorry but i just can't see a manager of any worth starting their new job by ceding the authority of their position like that. It could only lead to more trouble.

You just know that if he went to Chelsea it would come back to bite us hard

The decision has to be reached primarily based on the advantages for this club, if Moyes believes that reasons are justified we have to treat what occurs at Rooney's destination club as an acceptable risk.

tbh, if Dave has real stones he'd just bin Rooney. Nut the fecker first then throw him to PSG. I couldn't give a feck about him anymore, this bullshit has been going on for 3 years now.

Come on Wayne, tell him you want to leave. Remember the time he sued you? Remember all those bollockings about eating too many Big Macs? Jose would never do that.

The only way we should let him go to Chelsea or City is if they pay absurd money, im talking 40million +, let him go to Arsenal or the rest for 25+

Letting him go to arsenal would be a disaster too.

He would turn out as good a signing for them as RVP has for us.

Except they've a far weaker squad, regardless of who they are likely to sign. They're not a threat next season, Chelsea and City are.

In that case it's stone cold that he isn't leaving to England.

Wayne Rooney: Man Utd star may want new challenge - Mike Phelan
Former Manchester United assistant manager Mike Phelan says forward Wayne Rooney may want a fresh challenge away from Old Trafford.

Rooney, 27, reportedly asked to leave the club at the end of last season, the second such request in three years. Phelan told BBC Radio 5 live: "Wayne is at the greatest club you can be at. Why would you want to jeopardise that? Unless you want a fresh challenge and you feel that challenge isn't being met at Manchester United."

Rooney, who also asked to leave United in October 2010, was linked with a move to Paris St-Germain in April while more recently there has reportedly been interest from Arsenal and Chelsea. He is set to meet with new United manager David Moyes this week to discuss his future. Phelan - who left Old Trafford this summer - admitted that the England man was not at his best last season and does not know how the club's fans will respond.

"That is a difficult one," he said. "You can put the first one down to inexperience but the second one is putting yourself right out there. Somewhere down the line there will be words said, there will be meetings and they will see if it's still alive and worth going for or they'll call time on it. He's come from a fresh-faced 17-year-old and has been under the spotlight for that time and he has delivered. He might have hit a blip in certain performances but he isn't the first or last player to have done that. You have to nurse them through it and hopefully he responds to that. Sometimes you have to crack the whip with him. Wayne has responded as well as he feels he can do for United, and what will be will be - I haven't got a clue."

Former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson persuaded Rooney to stay at the club in 2010 -handing the forward a new five-year contract- and Phelan revealed that the then manager was desperate to keep hold of the former Everton player.

Phelan said: "Every player is entitled to express a desire to want to move on. Any player can do that at any time. In Wayne's case, in the first instance in 2010, he took a lot of advice on that and got steered towards making that call but the manager was terrific. He talked to him and asked why would he want to leave the club? The press conference Sir Alex gave was a bit of a tear-jerker and it was genuine. There was an element that he'd chased this boy and paid big money. He was the boy that could change United."

Some interesting news from the Daily Mail [unusual perhaps] provided that you believe it.

Allegedly the meeting has been put back a further 24 hours, until after the players have undergone pre-season fitness testing.

In the interview quoted above, Phelan doesn't deny the claim that Wayne handed in a request; the truth, or loyalty to SAF? Who knows?

Indeed.

Well seeing as how careful the language has been from the Rooney camp in their denials that is probably in line with a verbal request of some nature.

I thought this was a telling passage in the above interview:
You have to nurse them through it and hopefully he responds to that. Sometimes you have to crack the whip with him. Wayne has responded as well as he feels he can do for United, and what will be will be

The MUFC Academy @mrmujac
While Rooney camp are suggesting they didn't hand in second transfer request...Mike Phelan's interview on 5Live quotes that he did...

I still find it inconclusive but perhaps the boy did.

Hmm. If Rooney genuinely thinks he has responded as well as he can then I guess there's zero chance his attitude will improve? Or that he'll take better care of himself? I want Rooney to stay, but only if he accepts that he needs to improve his professionalism and attitude. These quotes by Phelan make that seem unlikely, no?

So much bullshit right now but two things I am certain of, we wont sell him for under £30M and Moyes will not give him guarantees over whether he gets dropped or subbed.

Somewhat unlikely sully. Personally, I feel Wayne is one of those players where he displays his best when everything is in order. He's quite the emotional character and when you struggle to handle your emotions, it will show in an environment which requires ice-cold precision.

I don't think I've ever seen as many people in one place who have so little of a clue about the professionalism and attitude of a player as here in this thread. But make claims like 'it needs to improve, shocking stuff' etc.

It's as though everyone is present during the entire life of the player..

He's a rhythm player. He needs to be in a rhythm and he ticks over. Move it all around a bit and upset the rhythm and he takes time to get back into the swing of things again.

I agree rhythm player so if he stays how long until he gets his rhythm back took him half a season last time...

Indeed - if he stays in the league, then it's only a matter of time until we get a badge-kissing incident in front of our fans.

He did it to Everton at Goodison don't forget...

Personally im not that arsed in who said what and why? All that matters now is what happens next. If Rooney is going to stay, then he has to start acting more professionally and earn his place along with everybody else. If he is going to leave, then let's get him sold and bring in someone else.

Im hoping we don't end up with one of those tiresome drawn out media dramas that drag on throughout the window. Let's get it sorted quickly, one way or the other, and we can then concentrate fully upon what will no doubt be a very testing beginning to our new era.

There is no actual supporting evidence for people having these concerns then?

I can think of two examples for club and country in the last 12 months.

But if what Phelan said there is also applicable to Wayne's competitiveness in a rejuvenated squad then that could represent an insurmountable problem for United, and it being quite logical for all parties were they to part company to best advantage.

The conjecture about his professionalism has gained some credence since the Mick Clegg interview. He says Rooney could have done more fitness work to improve himself as a player.
