From the Mail & others:

David Moyes will meet with Wayne Rooney and his representatives on Tuesday.

Sources have just informed me that MUTV is currently airing a programme showing all of Wayne Rooney's goals for United.

Nostalgia and farewell to Wayne?

This is why we are keeping Rodders?

wr8 is now in charge of the channel's scheduling?

Wayne Rooney is in fact a lizard from a planet orbiting Gliese 667C?

A last gasp appeal to his ego to get him to stay?

Tomorrow's Daily Mail is now saying that the much rumoured meeting between Rooney and Moyes has been pushed back 24 hours to Tuesday.

Tuesday is a much better day of the week than Monday for a meeting of this nature. Don't sweat it, my friends.

Moyes making Rooney sweat for an extra 24 hours. Treat 'em mean, keep 'em keen. A stroke of genius from our new Scottish overlord.

Rooney is a quality player one of our best if not thee best. I hope everything gets resolved and he buckles down and gets back to his best.

24 hours to unveil some signings before telling him to do one.

"Wayne is one of the most gifted and technical players in the world."

Neymar

"Rooney, wow! Rooney is extraordinary, he could play for Barcelona. And before people imagine headlines like "Xavi says Rooney to join Barcelona" – although, I'd love him to! – what I mean is that he's our kind of player."

Xavi

Some of the Redcafe experts need to give the Barcelona lot a alking to. They seem to be under the impression he'd have no problems fitting into their "tiki-taka" style.

Well if Barca started playing with one up front (like Rooney), it's not impossible. He wouldn't need to involve himself with the play...though judging by his impatience with United's play at times and dropping deep to find the ball, Barca's style may drive him insane!

STEVEN GERRARD

Messi can do some amazing things, but anything he can do Joe can do as well, if not better. He used to shock us in training by doing footy tricks with a golf ball that most players can’t even do with a football. I really fancy Joe for the [player of the year] award this season

The price the team plays is TOTALLY dependent on how much each team wants the player both buying and selling. If the selling team wants the player and has no need to sell him e.g us with Berbatov, Liverpool with Torres, Newcastle with Carroll, Villa with Downing (players wanted to leave but they where on good length contracts and the teams didn't need money) it will take a crazy offer to sign the player. The team who wants him must really have to want the player forget wages and all that. A player that costs 50 million is expected to be a player that wins you the biggest games/championships and will be paid as such there is never any problem as long as they are delivering. No team is thinking 'arrgh Cavani at 55 million but his wages are gonna be £200,000 plus' no they want the fee to go down the wages are somewhat expected for a player of his calibre.

Saying all that I don't think a anybody out there wants Rooney that badly he is definitely an interesting prospect for some (Arsenal mainly) but otherwise we won't get the 40 million he is worth imo. That is why I see him staying on top of the fact that his quality is not easy to replace.

I wouldn't read to much into players quotes in all honesty.

Footballers say stupid things, yes, but you're making an entirely separate point here. Praising a team-mate and praising an opposition player are entirely different things.

With hindsight - absolutely.

I think Real got a bargain to be honest. I know at the time that we couldn't have asked for more, but am sure they are more than happy with the return on their investment.

If you spend £80mill on a player I'd expect the kind of return C.Ronaldo has given R.Madrid. He has scored a goal a game there which is an excellent return but that doesn't make him a bargain. IMO they certainly got their moneys worth but the fee was over £30mill more than the previous highest ever in football so certainly didn't get him on the cheap.

They are indeed, I just find it easiest to treat all footballers as morons......smile and nod politely, which is unfortunate for the minority who aren't mentally subnormal, but that's life.

Maybe he is testing Wayne to see if he will put in another transfer request before the meeting.

Jack Wiltshire on possible signing of Rooney:

"If it happens, it would be amazing," Wilshere told ESPN when asked about Arsenal's interest in the 27-year-old.

"He is the type of player who can win you trophies - and just to see his name on the team sheet brings fear to the opposition. We could do with a little more of that.

"You look at the type of players like Higuain we are trying to bring in and you have got to be encouraged.

"I think we need a few more, not to step right into the team, but to add to the squad."

Arsenal are not signing Rooney. Strange things happen in football, but that would be a truly bizarre move on Rooney's part.

Jack Wiltshire on possible signing of Rooney:

So Jack Wiltshire has been commenting on someone called Jack Wilshere about someone called Wayne Rooney.

Come on, it really isn't that that difficult to get a name right. It's not exactly "Azpilicueta" is it?

That Wilshere quote is more interesting for what he says about Higuain than anything else. I've always wondered to what extent players are kept updated on deals.

Barely I imagine, at least at United I've seen many of our players say they just read what's in the papers like everyone else. That's why you'll see them comment on certain speculation, that and the fact they're usually asked.. There will be exceptions like when we've used Giggs and Neville to try and convince a player to join us for example.

This week can be amazing, but it might be very poor as well.

We could get Nani and Rooney to commit to the club and bring in Thiago. But, we could loose them and miss out on Thiago.

I'm actually getting a bit nervous here...

So there's really only two scenarios - a) he asks to leave or b) he says he is staying. What would the club do if he asks to leave? Tell him no and to see out his contract? Sell him to the highest bidder? What if only English clubs are interested and what if Rooney only wanted to move to another English club? And if he's staying, do we then risk another huge 200k a week contract on a player whose best form may have come and gone? Whatever happens there are going to be disappointed supporters.
