Rodney wouldn't even start for barca.

This is wildly off topic, but it just hit me: Did we miss out on Rodney Wallace back in the day - and how much better was Rodney than Danny? And would Rodney Wallace, in his prime, have started for Barca? I reckon he would've. He should've dropped the "Wallace", though, and just called himself "Rodney", Brazilian style.

(Sorry. I have a fortnight's holiday and start boozing well before five - like Rodney, I presume).

I presume much hasn't changed from a few weeks ago? I.e people defending Rooney.

Genuinely hope I'm wrong.

People are defending Rooney the player. Rooney the person is cnut, everyone knows that

im indifferent to this transfer but if he does go for something like 25 million, something needs serious changing in terms of who is resposible for selling our players. the prices we get are laughable bar the odd exception. even nani, yes is contract ends in a year but 8 million has been quoted! van persie went for 24 with a year left. even back at the time butt left for like 2m i heard ferguson was raging when he heard the press they got and would have preferred keep him than sell him for that. stam and ronaldo are the only ones i think weve received decent money for. what was van nistelrooy, 9 million? beckham, 24? pathetic.

We are not a selling club which means that when a player comes up for sale that means we don't want him that lessens our bargaining position in negotiations as teams know we want rid of whoever the player is. We didn't want Ruud anymore, Ronaldo we got the best deal for because we did not want to sell him. Stam left because of personal issues all these cases are different. Once we want a player gone you can almost assume he is not playing well and hence his value goes down but I agree some of the fees we have accepted have been a joke.

i see your point. i did say i think we got good money for stam. even when you dont want a player though you can surely drain more out of things than weve done in many cases. this would be a prime example. look around the market and the prices players are going for. milner 24, barry 20, the armenian liverpool are after quoted at 20m. and we're linked with selling wayne rooney for 25 million.

Rooney for anything less than 30 million in my opinion is a steal. For what he brings to a club, let alone on the pitch. He's a massive name, England's best player (not saying much I know), brings in crap loads of money in merchandise, works hard usually, should be in his prime and has 2 years left on his deal.

That's the thing about the market looking at other players to value your own doesn't necessarily work. You get what teams a re willing to pay for a player. Those are players the buying team wants and more importantly the team who has them do not want to sell, hence them being more stingy and the buying team more than what the player is worth. In Rooney's case anyone buying would know we want him gone I would still expect 30 million. No one buying is expecting this years Rooney are they, they are thinking of a fit and hungry Rooney he is definitely worth 30 even off a down year he contributed to us winning the title. I don't see many buyers personally so I think he will stay. He is worth more to us here than he is gone.

This is much said but i can think of three regulars consistently better than him and two others who on the hand is in better form domestically, and the other who we'll hopefully build the 2014 team around.

I agree that we should be looking at the 30m mark if possible however to achieve significantly more than that would require a bidding war of which there is little sign currently.

Seriously, if we're constantly reduced to repeating phrases like 'On his day...'; talking about his commercial value; being wary of the potential benefits he might bring to our rivals yet not discussing his genuine current worth to our club as a player then it's very telling.

Going by the last 12-18 months say the England regulars would be:

Cole
Gerrard
Welbeck

The other two were Baines and Wilshere, the latter isn't quite there yet although it won't take much for him to be the focus of the people's normally unrealistic hopes. Rooney may benefit from not being that figure any longer, we'll have to see.

It would make sense to play Rooney behind/beside Welbeck since they were so formidable at the start of 2011-12.

Welbeck wouldn't really warrant a starting place ahead of Sturridge at the moment though, even if he's linked up well with Rooney in the past.

Which was reflected with his selection for the Ireland match, however come the August friendly Hodgson will have to go by pre-season and what he has learnt from past call-ups.

Welbeck was voted England second best player in 2010 [Gerrard won] and he ahs performed well both by himself and on more infrequent occasions alongside Rooney. Assuming he is fit i'd expect him to be in contention.

If Wilshere continues to have injury problems i'd be tempted to try Rooney in midfield anyway [preferably a friendly for starters], can't be worse than some of the alternatives.

So Rooney scores 7 in his last 7 for England including our only goal in crucial qualifying matches against Poland and Montenegro and you're tempted to play him in midfield..

On his day - Rooneys a proper knobhead & goes against everything a United player stands for under Fergies harmonious cosmic atmos...... duuuuuuuuuuuuuuudes!

I guess all the lingering questions about the players, signings, staff etc. will be sorted with in a week of when Moyes officially joins. The uncertainty hasn't been good for the fans.

Hang in there, lads. The day is not too far.

This.

As I said before, for me the telling part is I'm not really that bothered anymore. If he leaves, fine, we'll replace him and move on. If he stays, he's a very good footballer who's valuable to the team if not the club.

I still think that this was just a final boot up the arse for by Fergie and there is not much to it.
He just cant go nowhere but to City realistically and they would have to pay a huge sum on top of his actual worth...whatever that is.

Calm down and use proper words will you?

Agreed.

Few other players in the elite category which he would like to claim himself as being a part of can have the "on his day" tag applied to them so regularly. I can't imagine that even Rooney would want to have the commercial angle used to support him.

I find that the context of a statement can be important in understanding its full meaning.

Sorry lads but text speak is out as is generally atrocious posting. Seems to be rising across the mains at the minute. I've started rolling out heavy infractions for it, so heads up.

head's up doesn't need an apostrophe either. Assume an infraction has been rolled out for that.

Yeah for the thickos out there text speak and typos/mistakes are two very different things.

Is lol banned then? I do use that on occasion.

I'd rather an infraction for mangled text than posting a picture of the muppets in the transfer forum though.

No, the internet wouldn't be the same without "lol" and "wtf" - there are better alternatives I suppose. Really you want to be avoiding "u", "ur", "k", "thx" that type of poxy shit. Also just shit posting like what he was doing is infract worthy in of itself - seriously what the balls was/is he on?

to be honest, most of the repeating of that phrase is done by people complaining about said phrase...like yourself in this case
