None of this Mirror/Talksport propaganda is helping Rooney, in a sense - I imagine the club will take a dim view of it.

Does anyone else find the 20/25 millions pounds figure quoted for him laughable? He is worth much more than that..

Especially considering the fee being touted for Cavani seems to be £40-50million+. He's only a year younger!

Rooney is as good as a player and more marketable. We shouldn't be selling cheap.

But again, we're not Tottenham or Arsenal, we need not worry about how much we sell our players for.

Anything less than £30m for a player of Rooney's quality would be extremely poor business. Ideally, we should be looking for more than that. The Andy Carroll thing is no longer relevant given that good young players are going for absurd figures, so it's not by that benchmark that we should be expecting a large fee.

I'd imagine the only way we'd get a large fee would be selling to a domestic rival, as we'd probably do a cut price job and pack him off abroad to avoid that. Unless PSG are willing to put their hands in their pockets that is, which doesn't seem too likely.

Was sitting in the barbers today and heard on the radio (it might have been TalkSport, does Jason Cundy have a show on there? Sounded like him) talk of Rooney going back to Everton, with someone suggesting that we might pay part of his wages to send him there.

Has his stock really fallen this low, that this is a genuine suggestion? Sounds fecking ludicrous to me.

It is ludicrous, in so many ways. I can't even...

I've always loved Rooney as a player but based on last season he isn't worth more than that when you factor in his wages, and possibly also his resale value.

Rodney's transfer value is limited by the huge wages he would demand to move. This is why Tevez is only "worth" 7 million.

Stung me on a few occasions. Now it remembers Rooney.

I've been getting nostalgic across the board and feck Rooney scored some crackers. The Newcastle Volley is probably my favorite. And the bring down and slot against Arsenal.

Paul Stretford could be Del Boy i suppose.

It was probably a bit like that bar scene for him when Fergie went public about Rooney asking to leave.

All this talk about Rooney only being worth 30 mil is silly. Even with his wages he will bring in more with marketing. He had a bad year for his standard, doesn't mean he is crap. Many players go through it. Maybe Moyes can get more out of him as he has been static in development.

SPORT READERS ON FACEBOOK WANT ROONEY AT BARCA
On Tuesday we asked our readers on Facebook if you would welcome the arrival of Wayne Rooney to Barca

SPORT.ES

Barca seeks a forward header to finish bolster an attack that already is one of the most envied in world football.
Although it does not seem simple Barca go into the dispute over the hiring of Rooney given the huge economic effort has been done to recruit Neymar, the truth is that it is an option that a general love culé the parish, and as you can see in some of the comments our readers sent us through our Facebook page:
FreeSaver Freetaker
"Rooney is the Barca profile, would come together perfectly in the computer game system.'s Dynamic, powerful, has vision, fighter, long press the opponent's defenses and has greatly goal. A crack. Undoubtedly be the best signing of the season ahead of Neymar ".
Ferran Martínez Queen
"It would be a great signing, but if it was some of the current squad forward."
Elvis Soto
"If to Messi and Neymar would be murderers."

Nieto Francis Torres
"It would be a great signing but if it goes for less than 35 million."
Jose Manuel Pons Gallego "It would be nice as would give the strength you need this boat after he left Guardiola to field more pressure would win."
Pako Rodriguez Rivera
"We need a 'killer' and leave the false nine messi midfielder Wayne balls giving."
Marc Campos Estrada
"Rooney is a striker like the top of a pine tree and I think it would be a terrific signing, which would have to sell both Villa and Alexis, the trouble is that to play center forward not going to get because this Messi, Rooney is a striker with a hunger for goal, dribble and power, would come together at the club but only if they are Villa, Alexis and Deulofeu fails (because it is given). "

Christian Nocelo Ballad
"For me it would be the missing piece for a perfect front. Barter Rooney Alexis by now."
Diego Bayon
"It's an excellent player, but for the type of game I think that position is covered. A center forward with weight on the area (plus a bombshell terrible) would Higuain".
Victor Rodriguez
"So the question offends europe ... any team would be happy to have him on staff ... more Barca reason for not having a natural goalscorer."
Israel Vega Cortés
"If you want to make a financial effort, signing another striker, I would opt for Rooney and Thiago proven quality you want to go that ultimately will not have the desired minute, I would make a change, plus a central Wayne with that close the squad. "

"a striker like the top of a pine tree"
blame google translate.

Barca and Madrid are both interested, particularly at the kind of 30m Euro price that's been bouncing around.

Barcelona are waiting for Villa to go, and getting frustrated that he hasn't. I've not heard of any bids for Sanchez but I'm sure he'll gone too, if they get a decent offer. Rooney as front man to Neymar wide and Messi just behind, sounds like a great idea - I've no idea if it would work though. Cruyff doesn't reckon Neymar and Messi will work for long - "can't have two roosters in the dressing room." They still see Rooney as Mr Jumpers for Goalposts who'll help defuse the situation rather than being Cock #3

Real Madrid and Ancelotti are long time admirers. Highly marketable and a talent, if Ancelotti says he wants him, particularly if the Bale and Cavani deals don't happen, I reckon they'll pay more money.

I still can't imagine Rooney at either. A couple of poor games or a run of three where he doesn't score and he'll be on the front covers of the Spanish sports papers as they dissect everything about his eating and drinking habits and his technical skills. Getting back into the team after a run of bad form (that "run" might mean one game) will mean hitting the ground running. Maybe he'd rise to the challenge and we'll be thoroughly disgusted that the fee was set so low. Maybe he'll be at Monaco the following year.

Anyway, does Moyes actually want to sell him? Does he really want to leave?

All good jojojo, but Madrid fans love the 'English trier'. They liked Jonathan Woodgate FFS. Rooney would be eager to please the fans and would not stop running and we know Rooney could be very selfless and could play for the team. Never mind the press, Rooney would be a smash hit in Madrid. I don't know how the Barcelona fans will react to him, especially when he could lose the ball a fair bit when compared to the other Barcelona players.

I don't know how realistic these valuations are, but transfermarkt.de has valued Rooney at €65m.
http://www.transfermarkt.de/en/spieler/goldenerschuh/basics.html

Regardless, I don't see why a price tag of £25m would be touted? It's ridiculously low for a player of Rooney's quality, at his age and the fact that he has 2 years left on his contract.

What were the reasons for Rooney again asking to leave?

I thought it was because he was played out of position, substituted at times and with RVP's arrival is no longer the alpha god at the club. Will a move to Barcelona suit a player with that reasoning? Can someone with his first touch play for Barcelona?

It would be stupid for him to move to Barcelona, IMO. They have a system in place and have already bought Neymar to play in the weakest area of the system for them, as a left sided attacking player in their 4-3-3. Where does Rooney fit? Not in the midfield three as they have Busquets to play in the holding role, Xavi as the play maker & Iniesta to prove the creativity.

In the attacking three? They bought Neymar to play on the left, Messi plays centrally and they have Pedra & Sanchez to play on the right. Will they move Messi to the right to play Rooney centrally? I don't see that. Will he play on the right and excel? Don't see that either.

The Barcelona rumors are just hot air, IMO.

Real make more sense and would be a much better fit. I think he would be a success with them. However, we should hold for a minimum £35m.

Paul Stretford could be Del Boy i suppose.

It was probably a bit like that bar scene for him when Fergie went public about Rooney asking to leave.

Maybe someone should photoshop Fletcher as Rodney and see if Rooney looks like Del Boy if you stick a wig and some gold on him

So where do we stand with Rooney now do we want him gone or not?

Personally I agree with Brwned what he has done is not that unnatural he handled it badly the first time hence this stigma on him now. What Ronaldo is doing at Madrid, what Ferdinand did or Keane did are the same as Rooney in 2010 trying to get the best deal possible but his reasoning was what disgusted fans, your better off being honest we will respect you more for it. Back then it was well played by Ferguson he put him in the spotlight and made him accountable.

I believe now he is unhappy and he may have voiced his displeasure though I doubt he handed in the transfer request but Ferguson has put the spot light on him so he will have some explaining to do at sometime just like in 2010. What I think happened Wayne voiced his displeasure at not playing and Fergie explained why and Wayne did not respond in the way he should as in put his head down and prove himself. Fergie didn't like it so showed him he is not bigger than the club and that all culminated in Fergie saying Rooney has asked to leave which I think he suggested as he would not have known Fergie was retiring. I don't think he will leave now in all honesty just not many buyers and it would hurt us more than help us.

Rio/Keane/Ronaldo managed to edge it out against the club at a time when they were on their prime and key members of the first team. Rooney has forwarded his complaints after one of his worse seasons at United ever. Lets face it, when an injury struck Keane tried to rock the boat again, he was shown the door.

In my opinion Rooney has been handling this issue badly. He complained about the club's ambition when in reality he wanted a pay increase. Such thing has acted as an early warning sign for SAF to start thinking of replacing him and had given our money men the perfect excuse to cash on him without causing an uproar amongst fans.

Moyes is the only person who could give a lifeline to Rooney's career at OT. However Wayne is walking a very tight line.
