He's a fantastic player, but for me it speaks volumes that I'm not even that bothered about this.

The first time he did this it came as a shock, now not so much. It goes to show how much his stock did fall during the first contract debacle.

I still want him to stay, as that would be beneficial to Manchester United, but I won't be devastated if he goes, and if he does I will only regret his departure due to footballing reasons - not sentimental ones.

Honestly, look at these scenes, how can he leave this club?

Having the time of his life on that bus.

More Nike commercial entity than a United player, recently.

Totally agree (with everything you've said in this thread).

Our biggest problem will be getting a decent fee for him. Rooney isn't going to take a pay cut to leave and so it's going to cost someone around £60m to give him the 5 year deal that he will probably want.

I really can't imagine any team without a rich benefactor biting to be honest.

We rarely agree, so we must be right on this one ;)

It is true that his pay packet will be a hinderance to selling him - same reason City couldnt get any takers for Tevez.
The amount of wage space we could free up would mean it might even be worth accepting a reduced fee for him.

Real or Barca could do with a new striker and then you have the likes of Anzhi but I doubt he would want to go there.
There are these Chelsea rumours but the ideal scenario would be for him to go abroad of course.

You're speculating that theres a difference between what he did 2 years ago and what he's doing now. We dont know that and it would seem to be wishful thinking

Just as you're speculating it's the same.

Great contribution as per usual, you absolute fecknugget.

Trying to look for more money doesn't really require being overly calculated over cunning though. It's simple in many ways and may have been engineered by an agent who is looking for more money himself. It was clearly money last time too, despite what he said about ambition.

While I agree that he's immature and I certainly don't hate him, there's not a lot that's "likable" about him. He cheated on his own wife while she was pregnant and he's come across as a bit of a dick on a number of occasions with the previous transfer request etc. He's not necessarily a terrible person, but he's hardly a likable one either.

Right, yes, that's what I said about his agents. They're calculated, cunning and money motivated. It's clear as day they filled Rooney's head with talk of ambition in order to make him hold the club to ransom. Rooney's immature and impressionable. He's not a role model as a human being, but I'd happily see him remain at the club. I expect most people would be in time once their initial anger settled.

Some of Stretford's previous dealings with Wayne Rooney (BBC):

On Wednesday, Paul Stretford was quizzed by Ian Mill QC, acting for Proactive, about the football contracts, transfer payments, and earnings from image rights and sponsorships, signed by Rooney with Proactive after he turned 17.

Mr Mill said: "You accept responsibility for the football documents, but you did not take the opportunity to explain to Mr Rooney (senior) or his son, what documents were being signed or what their effects would be?"

"No I did not," Mr Stretford replied.

"Absolutely extraordinary, what on earth do you think you were doing?"

'Not standard'

Mr Stretford said there were "countless negotiations" and not the time to go through every single clause in every document. Many football contracts were "standard" and he would simply, "take them on their merit", he added.

"Not standard to a 17-year-old boy and his father who has had nothing to do with football," Mr Mill replied. "I suggest to you this evidence gives you no credit whatsoever."

The PFA needs to do more to stop players from being sucked in by these fecking leeches.

Who hires the agent? I was under the impression Rooney hired Stretford to negotiate his contract and sponsorships but someone on here said it's the club that pay the agent.

The guy's a crook. How is he still Rooney's agent, he must be a bit stupid.

Reminds me of a publisher I once had dealings with - he went after one of his author clients with a crowbar. :D

The surprising thing is that Stretford is a Man Utd fan and is/was a ST holder.

Did anyone listen to Keys and Gray this morning? I didn't myself but he Keys was bullish in his certainty about Rooney last week so it would have been nice to hear that sneer leave his voice.

Agents will take a % of their clients earnings plus they often negotiate a cut of any transfer fee from the buying club - that is why it is often in an agent's interests to get a player to leave a club

He talks shit half of the time, reckons there was no transfer request from Rooney and Fergie has made it all up.

Apparently, he stuck to his guns...even though SAF's words yesterday contradict him (Keys, that is). It seems that Talksport is yet another media organisation Rooney and/or his people are whispering to in order to get better press during this face-off.

Some of Stretford's previous dealings with Wayne Rooney (BBC):

Rooney must know the type of character that Stretford is by now and can't be unaware of how he is viewed by those at the club, yet has stuck with him nonetheless.

Fifa don't really care about the standard of agents unfortunately, and it is a matter for them because the problem is a global one.

What's this I heard about Rooney getting booed at the parade?

When he initially got on the bus there was some boos and 'You Scouse bastard!' chants. It was drowned out by 'Rio!' chants.

Then there was some 'Rooney!' chanting.

Then there was some more booing.

Then some more 'Rooney!' chanting.

Yep. The message of the modern football-business seems to be: "if you pay us enough, you can ride the gravy train too."

I said the same a couple of seasons ago to a City fan who said that if Mansour left they'd be fine because they could sell all their players for hundreds of millions. How many people would be interested in Toure for say £25m, a 29 year old (at the time) on a long term £200k+ contract? Likewise half of their other players. It's fair enough saying "who can replace Rooney for £25m", but as I said earlier that assumes we'll pay his replacement the best part of £12+m per season. Someone like Bale would probably command around £150k per week, meaning he'd "save" £5m a season in wages alone.

It's why I thought his motivations must be financial. I really can't see the only 3 clubs who compete with us in terms of prestige (Real, Barcelona, Bayern) sanctioning that kind of investment, given the talent they already have available, likewise we won't sell him to strengthen Chelsea or City. People said the Martinez and Gotze transfers was huge, but again I'm guessing they are getting half of Rooney's salary, which justifies the initial outlay.

That leaves the likes of PSG, Anzhi, (apparently) Monaco etc. If he ends up at any of those clubs it'll highlight what a farce any "new challenge" would be.

I can only think that his agent believes a) these tactics will get him a new contract as they did last time (or a 2-3 year extention); or b) they have another club lined up to sign him. Given the lack of clubs I can see that'll be interested I can only assume the answer is a).

Just listening to it now, the arrogance of Keys is something else. Let's see we've got:

- Fergie has been ducking an interview with Keys and Gray for two years.
- Accused Fergie of being a liar.
- Because of how he ended a MOTD interview SAF is happily leaving Moyes with a mess.
- If not for Rooney threatening to go to City/increaisng his wage packet United would not have spent the money they have done since.
- SAF has never recovered from the disagreement with Rooney in 2010.
- Rooney is England's best player and has been fit when called upon.

What. The. Hell?

I know they get Talksport good ratings Mike Parry was more sensible when having one of his 'village idiot' moments.

I haven't faced watching this weekends MOTD yet what did Fergie say to them?

I'd suggest that SAF is 'ducking an interview' because he doesn't rate Keys as a professional, amongst other reasons. I hope I'm wrong in thinking that Rooney is using Talksport to get his POV across; bloody crap behaviour if I am right.

My thoughts exactly.

There have been virtually no stories from people known to have a good relationship with the Boss like Bob Cass. All the 'sources close to x' stories have come via journalists you know the United hierarchy would not be talking to. Indeed, Scholesy was clear in his interview with RedNev that Sir Alex didn't want it to come out that he was retiring the way it did. United haven't been briefing this out someone has decided to put everything into the public domain in order to try and put the management in a bad light.

Frankly, it would've been better for Rooney's people if they just came out and said Rooney fancies living in London and wants a change after 9 years at United. They are literally spinning themselves silly with the phony media war.

So first he leaked the news of his transfer request, then told talk sport that he's not asked for a transfer?

I doubt anything has been 'leaked' to TalkSport. They generate listeners and callers (revenue) by being controversial and saying whatever they need to anger the majority of the listening population enough to call in and vent. They then vet the callers to pick those with the most opposing views, to generate more anger.

The cycle is self-perpetuating once its going. Throw in a few chauvinistic adverts and witty comments and you have a gold mine.

Has Rooney denied he asked Sir Alex to leave? I've not seen that anywhere. I've not read that he submitted a written transfer request but then what idiot is gonna forfeit those juicy loyalty bonus payments by doing that?

Considering the journalists who reported the story of Rooney's transfer request I can't see how Sir Alex would have been their source. Sir Alex is old school he speaks frankly with very few journalists and all the sports journos know who they are and envy them. The journalists linked to the Rooney wants to leave stories are not known friends of the Boss. The names of those journos make me think Rooney's entourage leaked those stories to try to make out that Sir Alex is trying to force their guy out of the club against his will, giving Rooney a chance to play the victim. This is exactly what they did 3 years ago when they claimed Sir Alex was lying about Rooney's injury and that the relationship between player and manager had broken down.

Why don't you all just wait and see what happens instead of speculating about what each party is thinking and feeling and who leaked what? Seeing as you don't actually know shit?

One simply must find something to occupy ones time between Neighbours and Eastenders.

Whilst that is often the case [for instance one of their overnight presenters was laying into Fergie by peddling the myth about our withdrawal from the FA Cup] the Keys and Gray show doesn't typically take callers of any kind, instead the listener has to suffer through a mixture of Keys pontificating or forced laughter at banal anecdotes spanning three hours.

Hey, if it's good enough for respectable journalists, it's certainly good enough for some dandruff-covered twonk from Wales-under-Sea.

I can tell by Rooney's body language that he thinks Plech's gone bonkers.

Lol at Mediawatch....

Well, You Did Ask For Some Better Players, Wayne

October 2010: Wayne Rooney hands in a transfer request, citing Manchester United's apparent inability to buy top-class players. He said: "I met with David Gill [United chief executive] last week and he did not give me any of the assurances I was seeking about the future squad...I asked for assurances about the continued ability of the club to attract the top players in the world."

May 2013: Wayne Rooney hands in another transfer request, frustrated at his inability to get past the top-class players Manchester United have bought in the intervening years. "He is a little bit frustrated at being taken off once or twice in the last few weeks," says Sir Alex Ferguson.
