I just don't know where he'll go? We won't sell him to another PL club. No way. I just can't see him playing abroad too.

As the guy on MUTV said, I just can't imagine him playing anywhere else other than Everton and United, and Everton won't be able to afford his wages.

For what it's worth, I doubt he'll go to City. I've heard more than one of the journalists who cover united say that Rooney was a bit freaked out by the reaction to the last contract saga (especially the fans turning up at his house). I suspect that he'd sooner leave Manchester if he's changing clubs. I'd say Chelsea is the likely destination, though United will obviously prefer him to go to a foreign club. Not convinced Real will be interested so it's either Chelsea, PSG or Bayern imo.

Yes its a mistake but guess what, its his choice and if hes stupid enough to make it twice in three years its time for his stupidity to be someone else's problem

Neither do I. He's already the biggest Earner or joint, and surely he realises that he's not going to get paid anymore when if anything he has got worse.

Just wondering, but the last time he wanted to leave "for the club's lack of ambition"(bless his heart), who was our top earner then? Does anyone know?

Over Zlatan?

For the English audience? Absolutely.

For the european crowd it would be a close run thing, but I think Rooneys reputation and "brand" is far bigger than Zlatans.

Im not talking about talent or effectiveness on a football pitch, just how big a name their are.

We've lost better players, let him leave. He will inevitably bring down the togetherness in the dressing room.

I'd be happy to see him go, as long as we get top dollar for him. He has disgraced the club a few times too many.

- The Whores
- The Contract
- Being unfit, smoking and drinking at his holidays

What he is not allowed to party during his break from football? Oh shit what a disgrace that is to the club of Manchester United. The whores? He is not the only one. The only problem with him has been the contract. Like Neville said, all big players have big egos and he felt hard done by for being substituted in big games. He did not make a good decision with this latest transfer and I think we should sell him rather than keep an unhappy player.

There's a lot more to being mentally right than being tapped up. He's been through a turbulent time personally with his wife's sister dying. From what I've read he was close to her. Plus on the pitch it's been up and down. He's suddenly gone from being our main man to being dropped and subbed regularly. He'll have people in his ear telling him how unfair it is and how he should be the club's star player regardless of who we buy. It all takes its toll. Supporters want footballers to be immune from this stuff, but it doesn't work like that. I'm sure there have been dozens of United footballers who've behaved just as badly down through the years, except they're not Wayne Rooney, so we don't hear about it.

I'm not making excuses here, just pointing out that there's more to it than some people would have you believe. But the bottom line is that if he is to stay, no one but him can sort this.

Maybe he needs the summer to think about it, but he can't keep rocking the boat like this and getting away with it. If he stays he will probably get another pay rise which this time he doesn't deserve.

Seeing him play for Chelsea would be sickening, I really hope that he decides to go abroad.

He is a professional athlete and should be careful when he is on holiday. There will be plenty of time to binge when he has finished playing.

Not going to be as upset as I would have been if he had left back in 2010 but I hope we will buy a replacement for him. Lewandowski would be class although I reckon a deal to Bayern is done and dusted.

Seeing him being a knob and disgracing them on the other hand, would be very amusing.

I dont think he would even improve them that much anyway, and he certainly wouldnt be the main man which is want he obviously wants.

ESPECIALLY not with Mourinho there, he would be far from undroppable.

It's almost like Rooney has depression or bouts of it. I don't know, whatever is happening doesn't make sense.

Strange thing with Rooney, some times I think he has a big ego and thinks he's too good, other times it looks like he has feck all confidence.

Both good points. Interesting isn't it. When he is interviewed and you see him he certainly comes across as a shy retiring character and certainly not one to rock the boat, then behind the scenes you end up with this load of nonsense. Certainly comes over as he himself is very unstable emotionally or he is being led poorly. Potentially a combination of both. Either way I think it is particularly sad considering what we know Rooney is capable of and what else he could go on and achieve here for both himself and the club.

The issue we have is we look at this as fans of the club whilst Rooney has never been that still supporting Everton to this day. What he should be, however, is eternally grateful for what his employer has given him and a little bit of respect and dignity wouldn't go a miss especially in the way he handles himself and his business off the pitch.

When speculation started again a few months ago Sir Alex was quick to come out and suggest sorting out a new contract. So theres simply no need for him to ask to leave if he wants a payrise. He was already going to get it

He'll get more at PSG, for his name more than anything.

With the 75% tax on high earners in France they'd have to pay an astronomical amount to even match the wages he's getting here.

I don't think this one's (solely) about money or a new deal. That said, the bottom line is that if he was physically and mentally right he'd be the first name on the team sheet every single week, so it's down to him from here. He can either cut and run or face up and make himself our best player again.

That's the crux of the whole Rooney issue for me, and one that will never go away. Part of the issue with Rooney is like the Golden Generation all rolled into one man. He was never going to be as good as hoped. Yes he would be the first name on most team sheets if he was mentally and physically better, but he rarely has been so there is no indication he will be. Surely after all these years watching United under Fergie with people like Neville and Roy playing their hearts out we know that ability only counts for so much.

Wayne is not a natural athlete, and that is a big issue in today's game. That combined with the weight of expectation and lack of slack he has been given makes him the player he is.

Good enough to keep despite the lack of prolonged spells of top form. But also there's enough in that to see why he always has ants in his pants. He hasn't achieved on a personal what it was once predicted he would achieve, so it;s only natural that he might chase the possibility.

Could this not have been announced tomorrow? Seems pretty disrespectful and distasteful to have this news come out on such a momentous day for SAF.

SAF did the announcing.

Cheers Wayne, thanks for the memories. I just hope we get top dollar fr him!

Got booed when he picked up his medal but a few sang his name on the lap honour, I don't think many were bothered about him, today was about Fergie and Scholes.

At least if he does something stupid it won't be our problem. He couldn't drag Chelsea any lower than they are.

Oh good, we could be having another three months of idle speculation about Rooney...

I know Arsenal sold us RvP but I doubt we'd make the same mistake. Sell him to Chelsea and he'll lead them to the title and that would be sickening.

If they had all heard the confirmation from Sir Alex about the transfer request there would have been a lot of booing. He was lucky his boss didn't say something earlier.

He turned up unfit at the beginning of this season after having previously done the same for England only three months earlier at a tournament.

We aren't the same as Arsenal

No, but if Rooney only wants to stay in England, would the Glazers let us tell Wayne to see out his contract and let him move for free after two years, rather than pocketing the 25 million?

Lets look at the potential reasons to hand in a transfer request:

The club is showing a lack of ambition - Seeing as Utd are the best team in England and went toe to toe with Real this year this is not an argument.

He isn't getting enough playing time - Then train harder and fight for your place when you are given an opportunity if you have anything about you.

To get another new contract - Jog on then.

Whatever the reason I can't wait to see the back of him.

Well I don't want a repeat either.

I also don't want him to leave. But if I'm sure whatever happens will happen for the best. If he really does want to go, then that's up to him. United will continue to exist and move on, so whatever.

But I won't turn on him.

I can't say as confidently that I won't, all hinges on where he goes (if he does), and the manner in which he conducts himself in these negotiations regardless. I said the last time I'd always rather see him play for us rather than against us, but that he'd blown his chance to be mentioned in history along with the likes of Charlton and Giggs, which is still how I feel for now at least.

Whatever about who United would sell to, we'd be very naive to think Rooney hasn't already sounded out terms with other clubs. I suspect Rooney knows where he wants to go already. If it's a foreign team then he'll be gone with relatively little hassle. If he's decided he wants to go to Chelsea or (less likely) City, then it becomes a drawn out battle of will between all parties. I could see us selling to Chelsea (reluctantly) but not City.

To be fair the same was said About shevchenko and Torres, something about that club seems to destroy forwards
