For all of Rooney's issue with consistency of general play, there's still most likely an absolutely top draw front man still there. As the furthest man forward he'd probably score a comparable amount of goals to Van Persie.

If there is actually something to this we should be demanding a massive fee for him. More than what we paid for Van Persie and not much less - if any less at all - than what Falcao/Lewandowski go for (providing they leave).

It seemed to be a reaction to Rooney changing his Occupation from Manchester United to @Nike UKAthlete, when in fact someone corrected him in saying it was done about a month ago along with Cleverley.

If he has changed his name to Nike Athlete, why would he do that if he may be going to Bayern or Chelsea (Both Adidas)? Is Ronaldo a "Nike Athlete" because of his boots, or Adidas? Food for thought perhaps.

I don't think it's because of the UKAthlete thing. He mentioned it but his confidence that Rooney is off to Germany predates the change to WR's twitter page.

Those Chelsea fans who don't want him are idiots. He would be brilliant for Chelsea playing up top so yeah, I agree with them. Don't ever let it happen!

I had a very heated debate in the Newbies about Rooney around October last year with quite a posters (one of which was a mod, think it could have been R.N7, if he's a mod down there. Or maybe it was RK, I can't reall remember specific names!) and I was ridiculed from all angles. For some bizarre reason, the majority down there valued Rooney at upwards of £60 million and found it sacrilegious that I suggested the club would certainly consider selling him for a fee circa. £40 million.

Laughable.

I hope he's persuaded to stay again. He's still a brilliant player.

He is suppose to be mates with a couple of players but seriously doubt he will know were Rooney is off to, at times like this the only people in the know are directors, agents and the player in question.

Talk about pressure for Moyes though, his first major decision here is to decide what to do with Rooney. I do wonder what is best for the club myself.

Too many Rs on this forum! It wasn't me pal. £40m sounds reasonable.

Mostly true, but as we saw with the Fergie news this week, things slip out even with the most closely-guarded information

Nobody has officially said, from either side, that Rooney is off. He's been silent, but so have the club. It's pure conjecture at the moment, unless someone really does have some insider information, however no one is revealing a source.

In the past couple of weeks, Wayne Rooney has posted on his Facebook (it's a bit more active than his Twitter I find) about his pride of winning the title, about making his 400th appearance for United and other general United stuff. There's even a snap of him taking his son for a kickabout on the Old Trafford turf from this Monday. Didn't the club outright ban all United players from talking about United on their Twitters anyway, so he's seeimingly gotten around that by putting all United stuff on Facebook instead.

I just don't think pushing for a move, after everything he's said, makes any sense. I think it'd be harsh for the fans to immediately turn on him at the title celebrations, when he's not really done anything wrong.

If Roman was prepared to pay 50mil for Torres (a player considered by many to be past his best) we can get eleventy-billion quid for Mr Ambition.

:D

True for you, sir. I'm brutal with names at the best of times!

£40 million is even stretching it I reckon. He'll have no re-sale value, best years are arguably behind him, pace (whatever he had of it) is gone, fitness issues fairly regularly and appears to be motivated by money more than on-field matters these days. Of course that's the cynic in me talking now, but you have to play devil's advocate here.

There's no way any football club is paying upwards of £40 million for him. If they do, they are extremely desperate. It would be a typical PSG/City transfer, that.

I'd say to him, either stay put or you're going abroad. How dare he try to dictate where he will go. Unless of course Levy would take him in part exchange for Bale. If he went to Chelsea I would want Mata as part of the deal.

Agree - wouldn't want to sell to Chelsea unless Roman pays a more stupid price than he did for Torres

 It will be interesting to see the reaction of the fans if it hasn't been cleared up. I'm guessing either a very muted cheer when he lifts it or deafening boos.

If he scores on Sunday all this transfer talk will be forgotten and he will be cheered. Anyway, Sunday is about Fergie so I doubt people will be bothered about Rooney.

Agreed, Rooney at Chelsea would be a nightmare if he played for them as he did for us during 2010 (or even as he did last year). We'd be really stupid to sell him to them.

I hope he's persuaded to stay again. He's still a brilliant player.

Still don't understand why you wouldn't want to stay and finish club top scorer.

I can't help but feel this is driven by the media. feck me what a pack of ghoulish cnuts writing complete bollocks and the like.

Boggles my mind how anyone could want to live like that.

Those comments by the Chelsea fans are pretty much all correct, and have been true for some time.

Media opinion on a player always behaves like soldiers marching in step, and so far no-one's yet been willing to be the one to break step and forgo the idea that Rooney is still a world class player, especially as he's been a staple fixture as a media favourite for 10 years. Eventually it will happen though, and the press will march to a much different tune.

This is why he needs to be sold now and not a year from now when public opinion has caught up to the fact that he's no longer anywhere near as good as he was.

Needs to be sorted out ASAP.

Maybe a poor reaction to him from the fans on Sunday will have an effect on him in a good way?

But the last thing anyone wants is this dragging on all summer.

I personally think he's off to Madrid. After he signed the deal the last time, he was asked point blank about whether he was going to sign for City as the rumours suggested and he stated it was always going to be Madrid or Barcelona. Real Madrid also confirmed Higuain was leaving and it wouldn't surprise me if the already contacted Rooney's team and let their interest be known. They need to bring someone in and it wouldn't surprise me if Rooney's their choice.

I'd hate to see him go and I do think we'd miss him, but we shouldn't have to convince someone to stay at this club twice.

We would certainly miss him and it would be the worst start possible for Moyes. These wishing it to happen will regret it.

For me is is our best and most important player.

But if he is acting the cock a 2nd time, he will have to go. If not and he puts his head down he should announce he intends to finish his career at utd. Ths summer is certainly a crossroads, though.

Fergie will never let him go to Chelsea unless we are getting a mental deal

Do you live in opposite world? The press constantly, constantly slag him off. There's been a "is Rooney past it?" article in a major paper on average once every two months for the last six years.

Moyes isn't daft - he won't allow it either unless a mega fee (£40m+) is involved.

If he does go, hopefully it means we'll see more of Chicharito

Short of actually bringing Ronny back (or perhaps getting Bale) selling Rooney would be an absolute disaster for the club.

He's our best player and has been absolutely central to the greatest period of success in our history, his leaving would be bad enough if Fergie were still in charge, but in a transitional season with a new manager it'll all but guarantee we don't get anywhere near the title, unless we go out and buy a player of the very highest calibre to take his place in our attack. Which we all know we won't.

06/07 - Ronaldo
07/08 - Ronaldo
08/09 - The defence
10/11 - Berba and Chico
12/13 - RVP

They were the key and stand out players that made our success possible.

I'm not trying to shit on Rooney, don't get me wrong. He's a very good player on his day but to put it into perspective for you, we replaced Eric with Teddy Sheringham....Teddy fecking Sheringham!...Things turned out nicely then my friend ;)

If we could get £50m for him which we actually reinvested with I'd grab the money and run.
Realistically it'd be 40m tops. Probably closer to 30m.

Everything above 30m would be good for us. He didn't had one of the best seasons, will be almost 28 at the time of the signing and is requiring to leave. I don't expect that we'll get more than 30m from him. There was a time when we could have gotten probably 60m for him, but not now.

If he really wants to leave, I wouldn't be gutted that much though. Sign a great midfielder with those money aka Gundogan/Modric or perhaps Moutinho and play Kagawa in his position.

Anyway, I think that unlike Torres he will be a good signing for the club who signs him.
